For @princess-geek ))
You have me. And you will always be my beloved. Always.
The wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha took place on 10 February 1840 at Chapel Royal, St. James's Palace, in London.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s engagement, October 15th 1839.
In her journal, she wrote in her own words, what happened: ‘At about ½ p.12 I sent for Albert; he came to the Closet where I was alone, and after a few minutes, I said to him, that I thought he must be aware why I wished him to come here, – and that it would make me too happy if he would consent to what I wished (to marry me)’. (ed. Viscount Esher, The Girlhood of Queen Victoria, Vol 1, 268; Longford, 143).
What followed was a mutual embrace, with Prince Albert murmuring in German that it would make him so glad ‘das Leben mit dir zu zubringen’ [to spend his life with her].
