Shapes || Lillie and Life

“It is! The WInter SEemed so long and TERRible this year. I am so glad that it FINally went away.” WIthout hesitating like he usually did, Life took her hand and shook it. “I am Life. I come from HEARTFlame ISland. I am not MOving in, but VISIting to see the FARmers that live here.” Of course, making friends were always a plus. He was glad to see his own group of friends increasing in size whenever he went to a new place.

Lillie blinked a bit at the stranger’s odd way of speaking, but chose not to comment on it. She was pleased though at the way he shook her hand immediately. How polite! “Oh, I am too. The sunshine is really nice, after all. It’s much more fun to find ways to cool down than stay warm!”

“That’s an odd name...Oh! But it’s a nice one.” She quickly added the last bit after realizing what she said could be misconstrued. “The farmers here are quite kind, so that’s a good reason to visit! Amongst a lot of great things about this town. Although... I’ve never been to Heartflame Island before...”

Hot and Cold || Lillie&Angela

[ Angela hummed a happy but soft tune as she finished gathering various types of medical forms that needed organizing. Glancing up to see Marian waving at her, she waved back and straightened the papers as best she could. Clinic hours were over but a part of her wanted to stay late and finish the filing, while the other part of her knew that Lillie would likely tease her about it. ]

[ With a heavy sigh, she stowed the papers into a manila folder and placed it back in the cabinet, with a sticky note on the front saying that it would be completed first thing tomorrow. Not so much for Marian’s knowledge as it was for her own. Locking the clinic doors behind her, Angela watched as people continued to spill in and out of the Guild even at this late hour.]

[Standing in a quieter section of the Guild, she waited for her dear friend Lillie to show up. There was nothing better than a talk with her after a long day, in fact, Angela made it a point to speak to Lillie everyday. It was a small break in her demanding routine and it always left her in a positive mood.]

[ Lillie loves every moment of her work, she really did. After all, she put a lot of effort into learning as much as she could in order to become a meteorologist. She had to work hard to get where she was now, considering she didn’t originally intend to go into this line of work. ]

[ But her favorite part of the day is returning to Oak Tree Town, her always-home and where her family and friends were. She skips through the Trade Depot back into town, admiring the slow setting of the sun and the warm tones it cast across the autumn toned bricks. ]

[ As someone leaves the Guild, she holds the door open for them before heading to lower area near the clinic’s entrance. Of course, her friend is there, as she usually is this time of day now that they’ve begun working in different fields. Still, Lillie loved to catch up with Angela whenever she could. ]

Angela! Good evening! [ Rushes up to her. ] How was your day at the clinic? No one too hurt or overworked, I hope? [ Smiles. ]

Spare Hands || Raeger & Lillie

Reager returned soon after putting the mess away and serving someone their food that had just come out of the oven. He felt bad for leaving his friend hanging in the middle of a conversation, but he had things to attend to here.

“Sorry about that.” He voiced his thoughts. “We’re a little busy today. Not super busy, but busy enough.” Reager gave a small chuckle. “Have you figured out what you want yet?”  His friends who came here didn’t usually vary on what they ordered or wanted, but he liked to give them the option anyway; if he just assumed, that would be super rude. He took this seriously; from friendship to business.

As Raeger returned to her table, she gave him a little wave and a smile to reassure him that she didn’t mind him leaving mid-conversation. After all, these were business hours and she understood professionalism was important. It was one of the reasons why she liked being around Raeger.

As she asked her what she wanted to order, she lifted the menu up to her face in order to cover the wide smile that was spreading across her face. The determined glint in her eyes, however...

“Actually, Raeger. How about I help out a bit around here? At least until the rush is over,” she said, her voice quickening at the prospect of helping out a bit. “I could probably take some orders back for you, just so you don’t have to run back and forth from the kitchen... Or wash dishes.” She definitely knew how to do that.

Setting down the menu, she looked up at him with a bright smile. “What do you think?”

Weather or not it’s normal... || Forte & Lillie

       Forte… wasn’t exactly sure how to answer her question. She never needed to explain how the weather worked in town and around the nearby areas. It never seemed odd enough to her that she’d, well, question it.         “In the town, the weather changes with the seasons. It’s winter now, so it’s cold. Outside of the town…” The knight looked around the area, trying to figure out what she could say. “Well, it’s always been warm out here. All around the town— up to Autumn Road, it’s been in this constant state of summer,” she explained. The confusion on the other woman’s face was still evident however, so Forte continued. “I’m not… really sure how to explain how or why it does it. It just um, does.”         Wording it that way, even she was beginning to see the silliness in the way this weather worked. But there were other areas that were in a constant state of either Autumn, Winter or Spring, so having this area as Summer brought some sense to her. Four different areas, four different seasons. The town just… didn’t cater to that. “Is this that unusual for you to see?” Forte asked.

Lillie nodded. It wasn’t because she understood what the woman was telling her, no nothing like that. It was just a conditioned response, the kind of thing that you do when you're stuck thinking about something very difficult someone has told you and your body goes on auto-pilot. Lillie was on auto-pilot.

“All right...” She tilted her head and pressed her lips against her right thumbnail. “So... the town is whatever season it is and then outside of the town it’s summer. Up until a point in which it becomes the season it always is?” It was definitely a strange story of seasons this knight was telling her... but what choice did she have to believe it.

“Yes,” Lillie said, forcing her voice not to crack and her face to keep a straight smile. “It’s erm...Very unusual. I’m a weather forecaster, you see and... I don’t really come by this very often! Oh, I did know this part of the world was supposed to be different from my part of it but I didn’t expect anything like this... A little summer microclimate...” She sighed and smiled at the stranger. “Sorry about that! I was just a little surprised and confused is all...”

Off Day || Lillie & Minori

The weather was starting to get warmer, which meant more crops and flowers for the farmer to plant and harvest. Minori had planned to spend the day working on the farm, planting some more crop seeds. But at least it wasn’t too much work!

As Minori stood up and started walking over to another area a bit farther away, something in the distance caught her eye. Obviously, it looked like a person from the distance, but getting closer she noticed it was- Lillie?! Barely able to contain her excitement, she started to walk a bit faster to where Lillie was.

“Lillie!” She called out, running up behind the other brunette. “Hey, Lillie! I haven’t seen you in awhile! How are you? What are you-” Before she could finish saying  the next twenty questions, Minori found her eyes looking down at the flower garden. “Oh, you looking at the flowers?”

Lillie looked up quickly upon hearing her name and gave Minori an equally quick little wave--she didn’t really have time considering Minori was there before she even had a chance to turn around and immediately bombarded her with questions.

She couldn’t help but laugh amicably at Minori’s energy. “I know! It’s been a while since I’ve really had time to stop by--” She glanced at flowers again when they were mentioned and nodded. “Yes! Oh, they’re very pretty Minori. I was on my way to see you and they distracted me...” She poked at a flower petal fondly before returning her attention to the other girl.

“How long have you been working on a flower garden? Same time as the farm? Is that what you were going to do today?” Suddenly she was the one with the many questions, and a bright smile to go with them.

Shapes || Lillie and Life

His plans to see Iris today were thrown out the window when he saw she was busy with someone else. He wasn’t sure if she would mind him interrupting her and she did seem busy. Life thought it would be better if he wandered around town and the area around it for a while. He couldn’t be more happier about his decision. Everything about it was simply wonderful and it made him feel warm just being there.

Life spread his arms wide and took in a deep breath. Somehow, the air just seemed better here, too. He couldn’t explain it, but it seemed… cleaner.

Bringing him down to planet Earth, he noticed the girl, relaxing in the grass without a care in the world. With his plans foiled for now, it didn’t hurt to make a new friend today. Life hurried to where the girl was, sliding down to sit next to her. Fixing his position, he tucked his legs underneath him and moved to face her better. “Hello! You sure look PEACeful Today.”

The breeze was lulling her to sleep before she realized it, but it was also the change in the breeze that woke her back up. More specifically, the change in direction as someone sat by down her and the soft shake of the ground that came with the movement. Lillie opened one eye to examine the stranger and smiled at his greeting. Even if the stranger did seem to speak a little strangely, she didn’t mind that.

“Hello there!” She exclaimed as she sat back up again, brushing her back off from stray pieces of dead grass. “Oh yes! It’s nice to get some sun again, after the winter.” Lillie smiled and held out her hand. “I’m Lillie, by the way. Are you new to town?”

Weather or not it’s normal... || Forte & Lillie

       This woman was definitely a first time visitor to Selphia. Tourists never really noticed it during the Spring or Summer, but when they came during the Autumn and Winter seasons, there was a highly noticeable change that occurred upon entering the town and leaving to the plains just outside the gate. A change that this woman was now experiencing herself— perhaps for the first time, as it seemed. 

       In fact, this was the first time she’d ever received a reaction from someone about the changing temperatures. The reaction was rather… strange, to say in the least.

       “Um…” The cool air around her lips turned to a small streak of steam as she let out a small hum. Deciding to follow the woman, Forte walked towards the town gate. As she stepped through, the temperature began to warm up. The farther away she walked away from the gate, the warmer it got. Soon, the change was enough that she unwrapped her scarf, exposing her neck but letting it hang around her shoulders. 

       “Mm. Yes, the temperature is changing. The plains around here are constantly in summer weather, so as you leave town during this time it’ll become warmer the farther you walk away,” Forte explained, She turned to face the woman as she rubbed the back of her neck. “It’s… nothing really new.”

Lillie watched expectantly as the armored woman followed her outside the gate. She nodded enthusiastically when the woman unraveled her scarf in response to the weather. Yes. Exactly. Isn’t it strange? How is that?

Those were the things she would have said, had the woman not spoken up to explain the weather to her. Lillie blinked and her brows furrowed as she listened to the questions she had be answered. Very simply and in a way that didn’t quite make sense to her. “Always summer weather?” She asked, looking over the woman’s shoulder at the gate.

“But...” She glanced back at the woman, a confused frown settling on her face. “If that’s true, how is it that it’s still cold inside there? And is it--summer weather all around the town then?” It was clear that there was some truth to what she was being told, but she couldn’t wrap her head exactly as to how.

“I’m glad to hear that it’ll be clearing up soon. I had people coming in to find shelter from the rain, and some of them just seemed so wet and cold I couldn’t help but give them some hot chocolate on the house. I think it’ll be better for everyone once it clears up.” Reager responded, filling up the water cup that was placed on all the tables.

Lillie was bright and cheerful, which made him smile; with such busy schedules, it was nice to have one of his friends come by and give him a little pick me up, even if it was only a simple conversation. 

“I’ve been doing alright. I wish I had a little more time to come visit you guys, though. I hope things slow down enough where I can do that.” he told her, and then excused himself for a moment to go clean up a mess someone had made only a few feet away. The key to a successful business was quality service.

“That’s sweet of you!” Lillie exclaimed, though she was not surprised that Reager would do something like that. It just seemed like it would be in his nature. “I’m sure that got them all warmed up in no time. It’s a shame the weather patterns can change so suddenly...”

She took a small sip from the glass that Reager poured for her and took that quick moment to glance around the restaurant again. “Oh, I do know what you mean... It’s nice to be able to spend time with friends.” Something clicked in her head and she looked up at him with a hopeful smile on her face, only to see him excuse himself to clean up a mess at another table.

Which was fine by her, it was his business and he needed to run it after all. She waited for him to return with a small smile on her face. Yes, if she could convince him of this, it would be good. It looked like he needed the help, after all.

Off Day || Lillie & Minori

Most her days were spent at work. And most of the week was busy because of it, to the point where she only spent her evenings and weekends back in town. So when she did get a day off, she liked to use it to roam around town to meet with friends. Since it had been a while since she had seen Minori, so she thought she would stop by and say hello.

But on her way to Minori’s place, Lillie became distracted by the lovely flower garden by the farm. She assumed it belonged to Minori, judging by how close it was to the farm. Lillie let a gentle hand run over the stem of a flower and admired the beautiful colors and variety of the blossoms. She would simply have to compliment Minori on her work as soon as she saw her.

Weather or not it’s normal... || Forte & Lillie

       The local town dragon knight stood still around the town square, her eyes observing what was going on near the town gate. A woman was pacing back and forth, going from inside the town to outside of it, then back in again. It’d been happening for a good minute or so and Forte wasn’t sure whether to consider the act suspicious, of someone who might be confused or what. Sure, people stopped at the town gate often, but it was usually to look around the town, outside the town, or to talk with someone else who was also around that area. Not to… do whatever it was she was doing. Lightly tightening the scarf around her neck just a bit to get some extra warmth, she walked up towards the woman. 

       With every step she took, the snow crunched under her heavy armor footwear. Surprisingly the noise didn’t alert the other woman to her presence — perhaps she was deep in thought— so the knight cleared her throat once she was a few feet away. “Excuse me,” Forte called out. “You’ve been pacing around the gate for a little bit now. Might I ask what it is you are doing?”

The voice of another woman caught her attention and Lillie whirled around towards the source of the voice. She jolted a bit at the figure that presented herself--she was completely dressed in armor and...did seem prepared for winter weather. Precisely what was on that side of the gate.

Lillie forgot her initial impression of the woman and marched through the gate towards her, immediately rubbing her arms for warmth as the sudden temperature drop startled her senses. “Ma’am! You noticed it too, right?” She asked, an intense stare moving from the woman to outside the gate again. “I don’t have a thermometer on me right now, but I’m pretty sure it’s a significant temperature difference! I can feel it for myself. Can’t you?” She asked as she gestured at the woman’s scarf.

As if that was answer enough, she quickly turned around again and rushed through the gate. Lillie placed her hands on her hips when, yes, the temperature change hit her and definitely was there. She looked over her shoulder as the woman, now a witness to this phenomenon. “See?”

Spare Hands || Reager & Lillie

It was hard. But Reager dealt with it. Nothing was more satisfying than seeing the smiling faces of his customers, and laying down after work for a night’s sleep. Being tired only made sleep better, and Reager tried to look on the bright side of things.

He moved like an oiled machine; the restaurant had been busier than this before, so this was next to nothing, and he had a pleasant smile and a menu for everyone. Just as he was doing his rounds around the tables to make sure everyone was satisfied, he was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face.

Reager gave her a more genuine smile than the one he gave others, and handed her a menu even though he knew by now she wouldn’t really need it.

“Good afternoon Lillie! How’s the forcast looking?” he lightly joked, glad to have at least a small break to speak with his friend.

When Lillie finally spotted Reager, he was heading over to her table. She smiled warmly as he brought her a menu, which Lillie opened in front of her as if she didn’t already have a solid idea of what she wanted. But it was nice to have options anyway.

For now, she ignored said options and looked up at Reager with a bright smile. “Good afternoon, Reager!” Though she understood him to be joking when he asked her about the weather, it was actually a topic she liked talking about. “Oh, better than it has been lately! The sun is going to be coming back soon, so it’s time to transition to some colder dishes.” Her smile widened. “Like ice cream.”

She pushed her hands together under her chin at the thought, the picture of content. “Oh! How are things going for you, Reager? Isn’t it a little bit busy here?” She asked as she glanced around the restaurant.

She loved clouds. They came with memories, of many days like this sitting under the skies with a coat wrapped around her as protection from the breeze. The phantom memory of her little sister by her side watching the clouds still grazed against her skin as she spotted a wisp that looked like what they, once, decided would have to closely an angora rabbit.

They came with imagination, too. Of brain bending to find something to call the vague cirrostratus, because not all clouds were created to clearly “be” something to the human understanding.

But mostly, they came with peace. Her down coat was pillow-like and the breeze was a comforting sigh that enveloped her into a Sunday sense of peace. Lillie’s eyelids drooped shut as she decided to rest them for a moment, looking to anyone like she were asleep, save for the hum of a children’s song.

Weather or not it’s normal... || Forte & Lillie

If there was one way to get an experienced, well-known weather forecaster stressed, it would be weather abnormalities. And normally, Lillie was equipped to emotionally deal with these abnormalities by learning from them. She would analyze what set the situation apart from the norm, under what circumstances it could happen again. And most importantly, she would come out from the situation with a better idea of how the weather worked (as hard of a goal as that could be at times.)

But this was something else.

Winter was fading to spring. That was a fact. The transitions of seasons was always gradual and this year was no exception. Except...for where Lillie was standing. Specifically, not for the gate of Selphia. She noticed it immediately after wandering outside of the gates by accident. The temperature increased rapidly as she wandered away from the town--in a way that just didn’t make sense. A microclimate? Maybe there was a heater somewhere nearby, for whatever strange reason that would cause you to put a heater outside.

She paced around the gate, a small frown growing on her face as she tried her absolute hardest to explain to herself the phenomenon she was experiencing.

Spare Hands || Reager & Lillie

Lillie traced a finger along the edges of the silverware on the table and hummed a song as she watched the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. It was a busy day. The tables were full and people were waiting to be seated, hopeful that they could get in before the lunch hour was over.

It was admirable, what Reager had going on here. He was an excellent chef--the reason why she tried to squeeze her lunch hours here whenever she had the chance. But she had the day off today and was wondering if she could be productive somewhere, maybe after lunch...

She craned her neck curiously to look for Reager, wondering how he was holding up during such a busy lunch hour. Surely it must be hard, performing so many roles at the restaurant the way he did...
