Saturday morning long run and coffee date with my favorite training partner this morning! The first two miles or so were chilly (55 degrees!) and the rest was beautiful. I’m ready to love my runs again.

Hot, humid, sweaty progressive run tonight with my running group! Plus lots and lots of hills, which was a big part of these pacing issues- this was way slower than I wanted it to be. I'm so sweaty and gross, and I wasn't sure I was going to make that last mile, but I'm glad I did! This was one of those plug in the headphones and run the stress out days- between family drama and standardized testing, I'm tapped out. Came home and got grouched at by my father in law, and now I am 110% done with today. May: 46/60 2016: 226 miles I definitely didn't hit the mileage that I wanted for May, but we also had exceptionally awful weather, and I didn't have any really long runs since I'm not training for anything. I would have liked to have hit at least 50 miles this month, but I'm not motivated enough to go back out in the humidity. Oh well.
Tonight's 4 mi run was...not great. There wasn't much I can point to that was objectively wrong, but I never really settled into it, and my splits were all over the place. I definitely didn't hydrate enough, and it was finally a little warmer today- hence the shorts. I haven't really run in shorts much this year, and had kind of forgotten how self conscious I am about how I look when I do. Ugh. All that aside, I had a fantastic conversation with my running buddy, who is also a teacher, and is wonderful. Every run is not going to be great, and that's okay. I got home and had clean-out-the-fridge dinner, because I needed to finish the strawberries and almond milk. ☺️ Oh! I'm also looking for a half to run this fall. I'm already signed up for the Marine Corps 10k in October, and I've been tossing around the Prince William County Half in September. The issues, though, are that it's a brand new race this year, and I know the course- it kind of sucks. It's not bad to run, but there are a ton of little detours and turnarounds, and long hills. Anyone have suggestions? VA Beach is on the table, and so is Richmond.... May: 31/60 mi 2016: 211 mi
Short track run tonight- 1x1600, 2x800, 2x400. The first mile was quick (9:15!) but I slowed down a bit after because I wasn't feeling great. My asthma has been acting up from allergies and the nasty cough I can't shake, and I've been eating way too much junk this week. Making an effort to eat more real food, like these crazy good chocolate PB overnight oats. It was still great to get out tonight though, especially since we got it in right between two big storms!
Today was so good. Stayed in bed until noon, relaxing and reading while Nick slept in, then got in a quick three miles just to stretch out before the GW Parkway Classic tomorrow morning. Then I got to have coffee and lunch with my best friend (featuring a Lucky Charms latte...my coffee came with cereal and it was glorious). And finished the night with a date night- we had planned to do dinner and a movie, but decided to scrap the movie and rent one instead. And obviously all the best date nights end at what my sissy and I used to call the Dairy Fairy (weirdly, it was the same DQ we used to go to growing up!).
Ran a fun and easy 5k this morning with some of my favorite coworkers! It was gorgeous and perfect, and super low stress. Gearing up now for the Parkway Classic next weekend!
Got up and out this morning for six and a half super hilly but gorgeous miles in Richmond. MapMyRun somehow didn't track about half of that, and my Garmin had trouble picking up a signal, but I was definitely coming in around 10:00-10:30 miles, so I'll take it! Felt great right up to the last quarter mile when my knee gave me a little trouble, but it seems to be better now. Love the views of the James River here, and it was so nice to get in a long run somewhere new!
Absolutely perfect run this afternoon, minus one stop for inhaler. I PRed my 5k time (my goal was under 35 min, but oh well) and got to try my compression socks for the first time. I can definitely feel the difference in them, and I really like it.
