WHERE: verity’s apartment, after the engagement party WHO: @veritydedominicis & nate.
The night had numbed significantly at the edges, Nate’s forehead pressed against the cool glass of the back window of the Uber he found himself in. The lights of downtown were blurs of whites and yellows and greens and reds, whipping by his window. He watched them until it made him dizzy and he had to look down at his hands. When the car pulled to a stop, he looked up, momentarily confused by the apartment building that greeted him. He hadn’t remembered telling the Uber driver to take him here-- hadn’t even remembered calling the Uber driver if he was being honest-- but a sense of renewed purpose flooded through him, propelled him forward, found him staggering to her door. He’d always know his way to her, even black out drunk-- and even black out drunk, he hated the fact.
He was distracted momentarily by the numbers on her door, tracing the numbers with his fingers, before he slapped his palm against the wood. Once, twice, three times. “Verity!” he called from the other side of the door, leaning his forehead against the door frame. “Why do we do this? I don’t wanna do this. Juss-- open the door? Please open the door.”
