@vixiak a popular user a few years ago (idk if he's still around) decided that lassiet was incest because he personally headcanoned them as having a brother/sister-type relationship and decided that anyone who didn't agree with him was being purposefully obtuse to the 'real' canon.

he ran a psych october prompt thing, and in the second or third year, instituted a 'no problematic ships' rule, where what was and was not problematic was entirely arbitrated by him. instead of being a fandom event open to anyone, it turned into a content farm tuned to his tastes by banning shules, lassiet, and i believe carlowe. i sent him a message asking for clarification if this included polyships including those characters, because i do not personally consider a/b/c to be the same as a/b + b/c + a/c. he said yes. i thanked him for his time, said i wouldn't be participating, and unfollowed the event blog.

he proceeded to vagueblog about me and my partner, saying that because i shipped incest in another fandom, it was 'proof' that lassiet was also incest. the fact that i created maybe one or two tumblr posts for lassiet but wrote roughly 346k of shassie fic was something he completely ignored because it didn't fit his narrative that everything i touched was inherently problematic and evil.

he also had a problem that my partner and i shipped the ot4: shawn/gus/lassie/juliet. he said, in the same post where he said that bc i shipped lassiet it must be incest, that poly ships were for people who couldn't conceptualize friendship and had an unhealthy obsession with romantic relationships or some shit like that.

he turned the psych fandom that branched out from the shassie fandom into a hostile space by trying to make everyone else conform to his exact tastes with all dissenters being labeled "problematic".

so!

i might be interested in talking about the characters sometime, but i no longer have the love, passion, and drive it takes to create fic for them. he poisoned that well along with every person in the replies on that post who took his side, called me and my partner horrible things, and implied it would be better for everyone if i was dead :)

Dorian is the embodiment of ‘will fight anyone at any time.’ Especially if it involves people he cares about. Some soldiers trying to give Bull a hard time are in for a real treat.

There were suddenterrified screams from a nearby tent that had Bull bolting upward inhis bedroll.

“Shit, Dorian,wa…”

“Go back to sleep,Amatus. It’s nothing.” Dorian yawned, not bothering to rise, butstill taking the chance to pull more of the blankets towards him.

“That doesn’tsound like nothing. Someone’s under attack…” Bull started tomove only for Dorian to reach out and take hold of his wrist, causinghim to pause for a moment. When he looked over Dorian was smirkingand Bull raised an eyebrow.

“I suppose you’reright in some regard, but you shouldn’t worry yourself. It’s only afew soldiers. Probably found bugs in their tents, or caught sight ofa mirror.” Dorian had a glint in his eye that Bull recognized, butwith his own training couldn’t entirely squash the idea of at leastchecking.

He moved to poke hishead out of the tent just a bit, and like Dorian said, it was only ahandful of soldiers that were screaming and cursing about something.They were gesturing wildly towards their tents and the soldier onwatch duty, looked rather unimpressed. A few seconds later, the womancut them off with several sharp words, asking if they were going tohave her check under their bedrolls for monsters.

“Soldiers my arse.You lot are acting like scared children.” she snarled then paused.“I take that back. I’ve seen children behave braver.”

He recognized thesoldiers being raked over the coals, and soon other soldiers and eventhe inquisitor who had recently rejoined them, stumbled out to seewhat was going on.

Bull ducked backinto the tent, and saw Dorian raised up on one of his elbows, withone hand clamped over his mouth while he tried to swallow hischuckles.

“Dorian.” Bull’svoice was deadpan. “What did you do?”

“Me? Bull, I’mhurt. How could you think I had any hand in…” he cut himself offwith a barely muffled laughter as the inquisitor could be heardtaking over the verbal flaying. Cadash was often described as tenfeet of rage compressed into a four foot package.

“Dorian.” Bullsaid again as he came to sit back down.

Some of the humorfinally fell away as Dorian held Bull’s gaze.

“Did you think Iwouldn’t notice what they were doing to you?” he asked quietly.“Did you think I wouldn’t do anything?”

Bull stared atDorian for a minute as he processed everything. A week ago, there hadbeen a small fireworks show at one of the forts in celebration ofrecently found troops. Two hundred men and women were brought backalive, and their captors now resting in chains. It had been a causefor joy. Bull had excused himself from some of the displays however.Fireworks, especially in an area with thicker fog on the groundbelow, brought to much of Seheron to mind for him.

There were a fewsoldiers that had seen the way he’d flinched when the first explosionwas set off, and had found it funny. It was amusing to them that thisseemingly immovable and fearless qunari could still have a weakness.They had been assigned to the group Bull and Dorian were a part of,and took advantage of the fact the inquisitor and others of the innercircle weren’t present. Every so often they’d toss something into thefire that caused a small pop, or throw something not to far from Bullthat would  crackle just a bit. They wanted to see who could make himjump the highest.

If anything he wasglad his men weren’t there to notice and kick in someone’s teeth. Hecouldn’t count the number of times he’d had to keep a hand on theirshoulders to stop them from leaping over at someone who spat a smartcomment in his direction.

Seemed Dorianhad picked up that mantle on his own. Somewhere, he was sure his boyswere beaming with pride for the mage.

“Didn’t reallythink it was worth anyone noticing.” Bull finally said, scratchingat the stubble on his chin.

“Because theidiocy was directed at you for once instead of another?” Dorianscoffed. “I’ve seen you notice lesser offenses when someone elsebears the brunt. Or are you forgetting how you made that Templar wethimself after he accused me of being a blood mage and threw some ofmy things out in the rain? How about that time some of the newrecruits got cute and kept trying to take Dalish’s bow? They can’tlook at ham anymore. Then there was that incident with the harts anda particular noble who insisted on trying to distress Vivienne. Notto mention…”

“Alright,alright.” Bull cut him off. “I see where you’re going, but thiswas different.” It wasn’t worth causing an issue over, and hecouldn’t even say they were wasting resources, since they seemed tomake their own poppers. It was never done in a fight or a situationwhere discipline was called for. They had been smart. Only doing soafter camp had been set when everyone was a bit more relaxed, or Bullhad stepped away for one reason or another. He’d dealt with worse.

“How?”

“Because I canhandle it.”

Dorian snorted witha dramatic eye roll.

“And I’m quitecertain we could have handled our own issues as well. I didn’t needyou intervening on my behalf, but you did. Your men can take care ofthemselves, but Maker help the idiot who tries anything. Viviennecould easily have dealt with one simpering fool, but you wouldn’t lether do so alone. Why should no one defend your honor?”

Bull stared atDorian again, uncertain for a moment what to say. Instead he leanedover and kissed Dorian, pulling him closer. He could feel the mansmiling against his mouth as his arms wrapped around Bull’s neck.

“See? This is whatI meant when I said you were a sweet guy.”

“I’m not sweet,I’m a force of vengeance.” Dorian huffed. “I don’t think they’llbe troubling you again.”

“What exactly didyou do?”

Dorian grinned.

“A simple horrorshow is all. It seems they’re a bit on the superstitious side. Itwasn’t hard to make them believe their tent was haunted. And theirpacks. I’m guessing they’ll be asking someone to look and likelyforgot to hide their little toys.”

Just as he spoke, avoice boomed.

“What the fuck arethese?! You trying to blow the entire camp up? Ancestors you lot aresome of the stupidest pieces of work I’ve ever seen!” Cadash couldbe heard, along with some softer quaking voices. “Don’t give methat shit these aren’t dangerous, I’m a dwarf. You think I don’t knowmy way around explosives? These have black powder in them, you tits!As in the stuff you can’t just store however you like because in thisquantity it could catch your tent on fire? That happens, it couldspread and we might lose some actual valuable people.”

Bull raised aneyebrow.

“Didn’t realizethey had that much…”

“See? It’s a goodthing I intervened. I saved the entire camp, and likely theinquisition. I’ll accept nothing less than you ravishing me asgratitude.” Dorian tilted his chin upward with perfect smugness.

“Think I can dothat.” Bull leaned down to kiss him again, pressing him backagainst the bedroll. “Is this how it’s gonna be now? You’re gonnabe my hero, defending my honor at every turn?”

Dorian’s expressionwent soft as he reached up to cup Bull’s cheek.

“I believe so,Amatus.”

Bull leaned intoDorian’s touch, kissing the palm of his hand. He’d likely have tostop Dorian from going overboard and getting himself in trouble, butthe intention behind the declaration, made his chest swell withsomething.

If Dorian was goingto be his hero, he couldn’t have asked for a better one.
