Platonic and romantic

Randomly thought of this, lokey need people to ask me to write stuff, if you have an idea for a venti fic I'll write anything at this point... I just need prompts...GN reader btw of not tell me WARNINGS?: Suggestive at most... mentions of death

Platonic:

Venti is a clingy person, not physically per sé, but clingy, he'll ask about your day and for details on things he really wants to know. Following you around just to hear your stories when you're busy.

Loves helping. If you ask for help with almost any task, he's more than happy to help. Will do his utmost to help in any way.

Will lightly tease, "I'll play you a song, but it'll cost you an apple." Type shit, more often than not it's, incredibly light teasing, or base level rage bait.

Laughs really loudly at really stupid remarks or stupid grammar errors you make. If you tell him you don't like it, he'll stop, but he really does find hilarious when people make really stupid grammar errors, like saying "Tiddled" rather than "Tickled"... very immature humor

Enjoys braiding your hair if it's long enough. If not, he likes to mess with small things, like fixing your shirt collar or flattening a flipped up sleeve. Or he causes them just to fix it. He wants to feel helpful.

Will link arms with you while walking. As long as he knows you're not someone who doesn't like being touched, he'll do small stuff like pat your shoulder and arms, but that's mostly it, he doesn't like pushing boundaries.

More than most often, pI will complain about wanting food. He never expects you to do anything about it. He just likes to complain to those he's comfortable with.

Asks to perform new songs to you to see what needs changing and how comfortable he is performing much harder songs he's practicing.

Small trinket gifts. Like a crow.

Hugs when asked, contrary to belief, he's not a big toucher or hug-er with most.

Lowkey clean freak. He'll hand you napkins or hand sanitizer when he thinks you need it. The sanitizer is unsented because he buys them in bulk and is the cheapest...

Likes showing you weirdly cool things, can't think of any particular example.

Romantic:

Cheek kisses are one of his favorites, both giving and receiving. Both quick and sweet, passing by? Cheek kiss. Mostly, random timed kisses are spontaneous.

More comfortable with touching, verbally asks what he's able to do rather than figuring it out.

Venti is very comunitve when it comes to boundaries and things that are allowed or can be reassessed later on.

He's a little spoon. He loves pressing his ear to your chest and hearing your heart beat. It's very comforting to know your real, his.

Have to drag him to bed from his desk when he's locked in on composing

Absolutely adores when you're sitting on a higher chair, and he can fit in between your legs and latch to your torso. Being able to gaze up at you is amazing for him. He loves worshiping his lover, even if it's silently.

It's probably the most suggestive of all, but he more than enjoys light to medium biting... mostly light bites to your shoulders and hands. But also, medium bites to the nape or clavicle area.

Holds your hand while walking. Don't like it because you have sweaty hands? No biggie, his hand will be on your lower back or in a place that he can show off you together. It's not that he's showing off to be an ass, but because he loves showing people that him, the green bard, got lucky.

He really sees himself as lucky and not like you've liked him for a long time. He DOES NOT chase people he likes. He is far too afraid for that, I mean, he's not scared of rejection, but how long it'll take for a perfect plan or moment, so he's so happy that he found you.

Probably a FREAK, but is on the down low about it. You probably would never know if you don't date him or if you never show interest in it. He most likely doesn't initiate most romantic things out of respect and a slight fear he'll mess up, and you'll leave him forever.

Gets nightmares of your death... and has nightmares when you two sleep apart. He'll never tell you, but he presses closer to you when he does have them. He'll also cry alone in the night because of them just carefully holding you while you sleep, knowing one day he'll hold you the same way, and you won't wake up like he hopes each night.

Deeply loves you, like it borders on obsession. If anything he's a very psychological yandere. He'll use small tactics just to keep you close, never anything false or rash, but things that keep you near and around so he can keep you safe.

— A Familiar Tune 

ft. music teacher!Venti x f!reader  summary. the students he teaches have never seen him cry. Until today.  warning. sad (?) angst but its hurt/comfort now playing: ‘So This is Love’

“Alright! Who’s next?” Venti lightly calls out to the class with a bright grin. “C’mon now, it’s just one performance, don’t be shy!” 

The well-known and loved music teacher of the university, Professor Venti has always had this cheery grin on his face. A bubbly teacher, whose humor always lightens up the atmosphere and brings smiles to his students’ faces.

Today is no different and with a light and airy tone, he encourages his students, greeting them with a smile and a few words to keep his students' spirits high as they perform an activity he gave them the other day, which is to perform a song with any accompaniment of their choice. It’s a small activity, something that is usually done as warm-ups to larger scale activities so the students don't mind it much. 

Then the music starts playing, and the smile on his face strains.

He knows that intro. He knows it well. 

And god, he can feel the tears coming in. 

No, he tells himself. Not in front of the students.

But as Venti listens to the student sing, tears begin to blur his vision. 

He inhales, trying to maintain his composure, but the feelings of longing and… shit, he’s crying. There are tears falling down his cheeks and as the lyrics echo in the room, he lowers his head as he inhales again. 

It's your song. 

“My love!” You giggled, gesturing for Venti to join you in the living room. Your song is playing from your phone, and with a fond smile, Venti steps over to you. A hand to your waist and another to guide you, you waltz around the room. Your laughs fill the man's chest with undeniable adoration and love and when you pull him in again for another dance, smile wide as he dips you, Venti decides to marry you.

Your favorite song, that whenever he is home, it's the song playing in your shared home. 

The song from your favorite movie.

The song he had danced you to before going to his knees and proposing. 

The song that you had sang, hummed and played so much because of how much you loved it.  The song that he had refused to listen to after your death. 

This is the first time in months he hears the song, and something in Venti shifts and suddenly, the song is over, and suddenly, everyone in his class is turning to look at their music teacher.

“Uhm. Sir?” The student who had just finished singing stands confused. The class is silent with surprise. 

Professor Venti– happy, always smiling, always eager to cheer everyone up in his class– now crying? 

Venti clears his throat, but his voice is shaky. “Sorry. I.. the song- it…” 

He inhales. “Class is over. Sorry guys.” He plasters a wide smile, but now, his class can see that its fake. “See you tomorrow, yeah? Don’t forget to practice for the upcoming recitals!”

His students glance at each other, confused and concerned, and he could tell that want to ask more– but the wavering of his smile and his glassy eyes are enough for them to back off.

Choruses of “Yes sir” and “I hope you feel better sir” echoes as they file out of the room, one by one, sneaking concerned glances at him.

The last student leaves with a soft click of the door, and Venti is left in the silence of the Classroom. 

It’s the suffocating, heavy kind of silence. 

His smile drops the moment the door clicked shut, shoulders sagging as he presses the heel of his palms against his eyes with a quiet, broken laugh.

“God,” he whispers shakily. “Pull yourself together.”

But the tears keep coming anyway.

The classroom is still filled with traces of the song. The lingering melody hums in his ears like a ghost, curling around his chest and squeezing painfully tight. He can almost hear your voice over it— soft and warm and teasing.

"You’re off beat again, love." Venti teasingly says. You only hit his chest, laughing loudly. "Am not!" "You absolutely are."

And then your laughter. Bright and sweet enough to make his chest ache.

Venti sinks into the chair behind his desk, elbows on his knees as he lowers his head. His wedding ring catches the afternoon light filtering through the windows.

He hasn’t taken it off. 

More like, he couldn’t take it off. Even though months has passed since then, and still, every morning, his hand would instinctively reach across the bed for you, only for him to still when he isn’t met by your sleeping frame. 

Every morning, he remembers. The emptiness that would follow as he gets up. The untouched side of the closet. The silence that would echo in the apartment. 

There’s no humming from the kitchen. 

No dancing around the living room instead of dinner because your favorite song started playing from your phone. 

There is no you. 

And the music of the once lively home filled with quarter notes and time measurements has stilled into a seemingly constant rest.

The song was never supposed to hurt this much. 

Well, to be fair, he hasn’t exaclty played that song ever since you died. 

A quiet knock sounds against the classroom door. Venti hurriedly wipes at his face, forcing himself upright. “Sorry, class is over—”

The words die in his throat when the door slowly creaks open, and a few of his students peek inside hesitantly.

“...Sir?”

It’s one of the girls from the front row clutching her notebook tightly to her chest. Behind her are two others, awkward and uncertain.

Venti quickly laughs, though it sounds strained. “Ah, didn’t I dismiss you all already?”

The students exchange glances.

“We just…” one starts carefully, “wanted to make sure you were okay.”

And his smile strains as his chest tightens at the words. Because they look genuinely worried. 

One student quietly steps forward and places a bottled water on his desk like he’s approaching a wounded animal.

“You don’t have to tell us anything,” another says softly. “But… you looked really sad.”

Venti stares at them for a moment before smiling weakly.

Kind kids. You would’ve adored them. His throat tightens.

“The song just reminded me of someone,” he admits quietly.

Their expressions soften instantly. “Oh.”

The room falls silent again, though this time it’s gentler, echoing with the air of understanding.

One of the students hesitates before speaking. “Someone important?”

Venti looks down at the ring on his finger, and he whispers, “Yeah. Someone important.”  His voice is not like his usual cheer and bright energy. Something quieter. 

The students all followed his gaze, and collectively deflate at the realization. They all knew their professor was married. Just… not the exact details. It’s not like Venti was vocal about it either.

They’ve seen the framed picture on his desk before. The one Venti always smiles at whenever he thinks nobody notices. A picture of you laughing while holding onto his arm.

“Oh…” the student murmurs again, quieter this time.

Venti notices the realization on their faces and laughs weakly at the look on their faces. “Hey now. Don’t look at me like that.” He inhales, and looks at the picture on his desk, voice softer than what the students are used to. “She loved that song, you know? Played it almost every day.”

A fondness slips into his expression then. Painfully tender. “She’d drag me into the living room just to dance with her.” Despite everything, the memory makes him smile.

And for a fleeting second, his students see it. Not Professor Venti. Not the endlessly cheerful teacher.

Just a husband hopelessly in love with someone he lost.

One student sniffles, lips curled into a sad frown. Another looks seconds away from crying themselves. Then quietly, carefully, the same girl from earlier asks, “Would… would you like us to stay with you for a bit, sir?”

Venti blinks. The concern in their eyes is so sincere that his chest hurts.

You always told him music connected people in strange ways. Maybe you were right.

His smile this time is small. Real. “I’d like that,” he says softly.

So the students stay. Talking to Venti quietly about things that happened in their previous classes. Minor things. Small events. But it settled quietly in his chest, quiet conversation filling the once-heavy room as the sun slowly dips beyond the windows. 

And for the first time in months, when the melody of So This is Love lingers in Venti’s mind— it doesn’t hurt as much.

"Hey, how many times have we looped time now?"

"Hmm... This is the 10,039th loop…"

"That much, huh…?"

"Yes."

"How much more do you think we'll need?"

"Possibly a few thousand more, but hopefully this is the last."

"No, this has to be the last."

"Barbatos, if this attempt fails yet again, please take care of things for me."

"Alright. You can rest now. I'll take care of things."

"Ah! Y/N! We meet again"

"I'm sorry, do I know you?"

"Ah—I—I mean, it's fair if you don't"

"After all, the last time we met was way back when we were kids, remember?" He sheepishly says, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Ah, I see…Oh! Could you perhaps be...Lar...Larka...? Yeah, Larka.." you pretended to remember. If you were being honest, you couldn't remember this man or anyone from your past.

All your memories from when you were aged 12 and below were eerily blank.

You wondered if you'd suffer from a head injury, but apparently you hadn't. It felt weird at first.

Like you just woke up from a long slumber. But...ah, how rude.

You've accidentally been staring at the lad while lost in your thoughts.

That was how you "first" met the young lad named "Venti."

He had beautiful turquoise eyes that seemed to hold the winds within, beautiful double-braided hair positioned on each side of his head, a voice that sounded as if it could grasp your heart warmly, and a touch that brought a sense of warmth, comfort, and familiarity.

He was an anomaly to you.

Suddenly appearing in your otherwise bleak life, brightening your world, and filling it with the brightest and most pleasant colors.

Time seemed to pass by slowly, like a glacier. Seemingly frozen in time but moving.

And like glaciers, your life changes, albeit sometimes imperceptibly.

You don't know when it began, but you now often find yourself recollecting memories and experiences that you' swear you've never experienced before.

You felt like you were delusional. Crazy even.

But, if there was one thing you've noticed with these new memories resurfacing, it's that they always seem to predict the future. Like a prophetic dream.

So you've labeled it as that. A power to predict the future. A Prophecy.

Things had been going well. So well, even. And maybe that's why you're in a terrible situation right now. As a payment for all your fortune.

You were trapped in a cave with monsters pouring out endlessly from a hidden domain inside the cave.

How long have you been fighting?

You couldn't count the hours anymore. It felt like hundreds of years had passed already.

Picking up your sword once more, you ready yourself, clinging onto a sliver of hope that maybe, maybe someone would come to your rescue soon.

Instead, you felt a calm, gentle breeze.

Opening your eyes, you see what seemed to be the gentle breeze brutally slicing the monsters to pieces. Like a gale.

'I did it…I survived…' The thought of being saved after long, brutal hours of nonstop fighting hit your body with a wave of exhaustion. Unable to keep yourself up any longer, you collapse on the ground

it’s not like the anemo archon really knows his way around love despite having lived for thousands of years. for him, it was as simple as the spark between the two of you had faded. he had grown apathetic towards you, even emotionless at times. it wouldn’t take a genius to realize what was going on. the love that once resided in his eyes when he looked at you was replaced with a look of pain. he didn’t know how to leave a relationship, but he doesn’t want to hurt you more than this drawn-out and dead romance already has. he’d find himself sipping on some wine, reminiscing the time before the love had faded. he misses those days, but he couldn’t force himself to fall for you again.

he swore to protect you, but his devotion only weighed more heavily on his psyche as time went by. what was once pure love and passion became hurt. it stung to meet your eye, even more so when you cleaned and bandaged the wounds he may have sustained in battle. he told himself it was to protect you from getting hurt, forcing himself to shut down his emotions and subsequently kill his love for you with his bare hands. playful banter was replaced with arguments in which so many hurtful things were hurled at each other. sometimes he really did look at you with pure hate in his eyes, regarding you as nothing more than a nuisance and hinderance to his job of protecting the people of liyue.

the various things he had written for you would gather dust in his room, having gone to waste as his whirlwind romance ended silently. he realized he no longer loved you when you kissed him and he felt nothing. his heart had once fluttered whenever he was near you, but those butterflies in his stomach had simply fluttered away. he’d find himself wondering if it was love at all, choosing to categorize it as a temporary infatuation to justify his growing apathy towards you. he’s quite literally free as the wind, so it wouldn’t take much to simply leave. he’s not going to force himself to be with you when he feels nothing. the love had simply faded with no rhyme or reason.

he’d spend more time at work when he realizes he’s fallen out of love. the excuse for avoiding you is that he’s just busy with work, when in reality he’s often just pacing around his office, figuring ways to break up with you painlessly. whenever he’d say he loves you, it was strained and forced, obvious that he didn’t mean it. he had loved you at one point, but his forcing himself to still be affectionate despite having fallen out of love with you is simply exhausting. it’s all he could do to avoid you and the way you hadn’t seemed to stop loving him. maybe he’d start seeing other people behind your back and fall for someone else the same way he had with you.

scaramouche's head adorned by his crown of violet hair lays on their lap, his dark locks being gently combed by their nimble fingers. he hummed and closed his eyes to urge them to continue.

"if I die hypothetically--"

"no."

"babe, i haven't finished yet."

"no."

"no, like seriously," they said with a chuckle. scaramouche's eyes are now already wide open, glaring at them with obvious hate for the topic. yet the sharpness of his gaze is a sharp contrast to the way he currently holds their hand: soft yet firm, as if even the reaper is not allowed to take them from him. "if I die hypothetically what will you do?"

"no."

"what do you mean no?"

"no…" another horrified murmur escaped his lips as he take in the sight before him. he can not even hear anything except for the sound of panic and cries to call the ambulance. "no, no, no…"

scara, felt himself shut the world, as the very person that stabilize him to the ground is in front of him… immobile. they sleep on the pavement of the road as a thick, warm red blankets their body. their eyes didn't even met his. it's inanimate, gone… just like as how the rest of the words that the cunning boy once knew became replaced by one word that fully express his grief. all that was left for him was to say, "no…" in pure guilt, in agony.

no, no, no, no… he screams and tear himself in his head as he blame his stupid self for everything. his hands found its way on his dark hair as he cries in pure pain. no, please, no… no… he bemoans, tears continuously falling from his eyes, the same thing he despised yet he now hated even more. no, no, no… what if he just stayed with them instead? what if he didn't stepped away for a moment and bought ice creams for the two of them? then maybe he'll still be holding a warm hand and not a cold and bloody one. no. oh no… no, no…please no. if only he was with them… if only he was there when someone accidentally pushed them… if only the car didn't hit them… "no…no…"

as scaramouche, the ever prideful, kneels on the harsh pavement with both of his knees… as the red started to seep into his entirety, he remembered the words they hypothetically asked that day. in which he answered 'no', repeatedly, it's a 'no'.

how ironic that when the hypothetical question became a reality and his only response truly became… 'no'.

a sharp hiss escaped xiao's throat as soon as he heard those words slip past their lips. the mere thought is blasphemy for him, an unimaginable imagine that he'd rather not have. and that's why he can not blame his eyes for narrowing in alertness and unsettlement as he waited for them to continue.

"what will you do?"

the edge to his gaze didn't lessen nor dull. solid amber remains cold, rigid, as the thought freeze each blood cell in his body and cold fear gripped his being. his gaze remained hard on them, unreadable of the muddled thoughts that run in a frenzy in xiao's head.

"i…" he started, trying to makes his voice softer. he racked his mind to find the right words to give them but in the end, what his tongue presented to them was his honest, straightforward answer. "i will never let that happen." he stated, full of conviction, more to himself than them. it is a vow that he etched to the very fiber of his heart's muscle and there it'll stay 'til his heart beats. "just call my name if you're in danger, call my name whenever you need me… i'll always answer your call."

a static noise suddenly filled his ears. it blurred his memory and drowned his reminiscing.

twenty missed calls and one that he actually received. the first twenty are from them, the last call was from a hospital. all that registered to xiao alatus' muddled brain are a few words from the call: heavy injuries, we did our best, and… their name.

he promised them immediate answers. he swore to them an instant response. he vowed to them his presence with their every beckon and call. he made an oath, to be there whenever they need, to be by their side whenever they were in danger… to answer whenever they called.

and the one time xiao alatus didn't answered… the one time he failed to check his phone… the one and first time he dismissively said that everything was fine… was the last time they'll call.

ah, xiao is too stupid. a fool. a whole fucking circus! and the weight of the joke fell heavy on his shoulder, made him drop on the morgue's floor, and laughed as he sing the hymn of bereavement. stupid! how can he easily make a vow and eat his own words? how can he swear to protect them and be nowhere near when they indeed need him? how can he not take their call…? when now he realized how every call of theirs matters…that each time they call him, his name, is the number of times that he actually lives.

how can he let it happen?

the one call xiao failed to answer… is the one he should have.

"hypothetically,"

they started as venti serenade them with his lyre. his ears strain to hear the melody of their voice above his strumming of musical instrument and the lyrics that he sings with pure affection. he listens intently to their next words, just as how he listen to the rhythm of the wind.

"what will you do if I die?"

it made the harmony pause. the orchestra experienced a hiccup in their synchrony as the silence became its new conductor. venti's fingers hovered over the strings of his instrument, his gaze now fully trained on them as a mixture of horror, shock, and fear, play like the wind in his green eyes.

"windblume, what made you say that? are you in any sort of danger?" the bard asked in evident distress and their dismissive shrug did nothing to soothe his worries. it terrified him. yet when they urged him to answer, venti sighed in surrender. his mouth that sings the most beautiful and sweetest verses voiced his mind. it made his tongue, expert with the taste of wine yet is never a liar, let a devoted oath fall from the archon’s lips. "if you die… i'll sleep… and choose to never wake up."

"venti!"

"but that won't ever happen, windblume. as long as i am one with the wind, you are cherished, loved, and protected." he vowed, a tone of sincerity in the bard's beautiful voice that made its sweetest song when he swore to them. "there's no place that the wind doesn't reach."

oh, but there is a place where the wind can't reach.

Venti cooed, his lax feature’s sharpening into a grimacing smile as he noticed his darling chipping at the chain which encased their ankle.

“ The only way to the surface is to swim through this lagoon and I don’t think you have the lung capacity for that”

His head was peeking out from the watery surface of the underground lagoon. And he swam fluidly towards the spot where he held you captive surrounded by a shimmery circle of his blue iridescent scales.

“We had a deal… And this wasn’t part of it. I didn’t sign up to be your damn cave decoration”

You spat, a look of scorn apparent as you couldn’t help but berate yourself for being so dumb as to break monster hunter rule 101: To never trust the words of a siren, lest they drag your soul to depths of hell. But you were desperate for the money since you had a sick friend to take care of.

“Awe sweetheart don’t demean yourself like that. You’re no decoration but my lovely mate after all”

The siren purred as he emerged fully from the body of water to cast a wet hand against your cheek. Admiring you in your entirety, his touch that was gentle soon became all consuming after hearing your adamant rejection.

“What’re you talking about? I never agreed to become your mate. Just let me go home.”

You retorted as you continued to make work of the chain. While actively shying away from his slimy touch. The stark scent of sea salt made you nauseous.

“Don’t say that. You are my mate sweetie. Weren’t you the one to say that you wanted my scales to begin with?”

Venti tried to rationalize with a small chuckle as he started to apply pressure when he cupped both your cheeks. Sharp nails dug into your damp skin while he directed your gaze to his crazed ones.

“So why are you trying so hard to deny it?”

He asked, his voice was hollow as he stared deeply into your eyes with wide blown slits. You had to have known what accepting his scales would entail. So why couldn’t you understand that you guys were meant to be? He gave you his scales did he not? So why, were you trying so hard to constantly reject his advances.

You didn’t need to go back to the surface. Not after all the struggles you’ve told him about with your stay up there. What kind of lover would he be if he were to allow his precious human to be exposed to the dangers beyond his reach.

“Oh I know what’s holding you back! It’s that friend of yours isn’t? What’s his name, Ah it’s şçæřämœćħè right?”

Venti begrudgingly sounded out his name in clear distaste and didn’t know whether to laugh or sneer from how you immediately perked up at the mere mention of another man’s name. He couldn’t help but feel an envious bout of jealousy boiling deep within his gut. Well at least he knew what his priority should be, if the only thing tethering you to the surface was your friend then perhaps he could remedy that.

“Well rest assured your pretty little head darling! I’ll make sure to take extra care of him so sit tight I’ll have to make some trips”

In the end sure he did twist his words a little when he struck a deal with you, who seemed to be down on their luck. Promising you his scales in exchange for your prized company. Since he’s always been enamored watching your daily pathetic attempts at capturing a siren.

But he did uphold his end of the bargain did he not? He made sure to pluck out his scales and pile them around you enshrouding you in their glimmering shine. So it’s only fair that you start acting like a proper mate for him since he’ll be expecting a cave full of his guppies in the future.
