Good evening, today's #gameoftheday goes to Star Wars: Demolition for the original PlayStation. Released on the PS1 and Dreamcast in 2000, the game is a vehicular combat game set in the Star Wars universe. The game is similar to the Vigilante 8 series, which is no coincidence as the game was developed by Luxoflux (the same people behing Vigilante 8) and it was jointly published by both LucasArts and Activision. While a game like this really doesn't need much of a story, but set around the events of Return of the Jedi, the Galactic Empire has outlawed podracing so Jabba the Hutt creates a new sport even more life threatening. There are a variety of characters to play as each with a unique ability, including such staple characters as Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian (in his Palace Guard disguise) and the introduces new characters who make their first and only appearance in the Star Wars series, like a pair of Rebel twin sisters piloting a Snowspeeder, an elerdly senile Imperial General controlling an AT-ST, and a rusted antique Battle Droid controlling the AAT tank from Episode 1. The game is unfortunately not good at all. The graphics look terrible, even for PS1 standards, kinda like 007 Racing. You'd think that when a console is five years into its life cycle, triple A developers would figure out a way to design a game on its platform that wouldn't make their games look like shit! The soundtrack is hilarious though, including awful techno remixes of your favorite Star Wars tunes that's in the so-bad-its-good category.
