🔥 female characters in asoiaf?

Okay, I was writing up a lengthy response with actually pretty lukewarm takes because the most shocking thing I could muster about female characters was stuff like “I’m not very invested in her story” or “idk she seems kinda fake but also that’s the reason she’s interesting” and then it dawned on me that my one scorching hot take is that I love Brienne and Cersei pretty much equally (ok, Brienne I love more, but Cersei is like. Top 4) and no measure of fandom controversy and ship wars shenanigans will take the enjoyment these characters give me away from me.

So Asha, this gal in this very male-dominated culture, grows up feeling awkward about her looks, has this Tristifer guy puppy dogging after her even though she’s just not that into him, and then goes to get it on with her boyfriend who willingly engages in her sexual fantasies and also serves under her? And he backs her up at the Kingsmoot and just seems to have no problem with her strong personality or her complexities and believes in her competence? I mean, Asha’s fantasies are not my fantasies but outside of that WHAT IS NOT TO LIKE, GENTLEFANS?

(ETA: Also with him not being highborn enough you get a dash of that romantic pining stuff too. This ship, it floats.)

Same. I really enjoy crackships treated seriously, and I actually liked reading canon book fanfiction about those two a lonnnnnnngg time ago. But now, it’s just a case SI x most desirable man to you and it’s 99.9% show-based so it’s a big no. Also, Jonsa fans are always creating wank with their non existent reading comprehension skills. They also tend to be sexist and quite xenophobic, if not racist, so that’s not helping…

I doubt it’s most of them, I think most of any fanbase is probably just going about doing their own thing, but yes I have seen some of the arguments you’re referring to and like

it just underscores for me how the show did us all so dirty because if it’s even concievable at this point that the nativism argument floats, you have gone down the exact opposite of the right road. The fact that those fights can even be had is (was) such a bad sign. That’s part of why the way the show ended Dany’s story is so awful, it plays into this “Foreign woman is bringing us doom” shit.

But yeah, another day, lol. I actually have to still finish ADWD ... >.>

TY friends!! It was a little spendy and I had to bide my time and save, but just for the record, for USAnians you can order these from www.themurphydoor.com. Shipping is a sumbitch, but every so often they have free-shipping specials (4th of July, Memorial Day ...?). You can also buy these at The Home Depot, if that’s a store you still care to patronize ...

Not sure if there are good (affordable) options outside of the USA. There are DIY videos and pages out there but they assume some carpentry skills and tools, which I certainly did not have ...

We took our time installing this, the first week after it came we just watched videos about removing and installing doors. Then we took one weekend to take the door trim off, another weekend to take the jamb out, then we found out that the opening in our wall was too short by an inch, then finally yesterday we rented a saw, shortened the bookcase door jamb, nailed it in, and got the door itself in the door jamb. Next weekend we’ll put the new trim on so it’ll look more finished ... unless we decide to paint it first. I’d rather stain it than paint it because it’s more handsome, but our baseboards are painted this beige grey color that I find very bland, so I may have some persuading to do. I’d rather mismatch for now and replace the baseboards when I’m richer. Anyway, you can probably take the old door out put the new one in all in one day, we were just nervous and then we ran into the height issue, and I had homework.

For renters, you’d probably need a really nice landlord to get them to let you do this, but OTOH, it seems like a really cool feature that would up the property value? But what do I know. Removing a door definitely wasn’t as scary as I feared though.
