Shouldn’t Have Done That
Zoey’s Lament
(this got angstier than I thought it would. don’t worry, though, [almost] everyone is okay in the end. nsft ahead)
I theorize that if rumira were try to rob Zoey's mom was to try to find some of Zoey's childhood things and the only reason her mother seems to think nothing was taken is because she doesn't value it that much to notice it missing .
But this is only if rumira were to try to break and enter that house which of course they didn't 👀.
(for those not aware of what this is about)
Zoey paced back and forth in front of the bed, pinching the top of her nose. Her eyes were closed, and her mouth pursed. Every shuffle of the sheets or sound of one of her two sources of frustration beginning to speak made her hold her hand up, pointing her finger to the sky, as if to say, “Wait!”
It was only on her what-had-to-be 50th lap of the space that she finally stopped and turned towards Rumi and Mira, who were sitting on the edge of the bed, heads held low and faces full of consternation.
She took a deep breath. “Why?” she asked.
Rumi bit her lip. “We don’t-“
“And none of that ‘legally speaking, we don’t know what you’re talking about’ stuff, because that doesn’t matter right here, right now. I wanna know why you did it.”
Mira glared at the floor. “Because fuck her.”
Zoey sighed. “Mira-“
“No, I’m serious. Fuck. Her. She’s an asshole, and I hate her, and she deserved worse than what she got for how she treated you.” Mira stood up, fists clenched and face full of righteous fury.
“And…what? You just suddenly decided she deserved to have her house broken into? I have younger siblings who live there! Who have never done anything wrong to me!” Zoey crossed her arms.
“That’s why we waited until they weren’t home. And it wasn’t all of a sudden. We heard that call the other day. Funny how she only remembers to call you when she wants something from you.”
“So you break into her house and take nothing? Not! That I’m saying you should have taken anything!” Zoey rushed to clarify.
“We didn’t take nothing,” Rumi mumbled, still sitting on the bed.
Zoey stared at her. “What did you take?” she asked slowly.
Rumi’s eyes flitted to Mira’s, and she nodded. Mira nodded back. Zoey watched with growing apprehension, as the dancer walked over to the closet, and pulled out a large covered box. She placed it on the bed with surprising care.
“What’s in the box?” Zoey asked, nervous.
“Open it,” Mira urged.
Zoey did, and was stunned by what was inside.
Several of her childhood possessions, left behind when she ran away to Korea, sat in the box. Posters (even ones of the Sunlight Sisters that Zoey used to practice kissing on), journals, sketchbooks, stuffed animals, even some old clothes and accessories. Trophies for competitions Zoey had won, and ones she hadn’t, wrapped up delicately so as to not break on the trip back from Burbank, presumably. Some old photos of her, and even an old TMNT watch thats battery had died and Zoey had never bothered replacing.
She inspected the items with awe, both at the fact they were now permanently in her possession, and at the act of love it had taken for them to arrive here. “You guys,” she cooed, overcome with emotion. “But I don’t understand. They said nothing was taken.”
“Yeah, well,” Mira started, clearly still angry but missing some of the earlier fire, “They didn’t notice this stuff because they suck. But we already knew that.”
Zoey laughed, her voice wet. “What am I gonna do with you two?”
“Love us forever?” Rumi suggested, a tad bit hopeful.
Zoey snorted, and cupped her cheek with her hand. She reached out to Mira, who bent over so she could lean her face into the other. “I was already planning to do that.” She placed two soft kisses on both of their lips.
They smiled, content they’d gotten away with it-
“But next time you do something like this,” Zoey said firmly, “Ask me first. Got it?”
They nodded frantically.
mira is waiting for her daughters (who are maybe around 8 or 9) to get out of school one day when she overhears some other parents talking about a stink bomb that went off in another kids locker, and they cant find any evidence whatsoever as to who couldve done it. and mira, knowing her own history of committing these sorts of acts without a trace of evidence (on a much grander scale and with a partner, of course), immediately goes
later that night, after having discussed it w her wives, they come to the conclusion that it must have been jihae, whos the cleverest and most outwardly vindictive of her sisters (theyve had to have a couple discussions w her about getting revenge on her sisters for something before). aeri is far too well behaved and hani has already begun showing more…”Terrifying”…tendencies, particularly when her sisters take her snacks from her, and when one boy insulted one of them in front of her.
they ask jihae about it later but she vehemently denies it and is obviously extremely offended at the suggestion, even after her parents basically imply they’ll forget all about it if she was trying to get revenge for one of her sisters. eventually she storms out and they’re all not exactly happy with how that went
the next day, they get called to the school.
“there’s been an incident involving one of your daughters hitting another student who grabbed one of your other daughters.”
they come in expecting to see aeri (who’s the oldest and very protective), but instead they see jihae, who’s cracking her knuckles menacingly at another student who’s sitting with a black eye.
a lot of emotions run through them at that moment. guilt that they accused jihae of something she didnt do. pride at her for defending her sister. anger that their daughter is getting in trouble for protecting her sister (they later find out it was hani).
but mostly shock, with twinges of some horror. their 8-9 year old daughter, who broke her mother’s finger when she was only 2 months old, is now going around throwing punches. their oldest daughter (same age, but older by 2 hours), who is bright and smiley and always does what she’s told and refuses to kill a fly, is a mastermind who went behind their back to either buy or, perhaps even more horrifying, make her own stink bomb, set it up and off without leaving behind evidence, and barely bat an eye or looked even remotely guilty about what she’d done
they need a long time to process that once they get home
