I DID IT I FOUND SOME TIME TO FINISH THISSSS AAAAAAAA
At first I wanted to do something Carnival-like cause, you know, Veneto is mostly famous for the Venetian Carnival, but then I thought, why not going BACK in time, to the ancient Venetians, the Venetkens?? In particular I tried to represent the cult of Reitia, the most important deity in the Venetian pantheon. Their weapons are: a sword from the Bronze Age, a staff with an intricate decoration on top (maybe a snake? Idk I copied it from an art piece of the time, if it's a snake it could be connected to the healing powers of the goddess) and the tools they used to write.
Reitia is a very ancient Italian paleovenetic goddess, worshipped for a long time especially by the Adriatic Veneti and the Rhaetian people, the latter taking their name from their Primordial Mother.
She was given the epithet Potnia Theron (Lady or Mistress of Animals). She was connected to the worship of Nature, fertility, healing/health, and the afterlife, but also to commerce.
She was also the Goddess of Healing, the protector of childbirth, and the Goddess of the Threshold for the dead. In Roman times, her cult was associated with that of Goddess Minerva.
From the findings on the sanctuary of Mount Summano we know that she was depicted in late times sitting on a throne with snakes, with a young armed companion next to her. Another representation describes her with a veil on her head, surrounded by animals, and with a key in her hand that probably represents the Power to direct the lives of human beings and also the Key that opens the passage of the Afterlife.
The most important and representative symbol of the goddess is the “Key of Reitia” (shown in the pictures) about which very little is still known, as no sources have yet been found that can explain its meaning or what it represented for the Venetic priests and priestesses.
By observing its shape, some believe it clearly resembles a stylized caduceus, while others suggest it could be linked to human anatomy, but it definitely had a spiritual meaning, as it was a symbol used by the priests.
The symbol was found on a funerary stele in Este, and carved into an Aklon, a ritual stone used as a liminal marker.
Altough, the so-called “Key of Reitia” is actually not strictly a key but a metaphorical and sacred symbol, which carries the symbolism of the solar boat, an initiatory symbol of continuity between death and rebirth: the sun-symbol of Reitia, who was indeed a solar deity devoted to protecting the key transitional moments of human life (birth, youth initiation into civil or military life, marriage, childbirth, death)
So, about that "draw the first hunters in your culture" trend 👁️👁️ PART 2
Them as Reitia's priestesses OwO
I used statues and drawings of Reitia herself and some reconstructions about how Venetken women would dress. They wear a basic celtic-like outfit (since Venetkens were basically a mix of Celtic and Roman cultures), the golden disk on their forehead which represents the sun, many pretty necklaces, the torque around their necks since they're warriors, the typical belt made of some kind of metal like bronze and the veil on their head, maybe an "ancestor" of the Venetian zendale (????? Idk). Their weapons are a sword from the bronze age I saw in the Este museum, a sort of scepter with Reitia's key on top (completely invented by me btw) and the tools they used to write
