Aight we’re doing it: The Darkest Minds Pirate AU
For the sake of my sanity let’s pretend that most things are similar to the series (the infection, the powers, the camps, the shitty government, etc.)
HOWEVER!! Instead of escaping cross country, it’s everyone living out at sea and on island nations
Kinda just imagine the US as being a series of islands and large land forms
Ruby comes from a quiet seaside town when the Psi infection sweeps the nation, wiping out most of the kids
Our lovely Ruby ends up wiping her parents memories and is sailed to Thurmond, an absolute behemoth of a man made island, originally created to house criminals, but the government thought this was a more pressing matter
Cate escapes with Ruby and M (can’t even say his name, yuck) via rowboat and a whole lot of determination
Ruby does not stick around long and hits the ground running first chance she gets, AKA them docking at a nearby island where she runs into, you guessed it, Zu
Zu runs, Ruby runs after her
All else happens the same, and they hit the road with an unknowing Liam and Chubs
