In 2012, I was sent by my previous job to Central America as a vintage picker to assess a couple of sorting factories, including that of Megapaca- a well-known thrift store in this part of the world. My girlfriend from Holland, Sanne (who has nothing like this where she's from) and I (mainly curious about what their retail store was like) went up to the Megapaca outlet on the weekend to check out all the hype. Verdict: All North American brands and all very, very cheap... And tempting. Not really intending to buy anything, I just couldn't resist splurging 75 Quetzales ($12 CAD) when I found a tobacco-coloured, leather pair of tie-up booties with leather soles, in my size, that actually fit my wide feet!
