You know, it's real nice that we got help to pay the vet bills and help my kid keep his cat safe and healthy but wow.
It is obvious we do not matter at all.

I know it’s hard for everyone but please, keep sharing, anything ANYTHING helps. We’ve been getting a bit of food and paying little by little what we owe at the corner store but the upcoming card payment is $190 and my meds are $130 and then let’s not forget my healthcare renewal. I also bring bad news, we’re starting with water shortages just like last year, we’ve gone from having 4 days of water a week to 1-2 if we’re lucky. Our only toilet is busted and there are 9 people here who use it. My kid still needs attention for a UTI he’s had for a couple of months now. And my partner has 3 ingrown nails and 2 big cuts on his feet he’s kept unattended for weeks. I’d hate to up the goal but we need every help we can get!!

My oldest fandom friend Kristina (not active on tumblr these days but still has a blog over at @myfairprouvaire) has been having a really rough time of it, culminating last autumn in losing her cat Squish, who had taken care of her for eleven years through some very difficult times, in traumatic circumstances. She wasn't looking for a new cat, but a fluffy little kitten adopted her very firmly, and picked up looking after her right where Squish left off. He is a drapey, affectionate cuddlebug, sleeps on her and makes sure she's never lonely, and is very much earning the name of Damiano, which I jokingly suggested in the first few days on hearing about how very daft and affectionate he is. :D
Unfortunately, Damiano has developed some problems with his eyes, and although FIV and leukaemia have already been ruled out, he needs more tests, and it's going to be expensive. Kristina could do with some financial support to try and find out what's wrong and then get it treated. He's already done so much for her and he's only a baby - and he deserves to be healthy and happy and comfortable.

He had surgery today for an undescended testicle and to remove his other one which was bothering him and totted up and additional £400+ to his bill. Insurance won't cover it due to it being classed as a neutering operation.

This is my dear cat Mr Mister. He's a silly, snuggly little guy whose also a bit of a criminal here and there.
A little while ago, his eye started to go cloudy, and in the past few days, it has gotten extremely bad, to the point its clear he can no longer see out of it. He's frightened and hiding, and I need to get him to the vet asap.
But I am disabled, unable to work, and my funds are extremely low, I am not going to be able to afford this vet bill.
If anyone, anyone out there is able to help, even a little, I'd be so thankful, I dont know what I could give in return, other than my thanks and maybe cute photos of the boy when he is, hopefully, well.

Hey y'all! This isn't something I would typically do but... vet bills are expensive as fuck, and my kitten, Misha, has managed to hurt her eye. She has a vet appt first thing in the morning, and it's bad timing because she is not insured, although I'd just received my quote in the mail to take out a policy for her.
This is an unexpected and not accounted for expense, which given the fact my partner has been sick and unable to work for weeks, is likely to leave us in a tricky situation (we also have ongoing treatment for my big cat, O'Neill, who has an appt on Friday for follow-up treatment. He is not insured due to a benign mass on his lungs, which made pneumonia worse a few years ago, hospitalising him for days, and as such the insurance premiums for him are beyond extortionate).

I want to discuss more solutions with my vet but I'm scared I might get charged $70 each time I contact them (I've never had an on-going issue like this before).
To clarify, I don't plan on bringing my cat in for a full inspection or anything, I want to ask her opinion on some methods to address the issue. I am aware that it still takes up time and would be happy to pay some amount but for a question that might take a 5-10 'that's a good idea' or 'that's a bad idea' I don't really want to pay full consult prices every time...
I’m not a lawyer. I don’t bill people out in 6 minute increments of my time.
If I’ve seen the patient recently enough to be relevant (as long as 6 months for some chronic conditions) and it’s the same problem we’re working on then I don’t charge anything for a phone call or email. I honestly don’t think I could even if I wanted to.
Sometimes even short, 5 minute checks where it’s more of a progress update and everything is going according to plan don’t get charged either, there’s just a pathology or medication charge as appropriate. We undercharge a lot in this industry.
This is particularly the case for animals on long term medication - I want to know what the heart patient’s sleeping respiratory rate is regularly, how much that diabetic is drinking and what they weigh, how itchy is the allergic dog, how comfortable is the arthritis patient and so on - so these brief phone call ‘patient updates’ are not charged. I need that information to do my job well.
As a general rule we’ll charge another consult fee if there’s a new problem (it has a new, second condition) or a revisit fee (which is a percentage cheaper than the initial consult fee) every 6 to 12 months depending on what we need to do.
For very complex ideas, sometimes an email is more useful as details can get lost in phone conversations and that way everything is written down, but we don’t charge for emails either unless we’re being asked to write up some official court document.
This beautiful boy is my cat, Mikey. Technically he belongs to my best friend and housemate, but he’s my baby too regardless. He is mostly happy and healthy but is on medication for spondylosis in his back and he also has some anxiety issues due to his previous homes. These have improved enormously thanks to my friend’s love and patience with him, and he is now a very happy, spoilt and loving boy.
He was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism after he rapidly lost weight and was constantly hungry (like, more than his usual greedy self). He’s now on medication for that and has balanced out well. However, this medication is very expensive and only controls the condition, while there is an alternative treatment that will actually cure him. It involves him going into a specialist vet centre where they target the thyroid with radioactive iodine. It has a huge success rate, so even though it’s expensive and likely to be stressful for him in the short term, my friend has weighed up the pros and cons and opted to go for it. Mikey is still relatively young and should have plenty of healthy years after this.
The problem, of course, is money. The treatment is going ahead no matter what, because Mikey is our family. My friend plans to pay for it from her savings. However. I am just as concerned about her as I am about Mikey. Amy is disabled with severe CFS and cannot work. She’s had to give up even the writing and editing work she used to do from home because it’s too exhausting for her. She receives some benefits, but the one she really needs has been denied and she is currently in the horribly stressful process of appealing the DWP’s decision to deem her fit for work. (For those unfamiliar with the UK government’s treatment of disabled people, go look it up. It’s a real-life horror story. People are dying because they can’t afford to live.) She has already spent well over £450 in just a few weeks, taking Mikey for his blood tests and paying for his medications. Usually she can afford his care but I’m afraid these additional bills will cripple her finances.
As for me, I have a job but I work limited hours and am trying to save whatever I can for my move to Canada. I have very little in savings as it is, although I will do what I can to help pay for this treatment.
So I am asking for help from anyone willing to support us, even a little. He goes away for the treatment next week and it costs £1,800. I will accept donations to my Paypal: [email protected].
