That does sound exciting! I know what you mean, spending it all on your work; I always end up doing the same thing. [He smiles back at him; Johnny’s smiles are infectious!] Ehhh…I mean, I could say I was ready for work, but that would be a lie. If I had it my way, I would still be asleep. [He admits this a bit sheepishly, rubbing a hand behind his head.]
Really?
[Johnny scratches the back of his neck, eyebrows raised high. He’s met a lot of people out in Oak Tree that claim not to be morning people - but to be honest, he’s still a little surprised by it every time he hears it. He was used to being the odd-man-out in the city, where it was expected you’d stay up late-- but to be the odd-man-out in a country farming town feels even stranger.]
I wouldn’t have thought that, Raeger! I totally had you pegged as a morning person. [Grins.] You’re so clean cut and well put together! I got up a good five hours ago and you’re still more put together than I am!
Morning: What my character would say if they woke up in bed next to yours.
Popuri rolled over onto her side, pulling the covers over her head. The woman had no idea what time it was, but she didn’t care. All she wanted to do was sleep because of how terribly exhausted she was from the night before. However just as she was snuggling up to what she thought was a pillow, she realized that it wasn’t a pillow. Scarlet eyes opened and she sat up in the unfamiliar bed.
The red covers had been lifted and pulled away from the person next to her and Popuri covered her mouth. She wanted to scream, but she held it inside. For one, the handsome man looked far too peaceful to disturb. And two, she wanted to figure out what exactly happened. The clothing she wore was not her own, but a white, button down shirt that was far too big for her. Just what had happened, exactly?
Looking around the room, she quickly realized that they were in Raeger’s home above from the restaurant. Her vision was blurred, so she must have taken her contacts out before falling asleep. There was no way that something had happened if she took the time to remove those. Still, why was it so hard to remember? Looking over to the nightstand beside the bed, she noticed her black frames and picked them up. So she had worn her glasses instead?
At least after putting them on, she could see farther than the edge of the bed. “Oh,” she murmured, noticing the cake boxes on the nearby table. Ohhhhh! The pieces started fitting together now and and pink lips spread out into a smile. The night before, Raeger had called her after having made some new cakes. Having the biggest sweet tooth as always, the pinkette rushed right over without putting in her contacts again.
Once she had eaten all the cakes, the motivation to go all the way back home was out the window. The pinkette and brunet had stayed up talking about the sweet treats and must have passed out from a definite food coma. Not a bad way to pass out, Popuri must admit. Looking back at Raeger’s peaceful (and don’t forget handsome) sleeping face, she removed her glasses and placed them back on the nightstand.
She gently pulled the covers back over them, lying down in the process. It would be a waste to have this end, she thought, closing her eyes once again. Even though he certainly wasn’t a pillow, she snuggled up to him and drifted back to sleep. Dreaming of cakes, laughter, and a super cute chef ♥
((I hope you're still doing that drabble meme!! Choose Night, Scare, or Morning!! Whatever appeals to you.))
{ Yes yes ♥ I’ll do Night since you said that one first but deffs do more if you’d like hehe. }
Night: For the two am text/call
It was late, sure, but that didn't stop Kamil from picking up the phone and dialing Raegar’s number. His finger hovered above the last digit in a final moment of clarity, but his bad judgement won as he pressed down the button and held the phone to his ear.
Ringing... Ringing... Pick up - oh goddess what if he’s asleep -- of course he’d be asleep it’s two in the morning what are you do-- click.
The other man’s voice was groggy but sincere - he seemed worried that Kamil had called so late, and the guilt slowly built up in his stomach. “Raegar... I’m so sorry, but can you talk?” Of course Raegar said yes, he had always been kind to Kamil since the day he set foot in Oak Tree town, and he had always offered his help to the florist no matter what.... including a 2am call.
And then it all just spilled out, he told Ragear everything, his fears and his anxiety about his career and choices - that he picked something ridiculous, and even though his parents had said they supported their son, could they really? Or were they just saving face? His words and problems gushed out like a waterfall of emotion, and Ragear made sure to reassure him whenever he could fit in a few words.
Eventually the sentences blurred together, words slurred into inaudible gibberish as he slowly fell unconscious. Raegar had called out a few times to see if Kamil was still on the line, but the young florist had easily fallen asleep, phone in hand and a wide smile on his face.
[Raeger can’t help but snort at the little salute, and stands up straight from behind the counter. His uniform is tidy, although his cheek has a little smudge of flower on it; he had just been putting away some ingredients for the day.] At ease, cadet. [He plays along, casting a smile as he ruffles around in the small area below the cash register.]
Here, it isn’t much, but we want to people to know you’re working here. [Hands Johnny an apron not much unlike his own. It’s made of the same material, but the cut is different, and it isn’t quite as long.]
[Laughs, lowering his hand from the salute and closing the door behind him. he crosses to the restaurant’s counter, drifting toward his customary seat on one of the stools - despite the fact he isn’t intending to order anything. It’s just a force of habit by now, and he intends to hang out for a little bit first, any way-- though he pauses before sitting down, accepting the apron Raeger hands over with a curious blink.]
Oh, yeah? [He unfolds the apron and sets to work tying it around his waist - taking a few steps backwards and away from the counter so the chef can see his progress. After a few seconds of fiddling he finishes, turning this way and that to observe himself in it.] How’s it look? Professional enough?
She didn’t have to work that day and spring time was in full swing. The sky was clear, birds were singing, and Mineral Town was alive with chatter and laughter. A lot of this laughter came from the children that lived in the small town-- this included Popuri, of course. Playing during the winter was fun and all, but it wasn’t safe enough because of all the ice and slush to play one of the group’s favorite games.
Blindfolded hide and go seek! Popuri was it-- she usually was because she thought it was fun-- and she waited in a bush with her eyes covered with a cloth she took from Rick. The point of the game was for the seeker to sit and wait for the other players to come running through to give away their position. The seeker would have to rely on their other senses to be able to find the other players and win the game.
Popuri was getting pretty good at this game since they had made it up. Even most of the people in town was well aware of the return of this game. They had to play it in town so that they wouldn’t get hurt and they were fine with that. It made the game more challenging, after all! If you listened clearly enough, you could tell who was walking past.
It took the pinkette a little while to master the sound of different footsteps, but after nearly tackling a good majority of her friends, she was starting to get the hang of it! (Plus, it helped that most people remembered to stay out of the way of said seeker.) Hearing the soft footsteps of someone unknown to her, she thought maybe it was May or Stu putting on someone else’s shoes to trick her again.
“Gotcha!” Popuri shouted, jumping out from her hiding place and wrapping her hands around the player, tackling them to the ground. “And you thought you could trick me! Nice try... Stu? May?” Popuri stiffened up, sitting up on the person she had tackled. Still blindfolded, she patted her hands from the person’s stomach, to their chest, then to their face to squish their cheeks. This isn’t one of the kids!!!
Flustered, she recoiled her hands and scrambled off and away from the unknown body. In the process of taking off her blindfold, she felt her other hand crush something that sounded oh so familiar to her. Uh oh... As her eyes adjusted to the brightness, scarlet eyes stared at the stranger in front of her on the ground. A guy! A cute guy!! Oh Goddess no what have I done?! “Um--!!” Her eyes went to what she had crushed under the weight of her hand and saw that it was indeed a bag full of a carton of eggs.
In the distance, she could hear the laughter of her friends and turned towards them with a red face. They noticed and the two ran off quickly, still holding their stomachs from laughing too hard. “Oh you two are so getting it later on!! Don’t think I’m gonna forget!!” Popuri huffed, only then remembering the cute guy she had practically attacked! “I’M SO, SO SORRY!” She blurted out, nervous and guilty for knocking his groceries everywhere.
Johnny had always been something of an early riser - even before his new job had required it of him. He’d always had trouble sleeping while the sun was up, and the moment light trickled in from between the curtains he was ready to be out in it. Especially so now that being out in the sun meant also being out in the fresh country air, doing work that he loved.
Today was an especially easy day to wake up for, however-- his excited anticipation kicked in the moment his eyes snapped open. Today was Wednesday, his calendar confirmed - the day that he’d challenged Raegar to a race. If he could get his chores down and be in town by the time Raegar left the house, he’d be the proud winner of a baked good of his choosing--. and there were a fair few gourmet baked goods that he’d sorely been missing out on since having the luxury of going to bakeries in the city.
With food on the mind (and a quick, almost scarfed down breakfast made of leftovers from the fridge), Johnny hit the fields. The sun had barely risen past dawn, and the cool mountain air chilled his skin as he worked as quickly as he could. The animals first, of course-- food and a good brushing for Hanako and feed for the chickens, each of them squawking indignantly as Johnny gave them a brief pet and a coo of “Good morning!” before running off to the next of his chores.
He was making good time by his estimation, especially as he rounded the last row of his crops. At this rate he’d probably be set to leave for town in twenty minutes, if he could swing it-- maybe even ten. Baked goods danced in his mind as he shuffled, watered, shuffled, eyed his watch. Almost... almost...!
Raeger heard the familiar voice and sighed, a small smile on his face as he gathered his things. Of course, the voice began to get more insistent, and the man trot down the stairs, greeting the young farmer with a small wave.
“Good morning, Johnny. It looks like there’s something you need?”
Johnny lit up as the other man appeared at the top of the stairs, happy to not have been calling up the stairs to someone who wasn’t at home. He returned the wave with a small wave of his own, before shifting his rucksack on his shoulder and opening it while still wearing it.
“Good morning! It’s not so much something I need as it is I wanted to catch you before the restaurant opened. You’re usually so busy when you’re working, and I feel bad interrupting-- so I wanted to give you this before you opened for the day.”
He paused for a moment, his arm still halfway in the bag, as though nervous to produce the gift now that he was faced with the decision of actually doing so. “Um, that is-- if you want it? You might not want it, actually. Feel free to tell me to get lost, alright?”
Lillie traced a finger along the edges of the silverware on the table and hummed a song as she watched the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. It was a busy day. The tables were full and people were waiting to be seated, hopeful that they could get in before the lunch hour was over.
It was admirable, what Reager had going on here. He was an excellent chef--the reason why she tried to squeeze her lunch hours here whenever she had the chance. But she had the day off today and was wondering if she could be productive somewhere, maybe after lunch...
She craned her neck curiously to look for Reager, wondering how he was holding up during such a busy lunch hour. Surely it must be hard, performing so many roles at the restaurant the way he did...
