Finn was slowly starting to realize that life, real life, was filled with far too many awkward social situations for him to handle. How did people just know how to act without making fools of themselves? He’d thought that he had a solid handle on things, but now, at a social gathering celebrating a recent Resistance victory, he found himself woefully unprepared. Poe had been introducing him to music, but what the small quartet was playing was much slower, and couples were gathered in the center of the room, just turning around in circles. He’d never seen anything like it before - they seemed to be having a good time (he’d blushed watching them, feeling as though he was interrupting a private moment) but why would they enjoy twirling and hugging so much? It simply didn’t make sense. He said as much to Poe, where they were watching the strange ritual from a table in the corner. “So do they just go in circles the whole time, or…?”
Poe’s next words surprised him. “I, uh. Sure. I guess trying wouldn’t hurt.” He rose to his feet, wiping his suddenly sweating palms on his pants as he followed Poe to the dance floor. He studied another couple for a moment before squaring up to Poe, resisting the urge to vocally reassure himself. You can do this. It’s just spinning. He thought, placing one hand on Poe’s shoulder, the other hovering awkwardly in a mimicked position. “Like this?”
