The Rotten Apple is known to be a city with a rather dangerous environment. The same was true during the 90’s, but the crime rate was even bigger: two thousand two hundred and forty-five murders occurred in 1990.
Here both MC’s describe the struggle of living in Harlem, the neighborhood they grew in. It’s titled as Stress Rap as it describes the stress caused by the environment. In the end, Vast Aire points MCeeing as a way to break the cycle of violence.
Ironically or not, while the crime rate in New York dropped in the millenium, Harlem faces yet another social conflict – the problem of gentrification.
