As we scout potential new wineries for import, we had our eye on Alsace as a target. We did some advanced research and found a family-run winery in the small town of Obernai we thought was “our kind” of place: committed to terroir; making wine the old way; and protective of the land. Robert Blanck is one of those winemakers. We tasted through almost their entire collection and found gems everywhere - Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling of course, Cremant d’Alsace. A tour of the cellar showed no new oak, no stainless steel, no 225 liter barrels. All wines - red and white - are aged in giant oak barrels, the smallest 50 hectoliters and the largest 105 hectoliters. Each giant barrel held as much wine as 25 to 50 normal US wine barrels. None of the barrels was newer than 100 years old and the oldest was from 1725 and is currently being used to age Gewurtztraminer. We are exploring how to work with this family/owner winery. It would be a privilege to be the first to being their wines to the US after their nearly 300 years making estate wines in Alsace. ———————————————— #alsace #visitalsace #visitalsace🇫🇷 #obernai #visitobernai #robertblanck #robertblanckwinery #winesofalsace #riesling #rieslinglover #sylvaner #gewurtztraminer #pinotblanc #pinotgris #pinotnoir #cremantdalsace (at Vins d'Alsace Robert Blanck) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4FmXS0Hu3q/?igshid=1xse0yecui9dq
