Aela the Huntress could be a heavy hitter in this tournament- she's popular even outside her role as a Companion, and previously placed at an impressive 4th in the marriage candidate tournament. As well as a potential spouse, she is also a member of the Circle, follower, and werewolf. If you fully clear all Companions quests, she's actually the only werewolf remaining, besides possibly yourself. Vignar Gray-Mane might struggle to defeat her. He's a retired Companion, still living in Jorrvaskr- unless he becomes Jarl, in which case he'll move to Dragonsreach- and the brother of Eorlund Gray-Mane, the Companions' blacksmith.

Farkas, angrily: SHE IS MY DEAR!

Vignar Gray-Mane: I don’t know why you people are shocked, Eorlund and Fralia act the same way.

Torvar: But he’s not Eorlund, he’s Farkas

Farkas, Vilkas, and Alva in unison: What’s that supposed to mean?

Ria: Torvar…

Torvar: I just mean that Farkas is this big tough man and not all soft and-

Vilkas: Farkas is the most annoyingly sweet person I know!

Alva, at the same time as Vilkas: Being big and tough doesn’t mean you can’t be soft and sweet!

Wondering about the unique status of Vignar Gray-Mane within the Companions - really an interesting character from many angles. Veteran of the company, veteran of the Great War - same circumstances as Skjor, but Vignar is not in the Circle. Instead, he's poised to yank the Jarlship from Balgruuf and make his family the most powerful in Whiterun.

Joining the Circle would only increase his prestige and power in the city, which is something he's clearly concerned with. A role in the Circle doesn't seem to preclude obtaining other powerful ranks. And yet Vignar is content to roam around Jorvasskr in his current role, never expressing spite or bitterness that he's been passed over three times in favor of younger warriors.

The only explanation I can imagine is that at some point in the past Kodlak or a Harbinger before him offered Vignar the rank, along with the lycanthrophy, and Vignar declined. Probably thinking about the political ramifications and shame his family would experience should the Companions ever be exposed. Additionally, considering his apparent reverence for Talos, he would never trade an afterlife in Sovngarde for the Hunting Grounds. So now Vignar is called the Revered, and he's one of the most respected warriors in Whiterun, but he has plausible deniability in regards to the whole "The Circle is a Daedric Cult that sold their souls to Hircine" affair. I think this matches up nicely with the shrewdness we see from him in-game.

Fits with his line about the Companions: "They used to be something. Nowadays they just squabble amongst themselves."

Maybe a commentary on the division between Skjor and Aela vs. Kodlak and the twins about what to do about the beast blood? That's really the only case of genuine conflict we see in the company.

Another possible dimension of this is that Vignar is Kodlak's Harbinger of last resort - if everyone on the Circle is hunted down or arrested for their curse, Vignar steps in as a stabilizing agent so that the Companions survive even if the Circle does not.
