Like a cat, Dex liked having the underside of his jaw scratched. Not that he would ever admit that out loud.
It happened by accident in a safehouse somewhere outside Amsterdam, the two of you trapped inside while Charles arranged new passports. The place was barely furnished, just one narrow bed (not that either you or Dex minded. He was quite clingy, after all), a television that only played three local channels, and a sofa so small that Dex’s knees nearly touched the coffee table when he sat down.
At this point, he had been restless for hours.
You could always tell when his senses started becoming sensory problems. Pipes knocking inside the walls bothered him, footsteps in the apartment above you agitated him. The refrigerator clicking on made his shoulders tighten beneath his shirt.
Dex sat on the bed with his elbows braced against his knees, staring at the curtained window with a blank stare.
“The building’s secure,” you reminded him, because the last time someone broke into your apartment to try to kill you, Dex stayed up all night for the next three days with a gun in his hand while you slept (or at least tried to).
He frowned, tapping his foot restlessly on the wooden floor. “The bathroom window doesn’t latch properly.”
“You wedged a chair beneath it,” you climbed onto his lap, peppering gentle kisses on his collarbone.
“Someone could still—”
You curled two fingers beneath his chin. You had only meant to tilt his face towards you, to properly make him look at you instead of the window, but your nails dragged lightly against the skin beneath his jaw, and his shoulders dropped by half an inch.
You stared at him with a sly smile.
Because you were curious and because he looked unfairly adorable when confused, you did it again. Your fingertips travelled from the point of his chin towards his throat, scratching gently through the faint evening stubble there.
His eyes fluttered.
You couldn’t help the tiny giggle that escaped your lips.
Dex’s eyes opened immediately. “What?”
“You like that.”
“I don’t.”
You scratched beneath his chin again, and his head tipped back before he could stop it.
The movement was almost imperceptible, but you caught it; you had spent enough time loving him to notice the tiny betrayals of his own body.
A smile spread across your face. “You’re like a cat.”
Dex narrowed his eyes at you (not helping his case), but he didn’t move away. In fact, when your fingers paused, his chin followed them slightly.
You shifted closer, and this time you used all four fingers, lightly scratching while your thumb rested against the scar on his cheek.
Dex exhaled through his nose and leaned into your hand.
It made sense once you thought about it. He spent every waking moment sorting through too much information, his mind cataloguing every sound, every movement, every possible threat. The kind, repetitive drag of your nails gave him a singular comfort to concentrate on.
His knees have since stopped tapping the floor, and Dex’s hands settled around your hips automatically, holding you there while you continued scratching as his eyes closed again, bearing witness the frankly adorable collapse of Benjamin Poindexter.
His grip remained firm, but it was no longer vigilant. He was simply anchoring himself.
“You’re melting,” you murmured.
“No,” he insisted. “I’m watching the window.”
“Your eyes are closed.”
“I can still hear it.”
You smiled and scratched a little closer to the hinge of his jaw.
Dex made a tiny sound, but not a purr, no matter how much you wanted to call it one. It was a vibration in his throat, an involuntary noise of approval that made his eyes snap open in surprise.
You bit the inside of your cheek.
You laughed, and Dex tried to glare at you, but you were still touching him, so the effect was ruined by the way his head remained tilted obediently into your hand.
Eventually, when the footsteps upstairs stopped bothering him, he pulled you into bed, throwing you on the mattress and clambering over you, putting his ears to your stomach. A car door slammed outside, but Dex only pulled you closer.
This time, you scratched gently through the short hair at the base of his skull before returning beneath his chin, maintaining the same rhythm.
His breathing followed it.
In. Out. In. Out.
By the time Charles texted to say your extraction would arrive in three hours, Dex’s arm was wrapped around your waist, his thumb tucked beneath the hem of your shirt in slow circles, while you traced your nails on his skin.
I wasn’t asleep, he would insist later.
But his eyes were closed, his breathing was calm, and every so often, when your hand slowed down, Dex nudged his chin insistently against your fingers until you started again.

cw : male yandere, usual criminal organization stuff (drug rings, human trafficking, murder, etc), VERY one-sided relationship.
an : for further context, this one is took the same universe as yandere! superhero just to make it a little bit interesting.
masterlist.
yandere! crime lord that have been ruling over the city for years, his family have built an empire, ruling over the underground of the city since decades ago.
his power is absolute, other crime lords are weary of him and mostly choose to form as an ally rather than oppose to him.
it was not for no reason, his family name on the surface are clean, just a normal old money family that donated to the city (with dirty money). he paid the police and government hush money, keeping his track clean until this day.
and then comes you- a random crime fighter donned in a costume that hides your appearance like it's a halloween season, the first time he heard about you is when you bust one of his drug ring - his biggest one at that.
at first he was intrigued, one person with stupid suit can bust a whole drug ring with bodyguards? he laughed at it, and send some of his lackeys to capture you. they failed of course, his men coming back with multiple broken bones and bruises with their tails tucked between their legs.
at first it was curiosity, then interest, before it becomes frustration, he had gone almost crazy when he found out that you have busted too many of his rings. he put a bounty on your head - dead or alive with a large sum of numbers, no one ever succeed in capturing you.
he starts sending out assasins to track you down, all of them also failed miserably, they might beat you down and injure you to the degree, but never succeed in killing you completely.
after the frustration went down - comes the obsession. he doesn't remember when did his infatuation started, all he remembered that you had taken down too many of his business, too many of his elite assasins have been sent to hospitals and jail.
yandere! crime lord that get a huge adrenaline rush when he finally coming face to face with you, he tried to hide his huge grin when you got him pinned against the ground, he can finally see you up close and my, even if you're covered from head to toe he can tell that you're hell of a person behind that mask. there was something weirdly familiar about your presence.
he escaped successfully that one night just because he had planted a bomb under the building.
yandere! crime lord that becomes possessive of you, he wanted you alive all for himself now, wouldn't let anyone touch you but him alone and let it shows to other crime lords, all other criminals that had touched you all swiftly dealed by his assasins.
his subordinates are confused by his sudden affection towards the vigilante, but no one ever dare to question him, the last brave yet unfortunate guy had commented on the matters have been six feet underneath now.
yandere! crime lord goes as far as creating fake trafficking ring to capture you, and you escaped every single one of them. maybe you're just that slippery, or lucky, or he lets you go just because he enjoyed the chase as a sick form of foreplay, who knows? he's still determined to have you alk for himself anyways.
yandere! crime lord who saw how close you are with yandere! superhero. and immediately planning on to dispose the annoying fly. no matter if yan! supes are a literal justice icon with superpowers, with his money and power - he will dispose him sooner or after.
morally ambiguous! reader, who noticed their weird fixation over them and tried to eliminate both of them for good, only for them to slip away since their will to have you all for themselves are too big.
now it's all just game of switch between prey and predator for the three of you.
Here's a sneak peek of She's So Gone Pt: 2, a Fem! and Best Friend! Reader x Damian Wayne/Robin, I did not expect y'all to love the first part this much so yeah. Unexpected, but I'm working hard to get this second part where I want it for y'all! Anyways hope you enjoy!
Here's She's So Gone (Pt: 1) in case you haven't read it but want to: Part One
Standing in the doorway, disheveled and sweating was none other than Damian Wayne. The two of you made eye contact and you felt the air and color leave you. Heart hammering, you froze for a singular moment, long enough to see the recognition and relief in his eyes.
Something warm blossomed in your chest, a wave of joy that wrapped around your throat. It squeezed at your heart as a bitter taste coated your tongue and you weakly took a breath in. He was here, he was here. It was almost instinctual to lean in and hug him. To start some sort of physical contact as if you make sure he was here-truly here. Then the tight pulsing of your veins and breathing of your lungs yanked you back into reality. He- he had betrayed you, he- he had abandoned you. Pulling back, you squeezed your hand into a fist, eyes raking over him before noticing the movement just beyond his shoulder. No, the person behind him. She looked a little frazzled, but still as perfect as ever. Looking back to Damian the sluggish feeling of betrayal up your spine.
A wave of emotions fierce and roaring climbed up your throat as you backed away from the door. For a moment you couldn't breathe, and the world was spinning as a realization crashed down around you.
He was here.
Why was he here? Why did he have to come just as you were starting to get numb to all those emotions? Why did he have to come after you just made it past an episode? Why did he come? Why? Why?!
Swallowing you pushed back your worries and fears, back the questions and pain. Gripping your hot chocolate tighter as you let out a slow breath, then you began walking towards the door. Hoping your nonchalant attitude would make them ignore you or so baffled you could slip past. As you made it to the doorway, you began to slide towards the street, outside of the store-the place with no escape, to the open and free air that allowed you the opportunity to turn and leave.
Unfortunately, your hopes were in vain. A hand clamped down on your arm, pulling you in. And you blinked, looking to find Damian Wayne practically towering next to you. Eyes frantically racing over your face and body, worry covering every feature as you felt his heavy breaths on your skin. Hell, his heaving chest nearly touched your arms as you felt his heat.
"Y/N."
Taking another breath you gave him a blank look, your eyes instantly drawn to your sister loitering behind him. A muddled mixture of emotions on her face.
"If," You began calmly, your eyes locking on his nose, so you don't have to look into his eyes, "you're here because you think I'm trying to steal Jon or poison him against you, you should know I'm not. And there's no reason to worry."
You saw his jaw twitch and his grip tightened on your arm as he pulled you in even closer. Faintly, you could feel Jon lingering behind you. Clearly watching and waiting for a moment that deemed too much for you or a spot to intervene.
"I am not here because of that."
You bit the inside of your cheek as you looked away from Damian's face. Eyes once again drawing to your sister, whose brow was furrowed, a scowl of sorts on her face.
"Then why are you here?" You softly asked nails digging into your palm as you looked towards the floor.
I’ve got an 8 hour drive ahead of me but I leave you with this quirkless! vigilante! Reader X pro-Hero! Katsuki thought:
Katsuki swears he’s not hurting anyone, swears he’s still able to call himself a hero, swears he’d be able to put his job ahead of you if it ever came to that.
That is, until he finds himself standing over the body of another hero who got to you before he could, knuckles bloody and torn open from where teeth cut into them.
It’s in that moment, as he scoops up your battered form, murmuring comforting words into your hair, that he realizes he already lost you once.
Hey! Can I request a Damian Wayne x reader with extreme prompt number 4 ( “You could have died!” “Yes, and everyone would have been better off right?” ) where the ending is just a load of fluff???

Y/N: Your Name, L/N: Last Name, V/N: Vigilante Name
There are many different kinds of people in this life. People who you will encounter and will stay with you for years, days, months, hours and some for a few seconds. Amongst the different kinds of people are the people who chose you, the people you chose, the people who are forced away from you and the people you are bound to. For the longest time you thought you had only people from the first three categories in your life, you thought wrong.
It was a simple mission, do recon and gain some insights on a possible target. Learn about him, his habits and schedule. After a few weeks of surveillance, you were beginning to get restless. Not matter who tried to get themselves in his path he barely regarded them.
With a party he was throwing coming up, the Justice League was getting near as restless as you were. They didn’t exactly know what to do, majority of the people they had, they sent to try and capture his attention only to fail. Now with practically no one left they turned to you. You were supposed to go under cover at the party and charm the man, it wasn’t that difficult a mission, but there was one problem.
“No,” Bruce Wayne shook his head.
“Come on Bruce!” You pleaded, “This is finally a chance to prove myself. I promise I can do it, trust me.”
Bruce sighed and rubbed his forehead before turning towards your partner in crime, in and out of the mask. Giving his youngest son a questioning look. Crossing his arms Damian looked away from his father for just a second to you. Your eyes were wide, and he shook his head.
“I don’t like it,”
You scowled and rolled your eyes, “Of course you don’t. It’s as if it’s the two of yours mission to prevent me from even becoming a full blown member of the Titans.”
You hadn’t yet become a member due to inexperience, it would take at least another year of vigilantism for them to even consider letting you join them. However if you were to successfully complete a under cover mission, well let’s just say you had high hopes they might be a little more willing to let you even come a candidate.
Taking in a breath you tried to take on a diplomatic persona. If you were going to get what you want you have to be serious about it.
“There isn’t any other girl you can send that he won’t know about. I’m the best option.”
Neither Bruce nor Damian looked convinced and you held back a snarl. If they would just trust you... no, no. You were asking a lot, to go off on your own... but what if you weren’t on your own.
“What if,” You began holding out a hand, “someone went with me. Of course not a girl, but one of the guys came with me. You could pick any of them-”
Before you could finish Bruce hummed and nodded his head as he were contemplating it. Then he rubbed his face. His eyes flickered to Damian for a moment.
“You would need someone who could blend in at the party, someone who is good at improvising.” He mused.
“Well, there goes Jon and Colin.” You sighed.
Damian snorted at first then stopped himself coughing. He shot you a glare and you smiled slightly. Bruce let out a slight huh, before he leaned back in his chair.
“You will need someone you can trust, someone who can get you into the party... someone you are in sync with.”
You blinked in confusion and Damian cursed. He shook his head and took a step back. You didn’t exactly understand what was going but Damian appeared to. Bruce smiled slightly and he shook his head before pushing himself to his feet.
“Damian will go with you.”
Shaking you head you ignored the burning gaze on your neck and began to protest, “What? No, he can’t he’s, he’s-”
Bruce interrupted you without hesitation, “He’s a perfect fit. He can blend in a party, he’s used to improvising, you trust him and are partners on patrol. Most of all he’s my son, so he can get the two of you in.”
“What if he doesn’t want to? What if he won’t?”
You looked to see Damian glaring at his father, his jaw locked and face tight. You highly doubted Damian would, he seemed to be determined to keep you at the little kid's table. probably because he only saw you as one.
“He will.”
You blinked opening your mouth to reply only to close it and shake your head. But why? He won't do it willingly that's for sure-
“Is that an order?”
Damian's voice broke the silence in the room causing you to turn fully towards him. Arms crossed and body stiff he met his father's gaze. Bruce sighed, sinking back into his chair.
"I won't force you, Damian. But... honestly, you're the only person I trust to help Y/N."
The silence returned more suffocating then before and you fidgeted. Nerves strung up so tight someone could use them as a guitar, you forced a breath out. Damian was going to say no, you knew it. He was going to say no and you weren't going to be able to go on the mission. It was either going to end with someone else doing it or completed in a different way.
Damian let out a sigh and you made eye contact with him. He furrowed his brow, and you bit your lip nearly pleading with your eyes. Scowling he broke the eyes contact and closed his eyes. Dropping his arms to his sides he sighed again.
"Fine."
Fine, fine! He said fine~! You were going on the mission. A smile split across your face, and you bounced slightly before taking in a breath trying to calm yourself. You couldn't overreact, that would just make them doubt you. Doubt what you could do and that you could actually complete this mission.
"There is a party he's hosting next week. The two of you need to prepare for it."
Bruce moved papers around on his desk before picking one up and looking it over. He hummed slightly before looking at you.
"It's a masquerade party. Selina hopefully will be able to help find an outfit for you, Y/N."
You let your smile loose as you took a step towards Bruce's desk. Eyes shining and heart racing.
"I can go and talk to her now! Can I?"
Bruce nodded slowly and Damian grumbled something under his breath. Ignoring him you turned and dashed out of the room bouncing as you went.
Patrol right before going on a mission seemed stupid, however if anyone had any suspicions about Damian being Robin and you being V/N, the sight of your vigilante forms out on patrol while civilian forms went to a party would dismiss any and all of them.
Excitement seemed to pulse and flush every part of your body. Heart race and cheeks pink, breath quick and fingers dancing. You were ready to go and change so you could make your way to the party. And then make your way into the Titans.
It seemed however, that Damian was having second thoughts about going with you on the mission. Quietly seething by you he was your exact opposite.
Bouncing across the rooftop you let out a squeal. With only seemed to irritated Damian further then you usually irritated him. Springing over towards him you landed on the heels of your feet. Rocking between them and your toes you leaned over and bumped Damian.
"What's going on with you?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing, nothing? Are you sure Mr. grumpy puss?"
Damian turned to your and raised an eyebrow. His scowl dropping as he opened his mouth for a moment.
"Mr. Grumpy puss?"
Rolling your eyes, you rolled onto the balls of your feet before shrugging.
"I think the nickname fits you perfectly."
A scoff of sorts escaped from Damian, and you smiled at him wildly. Bouncing your eyebrows, you laughed and rolled feet over head onto your butt.
Letting out a sigh you stared up at the sky. The stars were bright, probably due to the clean skies program Wayne industries instituted.
"Do you know any constellations Mr. Grumpy puss?"
Damian sighed, hearing the sound of his feet-his heavy boots moving across the rooftop. Moving over to you he sank next to you and pointed at a star.
"That's the north star, if you know where it is."
You smiled staring up at the stars, the dazzling colors of lights in the sky.
Suddenly there was a buzzing over the comms and you sat up, eyebrow raised.
"V/N, Robin, it's time."
Smiling brightly, you went to jump to your feet only to have Damian yank you back.
You turned to look at him, brow raised, and face twisted.
"What?"
"We are not to be seen leaving!" He hissed in reply
You rolled your eyes waving a hand. He sighed and the two of you began crawling across the ground towards the fire escape.
The dress... it was strange, a vibrant color. Which would definitely stand out at the ball. Of course, you knew there wasn't really a dress code, but it was more of a social thing. Black and white. The dress and mask matched nearly perfectly, and you looked yourself over in the mirror.
You looked... beautiful. And you truly felt beautiful.
Pulling at loose strands you smiled. Only to have Selina whack your hand away from your hair and playfully point a finger at you.
"No touching. You might mess something up."
You nodded and she gently applied the finishing touch. A light gloss on the makeup. Pulling away she smiled and spun you around.
"Now you look ravishing dear. Simply stunning enough to get a whole room around your finger."
A blush raced across your cheeks, and you looked down. You were a bit nervous, though you'd never admit it.
"L/N, Miss Kyle, hur-please hurry up!"
Damian's voice echoed into your ears and a smile curled onto Selina's face as she pushed her tongue along the line of her mouth. Looking towards the door she laughed slightly.
"This is going to be interesting."
Linking arms with you, she began pulling you towards the door and opened it. Leaning in, her breath fanned across your neck, and you swallowed.
"Are you ready to catch a bird my dear little adoptive kitten?"
You gave her a confused look and mad it to the top of the stairs. Below you saw Bruce standing behind a pacing Damian. The second your heeled foot touched the stairs, Damian turned to look at you.
He went still and his brow furrowed even more. Mouth pressing into a line he swallowed and reached up running a hand across his ear.
By the time you made it to the bottom of the stairs you spotted Barabra, Cass and Duke chatting with Alfred.
"Hello," You said somewhat meekly, "how do I look?"
While you believed Selina you wanted unbiased people to give you, their opinions. Cass smiled and gave you a thumbs up and Barabra softly nodded.
"You look lovely Y/N. I think you're going to do great."
Duke nodded, "Yeah! You're gonna kick butt."
Smiling at him you reached over, fist raised only to have him bump it and hear a 'tt' sound. Turning you met Damian's eyes and watched as he looked you over with a clearly critical eye.
"You look- it-. It will work. I guess."
Turning away from you he crossed his arms, scowling. Maybe you didn't look nearly as good as you felt? As you thought. Maybe everyone was just being nice? You didn't know but you weren't going to let Damian's opinion weigh you down.
Walking around the corner Steph appeared. She looked up from her phone and took a glance at you before looking back down only to do a double take.
"Hubba-hubba Y/N, you look hot!"
A blush raced across your cheeks, and you smiled. Before you could reply Steph walked over to Damian and elbowed him.
"Doesn't see look amazing Damian?"
Damian scowled and shot Steph a glare. She leaned on him and he huffed pulling away. Her eyebrow raised and a twisted smile curling up the side of her face you had a suspicion that she was planning something.
"She looks fine."
Steph's smile slid off of her face and she crossed her arms. Opening her mouth to say something only for Barabra to touch her shoulder and shake her head.
Shaking his own head Damian offered his hand out to you.
"We need to hurry, we're already late."
You rolled your eyes but pulled away from Selina and took Damian's hand. Looking back, you caught Selina wink and took in a breath. You can do this. Selina thought you could have an entire room around your finger, so why not play into it?
"Oh dear, were not. You're a Wayne you never can be late. Everyone else is just early. "
Damian's grip on your hand tightened for a moment before he pulled you closer. He let go and offered his arm to you. You accepted and gave everyone one final look.
"Bye," you said with a wink.
Steph pressed a hand to her chest and another to her forehead before letting out a loud gasp and falling against Duke.
Laughter escaped you and you turned back towards the door. You were ready for anything... well maybe not anything but close to it.
Much to your surprise little to no one noticed your late arrival. Though you did catch many people's glances at you. Probably because of the color of your dress but it didn't matter.
Damian and you entered the room and music was playing with servers walking around. It looked almost exactly like a scene from a book.
Dangling lights, people dressed in silks, furs and silver. Walls decorated with murals and stained glass in every window.
“Wow,” You breathed, “this is amazing.”
It was stunning, beautiful and whimsical all at once.
“I don’t know why you’re so stunned.” Damian muttered pulling you closer to him as you passed through the crowd, “Father hosts parties all the time.”
Showing you bumped him slightly before leaning in and whispering, “Yes but those are burning parties. This is wonderful, it’s- I am at a loss for words I can’t explain how wonderful just the look of this is. If you want me to be amazed by a Wayne party do something like this.”
Damian snorted before loudly remarking, “Fine we’ll get this place just for you.”
You gave Damian a confused look for a moment before deciding to go along. Leaning on his arm you smiled causing him to go stiff for a moment
“You really will?”
Batting your eyelashes at him you smiled sweetly, Damian went still, and his breathing nearly stopped.
Elbowing him you kept your eyes on him and he blinked. Clearing his throat, he looked at you and nodded.
"Of course."
His voice was softer and for a moment it felt like the whole room was staring. Letting out a breath you pulled away from him smiling.
"Yay."
Your heart seemed to skip a beat and Damian began guiding you towards a table. You stopped and sat down. Damian sank into a seat next to you and you looked eagerly towards the dance floor.
"Should we dance?"
Damian shook his head and looked out on the dance floor eyes narrowed.
"No, here is a perfect vantage point."
You opened your mouth to say something when Damian locked his jaw. He looked... upset seemed too weak a word to use. Maybe questioning him wasn't the best idea right now.
A song passed as the two of you sat in silence. A waiter walked over carrying a tray of drinks and offered you one. You reached out to take it only for Damian to wave him away. The waiter continued on his way, and you let out an irritated sigh.
Another song passed, and a man in a black suit a few years older then the two of you walked over. He smiled as Damian and stretched out his hand.
"Wayne, it's good to see you. How's your father?"
Damian took the man's hand begrudgingly and shook it. Through clenched teeth he replied.
"You as well, my father had business to attend to elsewhere, so he was unable to accompany us tonight."
The man blinked and looked to you. Damian froze for a moment before gesturing to the man.
"This is Felix Christan. An associate of my father's."
The name sounded familiar but the way Damian treated him seemed cold, distant. Maybe he was just a Wayne industry associate.
Felix clapped Damian on the shoulder looking you over with a smile, "Oh don't be like that Wayne."
He looked to you and smiled, "Our fathers worked together for a while. Mine is currently training me to be the CEO for when he retires. But let's talk about something fun, important."
"Which would be?" You asked an eyebrow raised.
"Who you are." Felix smiled and Damian went stiff again.
You blinked and pointed at yourself, "Me?"
"Yes, who are you?"
Your mind raced and you realized why the name seemed familiar. He was very close with the target. Talking to him might help you learn more information. Thinking back to what Selina told you, the advice she gave you paused.
"Mystery is very intriguing. So be mysterious if you want to capture attention."
“Nobody in particular.”
“I highly doubt that.”
The silence seemed to make Damian calm down. However, you decide to reply. Leaning on your arm you gave Felix a flirtatious smile.
"Really?"
He licked his lips leaning in a bit towards you and Damian clenched his fist. He probably didn't like the guy being so close to him. The dork had issues with things like that.
“Of course, how could a beautiful girl like you be no one? And with a Wayne at that. Though it seems you aren’t with a Wayne.”
It seemed Selina's advice was working, and Damian hadn't said anything so maybe it would be a good idea to continue... and mention you and Damian weren't really here together.
"Yeah, Bruce thought it'd be a good idea if Damian had a date. He's too much like his dad and needs some good publicity. So here I am."
Felix raised his eyebrows in surprise, and you winked at him. He laughed slightly as the band began starting up a new song. Looking behind him he pulled away from Damian. Then turning back to you he offered a hand.
"Then would you care for a dance?"
"She's busy." Damian snapped pushing Felix's hand away from you.
You turned towards Damian and raised an eyebrow a bitter smile on your face. Letting out a breath you turned back towards the man. Damian had been making you sit here almost all night. You were here for a reason, and if he was going to be stubborn... you'd have to fight dirty.
Pushing away from the table you reached out and grabbed Felix's limp hand.
"I'd love too, poor Damian get jealous easily. But he has not reason too. After all I'm just the date he ignores."
You didn't look behind you as Felix guided you to the dance floor and pulled you in rather close. You met his eyes and smiled.
"Why don't you tell me about yourself?" He asked as the song truly started.
He spun you and you crinkled your nose slightly shaking your head.
"Hmm, no. You tell me about you."
"Why?"
Felix looked confused and you laughed slightly leaning in towards him.
"Because you intrigue me. And... the more I learn about you, the more you'll learn about me."
"Fine, you know my name. What's yours?"
You hummed; happy your plan was working but also feeling the burning glare of Damian on your back.
"Hmm, nobody~"
"That can't be true. A woman as beautiful as you, has to have a name, maybe one as stunning as she it."
Laughing again you shrugged.
"A name is very personal. Tell me somethings and you might learn it."
"Alright, what do you want to know?"
Swirling and twirling across the dance floor you felt like you were a princess. Your heart beating faster as it seemed you cast a spell on Felix.
"Tell me about your work, I've vaguely heard things from the Waynes and want to know if their fact or fiction."
"Good things I hope." He nervously chuckled
You shrugged smiling somewhat coyly.
"Some, you are the son of a prominent man. A reputation would precede you."
Felix nodded and began speaking.
"I work for my father's company as you know, training to be CEO. Currently I'm handling the relations between other companies. Diplomacy and negotiating are things I've learned a lot about. And I get to rub shoulders with some of the biggest CEOs in the east."
You hummed, resisting the mischievous smile that wanted to work its way onto your face.
"So, you know the man who threw this party, Anson McCluntly? I wanted to ask him where he got such a lovely idea from. I was telling Damian that more parties should be like this. It's... incredible."
"It isn't the only incredible thing tonight."
Heat flushed your cheeks, and you bowed your head biting your lip. This was probably the most any man had flirted with you in your entire life.
"You're too much, I'm not incredible."
"Beautiful, funny, and humble too. What is wrong with Wayne. You're a catch."
You laughed and Felix leaned in towards you.
"If you want," He whispered, "I can get us into the office old man McCluntly keeps here."
"Really?" You asked eyes widening as a smile exploded on your face.
Felix's face seemed to flush, and he nodded. Around you people began to slow, and the dance came to an end.
"Yeah I-"
"Y/N!"
You snapped your head in the direction to see Damian storming over to you. He- did he call you by-. No no, he interrupted Felix that is more important right now.
"Y/N?" Felix asked cause you to blink.
You smiled and nodded, "My name. Sorry I wasn't the one to give it."
"I'm not, it's a... a name that fits it's owner."
You smiled more and Damian suddenly was beside you. Pulling away from Felix you sighed. He gave you a sympathetic smile and waved.
"I apologize. Looks like my date's getting a little jealous... I guess I'll see you late Felix."
"Bye, Y/N."
Allowing Damian to take your hand, you started walking back to the table only to have him pull you out into the hallway. Glaring he let out a slow breath.
"What. the. hell. was. that?"
Pulling away from him you crossed your arms and raised an eyebrow.
"What was what? Oh, you mean me actually doing the thing were here for?"
Damian took in a breath before clenching his fists and taking a step towards you.
"Flirting with Christan accomplishes nothing."
"It would have. If you hadn't pulled me away. Gosh, do you really think I'm so stupid I don't know what I 'm doing? If it weren't for you, we could be leaving within the hour."
Damian shook his head before locking his jaw.
"No, you wouldn't. You don't know Christan."
Letting out a laugh you looked at Damian shaking your head.
"And you do? Damian the only friends you have outside of the family are other her-"
Damian's hand clamped over your mouth, pushing against it so hard you ended up pressed against the wall. His breathing was erratic, and you swallowed.
He pulled away from you slightly. Just enough that you could see his face. For a moment or two, you just stared at each other. Letting out a slow breath you felt Damian lean in and you in took quickly. However, the sound of a door slamming caused him to flinch.
Leaning in Damian seemed to press his head against the wall. You felt his breath on your ear and-
"We are undercover," He hissed, "watch what you say."
With that he pulled away from you and stormed back into the party. With your heart in your throat, you breathed. Slowly and carefully collecting yourself. He-he was so close and- and- God did you like it?
Shaking your head, you forced the thoughts from your mind and looked around. You were in the hall, the hall that more then likely lead to McCluntly's office.
Which means you could end this mission a whole lot faster. Letting out a breath, you pushed yourself away from the wall and began walking.
Heels softly clacking on the ground you continued to walk looking around at the doors and found nothing. You knew a little about the architecture of the building. Tim had the blueprints laid out and you got a quick glance at them before being dragged away to get ready.
From what you remember, the office should be connected to a bathroom, which you would hide in if necessary. And it didn't appear that there were any bathrooms nearby at all. Letting out a sigh you turned the corner and looked at the walls still opening to find it.
Spinning around, you looked to see if you missed something. But it appeared everything was exactly as you saw before. Letting out a sigh you turned back around only to find someone standing right in front of you.
A man in black with a wire from his ear loomed above you and you laughed nervously.
"Hi."
"What are you doing back here?"
"Oh, I was looking for the bathroom. I asked someone earlier and they said it was just down the hall, but I think I got lost. Could you help me?"
The man blinked and tilted his head when you heard the sound of heavy and fast footsteps behind you. Turning you found Damian racing towards.
"There you are!" He exclaimed
Placing his hands onto your shoulders he made you face him before saying,
"I've been looking for you everywhere."
You blinked and he shot the man who you now realized was a guard a apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry about her," His grip on your shoulder tightened for a moment, "we'll be going now."
With that he pulled you away from the guard and down the hall. Pushing a door, you thought random open he yanked you through it and outside.
"What were you thinking?" He growled before the door even closed behind you.
"I was thinking," You began shoving away from him. "Of finishing- of doing what I'm here for."
“You could have died!”
“Yes, and everyone would have been better off right?”
Damian blinked in surprise, and you shook you head letting out a breath.
"God, Damian. Do you not think I know what you think of me?"
He swallowed before opening his mouth, but you kept pressing on.
"You think I'm a reckless child who has no fucking clue what she's doing. I know that you probably think without me this would all be easier. That this mission would have been a done deal. But damn it I'm not a child. I know what I'm doing and if you'd stop being a dick and getting in my fucking way this shit would be done!"
Panting you took in a breath, your cheeks hot and something spilling down them.
"I'm not an idiot, nor do I want anyone else to be put in danger. If you'd think for one moment, you'd realize I'm not useless!"
Damian just stared at you, and you let out a wordless scream before turning and yanking the door open. Storming inside you tried to force yourself to calm down but you couldn't.
Hot tears began spilling down your face and you found yourself hiccupping as you tried to stop from crying.
"Uh, Miss?"
You looked up and found a guard... the same one maybe? Standing in front of you.
"Are you alright?"
You shook your head, hiccupping more as sobs escaped you and you took in a breath.
"Do-do you have somewhere I could take a moment... just to calm down? I-i don't want anyone to see me like this."
The guard nodded and pointed down the hall.
"Bathroom's the third door on the left."
You nodded and hurried along the way. Muttering thanks and rubbing at your nose. After passing him you realized what had just happened.
The bathroom... you were walking towards the bathroom! The office was next to the bathroom.
You watched for a moment as a woman in a long dress hurried over to a door and pushed it open. Walking forwards you looked at the now locked door and the one next to it. Hearing a door open you hurried forwards and pulled the office doorknob. It slid smoothly down, and you pushed the door open. Hurrying into the room you closed the door behind you with a sigh.
You did it, you were in!
Moving carefully forwards, you walked around the dark room towards what you hopped was the computer. Sinking into a seat you reached out and felt a mouse.
Wiggling it, the screen lit up. Blinking you noted a sticky note on the side with messy handwriting on it and you tilted your head. Did he have his password on a stickynote?
A box appeared and you shrugged, typing in the word and hitting enter. A circle appeared for a few moments.
Loading, loading, loading.
~Welcome~
Success!
Yanking your bracelet off you twisted the clasp to reveal a USB drive. Plugging it into the computer you allowed access and proceeded to download the entire hard drive. It, much like Barabra told you, happened within five minutes.
~Complete~
Letting a smile appear on your face you pulled the hard drive out and went to log out when a box appeared on the screen.
~Do you want to erase this session? ~
You almost laughed and pressed yes. The screen flickered then began to go dark.
~Logging out~
Clipping your bracelet back on you pushed away from the desk and stood up. Returning the chair to where it belonged you began walking towards the door when you heard footsteps. Your breath caught and you tried to stop yourself from moving however your foot went down and twisted. The footsteps got louder, and you launched yourself for the nearest chair.
The door creaked open, and light spilled into the room and your stomach rolled. Sniffing you felt sobs still in your throat an- sobs!
That's it!
Making your jaw tremble you felt tears spilling down your face and you let out a whimper as you began to cry again.
"What the fuck?"
Blinking you pretended to look up and towards the door. Wiping at your eyes you sniffed again.
"Why are you in here?" A blurry man asked, and you thanked whoever that your mascara had blurred your vision.
"I-" You began your voice trembling, "I'm so sorry I just... I needed a moment alone and the bathroom- someone was in there."
Sobbing some more, you pushed yourself to your feet and began walking towards the door.
"I'm- I'm really sorry I'll just- I'll just go."
A hand was suddenly blocking the way and you blinked to see the man's arm stopping you from continuing on.
"What happened?" He asked and part of you knew it wasn't out of concern.
Sniffing you shrugged and whimpered.
"My- my date. He and I- I thought we were together. We've been seeing each other for a while and- and- and I thought he was going to propose. In-instead he broke up with me."
Letting out a throat burning sob you leaned against the man and shook. Feeling a hand on you head you heard mumbling. Suddenly the man pulled you away from him and wince.
"I'm- I'm sorry that happened. Why don't I walk you out?"
You sniffed, wiping more tears from your ace before looking at the man who you now could see was McClunty.
"I couldn't. I mean you're being so nice after-after I came here without permission. I should have just waited for the bathroom."
Beginning to cry again you opened your mouth only to have McClunty stop you.
"it's alright. Really. Let's go out."
He offered his arm to you, and you looked up at him. Trying to seem as pitiful as possible. Sniffing you took his arm and swallowed.
"Tha-thank you. You're being so n-nice."
McClunty began guiding you from the office and you felt him shrug.
"Well... I. crying women are my weakness."
You sniffed some more and McClunty walked you through a door outside. Across the way you saw people filing out of the building towards cars. Looked like the party was over.
Amongst the midst of people, Damian stood looking around frantically. You sniffed and McClunty patted your arm.
"Will- will you be okay?"
You nodded and wiped at your eyes again, "I- I think I'll be okay. Th-thank you for being so nice Mr-?"
"McClunty," He filled in with a tight smile.
"Oh oh I am so sorry!" You lied
"No, no just. Try to have a good rest of you night."
You nodded and slipped away from McClunty before moving towards Damian. He spotted you and moved through the crowd.
"Y/N" He began reaching towards you, "Are- are you alright?"
Biting your lip, you internally reminded yourself to apologize for this. Raising you hand you swung it at his face. A crack echoed across the parking lot and a lot of people went quiet. Glaring at him you raised your chin.
"Take me home. Now."
Damian nodded and gestured towards a limo, his cheek red and eyes wide. Walking over to the limo, Damian opened the door and you climbed in. He closed the door and Alfred turned giving you a confused look. Damian climbed in and shut the door.
Alfred took off, you waited a moment or two, till you were sure you were out of sight to turn to Damian.
"Sorry," You winced staring at his cheek.
Damian looked to you, his brow furrowed, "What?"
You gestured to his cheek and grimaced. Hand fluttering by his face you swallowed a breath and put a hand to his cheek.
"For slapping you. I- i need to but still sorry."
Damian raised a hand, placing it over yours and tilted his head.
"But- but i deserved it."
You blinked and shook your head in confusion.
What?
"I- I ruined the mission and- and made you feel- I shouldn't have made you feel that way I am sorry. But you should know I do not think you are useless."
You blinked a few times and a breath escaped you in shock. You opened you mouth to speak but Damian continued on.
"You are not useless L/N. And I do not see you as a child. You are..." He paused looking your face over, "Annoying."
A snort escaped you and Alfred chuckled before Damian's face and ears flushed.
"Real charming Wayne." You remarked.
"No- What I meant was, you- I don't- ugh. I do not interact with you because I tolerate your personality."
"Smooth."
"I interact with you because of you."
What? Furrowing your brow, you opened you mouth once again to speak but Damian raised his free hand to cover it.
"Let me finish."
You nodded, but he didn't move his hand.
"Ugh, this is difficult. More so then Grayson said it would be."
He had talked to Dick? But what about?
Looking you in the eyes, Damian swallowed and took in a breath.
"I have discovered that I care for you L/N... in a romantic nature."
Damian let the breath out and nodded. Removing his hand from your mouth and the one covering yours he nodded.
"I am ready for your response now."
You let out a laugh and removed your hand from his cheek. He cared for you in a romantic nature. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
"Does," You began pressing a hand to your forehead, "Does that mean you like me?"
He let out a breath before shaking his head.
"I love you."
You blinked once, then twice. Your heart skipped and your lungs screamed. Your jaw dropped for a moment, and you laughed. He loved you... he loved you.
"I- I don't know what to say Damian."
He furrowed his brow and took your hand into his.
"Do you not believe me? I can- I will do whatever you wish to prove it."
You shook your head even more shocked.
"No- no I believe you it's just. You- is that why you've always treated me like a kid?"
"I never treated you like a child... though I did prioritize your safety more often then naught."
You began laughing, hard, throat burning and body shaking you laughed. Pressing a hand to your face you pressed your back against the door of the car.
"You love me? Ha, I never-"
Covering your mouth, you forced yourself to stop laughing. Stop laughing as your mind raced to figure- to understand what was going on. He loved you and- and all this time you've been trying to prove you weren't a kid and- he loved you.
"It isn't that funny." Damian muttered
You blinked looking up at him and shook your head.
"I'm- I'm not laughing at you. I just... I think- I think I love you too. Nd I'm wondering how I- How I never realized it."
More laughter spilled from you and Damian blinked. You lowered you hand, hearing the sound of the window between the back and the drive go up.
"You- you feel the same?" He asked eyes wide and mouth tight.
"Yeah, I think so. But- honestly Damian, you didn't blow the mission."
Damian blinked and shook his head.
"Yes, yes I did."
"No, you didn't"
Pointing to your wrist you smiled brightly and slid towards him. Pulling the bracelet off of your wrist you dropped it into his hands.
"I was able to download McClunty's entire hard drive. He found me and I made up a story about you and I dating and then breaking up. It's why I hit you. He seemed to buy it and..." You trailed off looking up at him.
"You," Damian began before smiling, "you are infuriating."
Your jaw dropped and you gave him a shocked look.
"Excuse me, I just saved your ass! Without me this mission would be a complete and total failure!"
"You're right." He reamrked leaning in towards you.
"You never would have been able to pull off the distressed woman routine."
"You're right."
"You definitely wouldn't have been able to convince everyone that I dumped you." You remarked crossing your arms feeling his breath on your neck.
"You're right.
"Quit saying that!"
You turned and found him right in front of you, eyes soft and warm.
"Whatever you wish... can I kiss you?" He whispered
Your heart hammered in your chest, and you replied, "Only if you admit you couldn't pull this dress off."
"I can't you- you look-. When I first saw you L/n- Y/N. You took my breath away. It was hard to think seeing you and now... now I-"
You flushed and scrunched up your nose.
"Oh, stop with the compliment and just kiss me already."
He smiled, his hand upping the back of your head and he pulled you in remarking, "Of course beloved."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emotions are complex things, fierce and lasting things that always seemed to rage at the wrong moments. Emotions were tricky far trickier then they seemed, especially since they shifted so fluidly and quickly. Changing from calm coolness to a raging inferno of anger.
It made you question how you were able to become a vigilante in the first place.
It was a calm night, so calm even the comms was quiet. A strange and unnatural occurrence... though it might have to do with Catwoman being spotted and Batman chasing after her.
It was going to be a quiet night, he had said. There's no need for back up. But you had begged. Begged to be let back on patrol, it had been weeks... months actually almost two full months since you had been injured.
Much to your surprise he had agreed. You could come along, but no one else. Tim needed to sleep, Damian and Duke had school tomorrow and Dick really needed to get back to his life in Bludhaven. Cass was off on a ballet trip and a broken leg took away any chance Steph had of even being considered.
So, reluctantly he had allowed you to come back. To come out into the open and cool night air once again. The city was quiet... well quiet for Gotham and you were almost enjoying yourself.
Perched by the Gargoyles- nestled against one actually, you watched as the night life of the city hummed and buzzed. A gentle sound for such a place of violence- it was nice. Peaceful and... calming.
Part of you whispered this new calm had to do with a crime boss rising up. The bane of the underworld, the rumors called him. You would just call him Jay-
No, no you wouldn't... no, you couldn't think about this. About him, it never ended well for you. No, it never, ever did.
Looking down at your hands you could still see the lines- the scars the rope made and the thin reminder of the fire that claimed so many lives dancing up the base of your wrists.
"Do they still hurt when it rains?" A voice asked, a deadly familiar voice.
A laugh escaped you and you replied before you fully realized what was happening, "Only if it's really pouring."
Just as the words left your lips, you found yourself freeze as the realization hit you. Only one person knew about that joke, and only one person had that voice. That heartbreakingly comforting voice that still haunted your nightmares.
Looking up you found a man, a man in a red helmet and strange looking armor with a peculiar red bat symbol across his chest. A brown leather jacket clung to his arms as he crouched near you.
Your mouth was a gap as your mask clad eyes began to water and for a brief moment you heard an alarm of sorts going off from the comms. Frantic voices cracked over the line before it finally fell into the staticky sound of snow.
Swallowing, your body flinched slamming against the gargoyle which shuttered and twitched. Sliding along the edge you tried so hard to get far enough away you could get back onto the roof and fight him. After all, there was no reason for him to be here. No reason for him to want to talk to you unless- unless he was trying to distract you from some crime or-or something bad that was happening.
Rolling under the gargoyle's arms, you safely made it onto the roof and whipped out some batarangs as your breath went still.
Jas- no, Red Hood held up his hands as he rose to his full height shaking his head. You felt your body trembling as you glared at him. Something in you beginning to shift and slide, fighting to come back into the light.
"I'm not gonna fight you, Mouse."
Locking your jaw, you swallowed again and raised your head before sliding your free hand towards the bar that pressed into your side. Of course he had to use that damned nickname.
"That's unfortunate because I sure as hell am going to fight you."
Snapping the bar out, the long chain tail- flail swirled out jumping forwards and causing J-Red Hood to lurch backwards. The tiny spikes that clung to the tip chain glimmered and glinted of death in the moonlight.
Narrowing your eyes, you twisted before swinging the flail at him. His body dropped as he dodged the swinging chain.
"Y/N, stop. I don't want to fight you."
A snarl escaped you as you pulled, sending the chain whirling in his direction, "Funny, because I don't remember asking you!"
He let out a grunt before the flail slammed into his arm, sending him towards the concrete.
"Is this really how you treat your friends, Mouse?"
"Only the former ones."
He sputtered out a laugh and you heard him cough. Part of you burst with worry. What if you hit him too hard? What if he's badly injured and coughing up blood? What if he dies?
"Former? Come on, don't I deserve a little more credit then that? I did save your life after all."
You forced yourself to roll your eyes as his words slammed into your gut. Whispers of the past drummed in your ears, and you shook your head.
"I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about."
Red Hood froze for a moment, and you yanked the chain of your flail back. It skittered by him for just a moment before he was suddenly lunging towards it. His hands were wrapped around it before you could even think to stop him. He pulled on the chain and you, as he wrapped the chain around himself.
"Do you not remember? Remember how we'd sneak the wallets out of pedestrians and would spend hours in the library reading to each other?"
"I do!" You hissed trying to pull the flail's chain from his hands as memories slammed against your vision, "I REMEMBER EVERYTHING, DO YOU?"
"What in the hell is that supposed to mean?"
You looked at him, tears forming in your eyes before you squeezed them shut and let out a breath.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
It was a dark and dreary day when you first met Jason Peter Todd. Rifling through garbage cans wasn't the most sanitary thing to do, but it was your only option. You were too clumsy and noticeable to pick pockets and weren't exactly what the madams and pimps were looking for. After all, you were only seven.
You were halfway through the reeking trash when you felt a presence. Rising out of the can, you narrowed your eyes to see a boy around your age stand just behind you. He wrinkled his nose before shaking his head.
"You're rat, right?"
You let out a hiss and the boy blinked before snorting slightly, though his eyes shined of fear, he didn't run away.
"I think I understand the nickname now, though Oscar the grouch would be more appropriate."
You glared at him, and he nervously looked you up and down before sighing.
"I'll give you food if you help me dump some drugs."
You blinked, tilting your head to the side you raised an eyebrow and the boy blushed ever so slightly.
"I heard that you're good at it and need to get rid of some."
Shimming a bit, you looked him over before letting out a sigh. It had been a while since you got a good meal. Rising more, you hopped out of the trash can and nodded slowly.
The boy blinked and you tilted your head again. He swallowed nervously the said, "You'll do it?"
A sigh of relief escaped him, and he offered out his hand to you. You narrowed your eyes, blinking before giving him a look. Did he really want to shake hands with you?
"Come on," He tried weakly, "I don't bite."
Hesitantly, you moved forwards before pressing your grime covered hand in his.
"Jason." He said with a smile.
You swallowed as one of the very few words you knew sprang to mind. Your own name. But- you didn't know how to say it really. Just how it looked.
"Do you have a name?" Jason asked his brows furrowed.
You nodded and Jason's furrow grew deeper, "Do you not want to tell me then?"
You shook your head rapidly and Jason sighed before tilting his own head.
"Do you know your name?"
You nodded again before raising a hand towards your face. How to tell him? Oh, OH! Yes.
Pressing a finger against your mouth you shook your head. Jason hesitated for a moment before blinking.
"Oh, you can't speak?"
You shook your head once more and Jason tried again.
"You don't know how to say it?"
You nodded and Jason placed his hands on his hips shaking his head before sighing again.
"Okay, I guess. Come on, we have to go back to my house to get the stuff."
Jason began to walk, and you quickly followed, there was food after all. It didn't take long before you arrived at a apartment complex, you went up to a modest door and Jason knocked. A few seconds later the door opened, and a blonde woman poked her head out. She blinked before sighing.
"Jason, what are you doing- wait... is that a little girl with you?"
Jason nodded, pushing the door open and pulling you into the apartment. The woman closed and locked the door behind her.
"Yup, she was on the street and helped me out, so I offered her some food in return."
The woman looked you over before shaking her head.
"Alright, but please don't do this again... Also, what's her name? What's your name dear?"
"She can't really speak. But everyone calls her rat."
"Rat? My goodness that's an awful name. Come on now. I'm going to get her washed up. Why don't you find something for her to eat jay?"
"Course mom."
Mom? This was his mother? The woman gently took you by the arm and guided you towards a room just away from the front door. Not long later, she had you in a tub of warm water and was spraying water across your face, "How in the world did you end up so dirty?"
You didn't reply, instead you blinked up at her and she smiled softly at you. Sweet smelling substances were rubbed across your body and hair and then washed away before you were pulled out of the now black water and wrapped in a towel.
Not long later, Jason walked into the room holding bundle in his arms. His mom looked over her should before turning back to you a smile on her face. "Hmm, I don't know jaybird. She doesn't really look like a rat, does she?"
"No, not really."
"I think she looks more like a mouse! A cute little fluffy mouse. Ooo, we should call her that!"
Jason snorted as your face flushed red. The soft and fluffy towel wrapped around your frame. Then suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door. Jason's mom went still before a drowsy smile stretched across her face. She patted your head and began walking towards the door.
"Stay here and until I come and get you two alright?"
You nodded and she closed the door as she left. Jason let out a soft string of curse words before passing a bundle of clothes to you.
"These are some of my old things, they will probably fit best."
You smiled at him, and he paused for a moment before turning away.
"Just get dressed please. I still need your help."
"I'm really sorry about your mom Jay." You whispered, leaning against his shoulder.
He sighed before shrugging, "Don't be too sorry. It's not your fault after all."
Punching his side you scowled at him, and he finally looked you in the eyes. They were red and you could see the remnants of tears on his face.
"It doesn't matter Y/N. It- it's been almost a year."
"And? It doesn't change the fact that I just found out and she's- was your mom!"
Jason pushed you back and you head butted him causing him to laugh.
"Ouch Mouse, did you really have to do that?"
You nodded, "Yes. One your are being stupid trying to be stoic and two I know you're keeping something from me."
"Aww, full sentences I'm so proud."
You elbowed him again and he winced before rubbing the back of his neck. Your face fell as you looked him over.
"Jaybird?"
"Bruce Wayne is adopting me."
Everything went quiet for a moment, and you forced a breath out.
"Oh, OH. I- sorry. I should be congratulating you. Congrats, you're finally getting out of here."
"Yeah," Jason began turning towards you, "without you."
"Don't worry about me I'll be fine."
"Mouse, I've been worried about you since we first met. You don't have the best track record."
"And you do?"
Jason froze before a small smile appeared on his face, "Touche."
Laying your head on his shoulder you sighed, "I'll be fine. Don't worry too much. And if you feel like you really need to, you are always welcome to visit."
"Really?"
"Course Jaybird."
"Thanks, Mouse."
Swallowing the bitter feeling rising in your throat you gave him a sharp nod and a soft smile.
It felt as though you had swallowed live coals. Burning hot and strong, they scorched your throat as the heavy rain poured and slammed into the ground.
The sky- oh god the sky was grey and dark. The world was dark and you- you couldn't even function.
Dead. He was dead.
A car accident, they said. Halfway across the world. And now- now you were alone because he was gone.
Your mouth felt so dry and yet, the tears never seemed to stop. Not when your hair was drenched and skin soaked, not when the rain seemed ready to swallow you up but never spit you out. No, the tears almost seemed as if they could out last the rain.
After all they filled the now hollow shell that you were. You couldn't even hear or feel your own heartbeat anymore. Breathing- oh hell breathing was forced at best. Why- why should you keep going if he was gone?
Gone. Gone like everyone else you had ever cared about, ever. Was it you? Were you the cause for this? Why did he have to die? Why did he have to be so far away when it happened, why couldn't he have been close?
Why didn't you get to say goodbye?
Or was- was it because whatever want to say goodbye was now gone too?
Something sharp brought you back to reality. Blinking you found a spike digging into your hand and drawing blood. Looking at him you swallowed. Two months, it had been two months since you discovered he was alive and nearly died in your fit of frustration.
Shaking your head, you fought off the memories that tried to surface. The others were bad enough you didn't need more to make it worse.
"Why?" he whispered causing you to look at him.
"Why what?"
"Why can't things just go back to the way they used to be?"
It was hard to breathe, with him so close- so desperate, "Because you left me! You- you always do!"
Your reply was sputtered, and halfhearted. Jason shook his head and leaned in closer to you his voice becoming clearer.
"What?"
"I'm-i'm not the same as I used to be."
"I don't care. You'll always be Y/N to me." His voice cracked and part of you began to crumble.
Why- why couldn't you just ignore these stupid and pounding feelings? These things that pulsed and jumped at his touched and danced, screaming at the sound that broken tone; why couldn't you just ignore them?
Tears, hot and fierce flushed against your eyes, "But- you changed too."
"No, no I'm-no!" Jason shook his head again and you could swear you could see his pleading expression through the mask, "I'm the same as I've always been. I'm your jaybird and you're my mouse. Always will be."
"No-no I'm not." You whispered as that rainy day flooded your mind.
"Why not?" Jason asked pulling you in even closer and causing all of your emotions to come bubbling out.
"BECAUSE YOU DIED. AND- AND WHEN YOU DIED, I-"
Jason pulled you in closed, close enough that you can hear his breathing, "You what?"
"I DIED WITH YOU!"
His grip went slack, and you yanked the flail from his grasps your body trembling. Why couldn't you just shut up?
"What?"
You looked back towards him feeling tears now spilling down your face. Closing your eyes for just a moment you raised your head.
