Girl is a name. There are a lot of people named Girl. Just like there are a lot of people named Violet and a lot of people named Emmy. 

Girl hasn’t met anyone else who shares his name, but he’s sure they’re out there. 

People call him “the boy named Girl” a lot. They think it’s cool or weird or interesting. He doesn’t know what’s interesting about it. He didn’t choose to be a boy and he didn’t choose to be named Girl. Violet didn’t choose to be a boy and didn’t choose to be named Violet either, but people don’t say anything about him. 

One day Girl will change his name and no one will think it’s cool or weird or interesting. And one day he will meet someone else named Girl, who chose that name herself. And one day that Girl will change her name, too. And he’ll look back and realize Girl was never much of a name at all. And maybe she will feel the same way. 

But for now Girl is a name. There are a lot of people named Girl. And he is one of them.
