My finisher’s medal from the @lifetimeae @nyctriathlon #virtualduathlon came in today’s mail. I ended placing 20th out of 60 in my age group in 2:33. Not bad but lots of room for improvement. Hopefully next year this is back to being a live in-person event, because as a #ltemployee I have a guaranteed entry spot for having completed this year’s virtual one. Despite the pandemic and the flood of cancellations I still was able to check off the box of getting at least one multisport event done this year. After a disappointing workout Friday I needed a good bounce back today and I got it. Three weeks ago I had the same @mcmillanrunning #10K “fitness check” as today on the schedule. I did that run and also got credit that day for completing the @nyctriathlon as a #10k run was leg 3 of the #virtualduathlon. But the conditions were brutal with a heat index over 100°. I struggled to a 50:08 that day, for sure the slowest road 10K I have ever run. I knew I could do better than that today, although it wasn’t much cooler. I started by trying to just dial in a pace that felt smooth and maintainable for the whole distance. So humid. Not a good day to forget to wear #bodyglide. The plan was to do a #fastfinishlongrun today but between the weather and two days worth of mental stress to unpack from work, I just didn’t have that in me today. I was happy to log 10+ miles and finish out the week on the right note. On to next week where I will take on both the #dcroadrunners1milechallenge and @nyctriathlon #virtualduathlon.
