unironically, the “oh, he’s so stupid, I can’t not fuck him” is one of my favorite pairing dynamics. genuinely always funny when a truly smart character looks at the dumbest member of the cast and goes “yep, that’s the one I want.”

Not that he hates it tho, he can now be the big spoon and he can annoy more his hubby, but it is a bit annoying sometimes hitting his head against door frames because he’s too distracted and forgets he is really tall

Pride Month: OK K.O.: We’re Captured!

Hello all you happy people! And welcome back to my pride month reviews, though i’ve had way more than I expected as I keep finding more as I review stuff because gayness is truly everywhere. Like magic, love or scabies. 

So today we got a quick one as we take a look at the start of something @jess-the-vampire​ has pointed out to me as oddly rare: A major male gay couple in children’s cartoons. Yeah while there are PLENTY of Gay Dads and it’s not like it’s absent, most of the majorly built up relationships these days, wether it’s through subtext or just plain text, are with two women. At the risk of soundling like a Seinfield character, not that there’s anything wrong with that: we’re getting more female leads, we’re getting to a point we can finally have openly queer main characters, ergo queer female leads are way more common.  As anyone whose been on this blog a whiel can tell you I ship Lumity, Rednid Weblena and Catradora, and do so because I genuinely enjoy the chemstry.  I just happen to agree we could also use some gay, bi, or pan men in relationships too that aren’t just the dads.  Voxmore however.. is easily the most  major exception. While both our characters today are both Men and dads, their also the main villians; They get whole episodes dedicated around them and their brewing  romance that’s all but outright stated, and likely only because in general the show had to stick to subtext presumibly because the excutives are butts and despite the creator of this show being one of the major creative forces on their most succesful and gay show, Steven Unvierse, CN still hasn’t quite gotten that pennis from russia, china and india aren’t comprable the stacks on stacks they make from the queer community. 

Back on point, the show spends it’s time building the two up the same way it does it’s other major relationships.. it’s one of the shows most adirmable qualiteis: it DOES take time for it’s ships and they feel organic as a result. It also helps most of the Voxmore centric episodes move the plot along in some way. So not only is their clearly a gay relationship between the shows most important villians but you can’t exactly cut around it if you want ot be a homphobic jackass. Though frankly i’m pretty sure most homophobic jackasses would’ve thrown up their hands and rage quit by the end of season 1. 

So yeah while I intended to cover the whoel Voxmore arc there in lied the problem:I coudln’t cover the whole arc because several parts of it overlap with other arcs which overlap with others which.. you get it. OK KO while having a LOT of standalone eps was built heavily on i’ts continuity so much like it’s sister show steven unvierse, it’s hard to take a piece out without the whole house of cards falling down. So my honest best best is to just review the entire show at some point season by season by season, probably breaking the first two seasons in half (Season 3 dosen’t require this due to being much shorter). BUt for now it couldn’t hurt to revisit how everyone’s faviorite disaster gays met, fell for each other, and got into a pie fight with some teenagers. So join me under the cut for that won’t ya?

So we open with Lord Boxman having captured our Bodegamen. How?

But that’s part of the fun of this one: we don’t know HOW he has our heroes tied up and suspended over boiling lava. In natural supervillian fashion he asks if their curious what he’s going to do to them. Enid says no, KO admits sheepilshy he does.

HIs plan is to drop them towards the lava then blow them with a giant fan into some knives

I just love how it’s not some thick razor wall of knives or something, it’s just clearly whatever knives boxman had lying around including some sort of cermonial dagger, all his kitchen knives and a plastic knife.  I miss this series perfect sense of comedy. 

But Boxman ends up running off as it turns out he double booked in the classic sitcom manor as he has a buisness dinner party tonight! And Dinner Burnt!

He greets his client, Professor Venemous, played by Stephen Og, whose best known for Grand Theft Auto V... which i’ve never played because I only own nintendo consoles and they won’t put it on the switch because shut up. Boxman awkwardly hugs him. Dude.. no. You can’t just. .hug your crush like that. That’s weird and unsettling... I mean granted i’m not great with romance and spent years either creeping people or just plain failing and stumble at trying to talk to women romantically, let alone men which i’m too scared to even WANT to attempt half the time for fear of a negative reactoin

  It’s funny because I'm dying alone due to my own deep insecurities and shortcomings. 

Fink rightly kicks him in the face but it’s clear Boxman likes Venmous from minute one. Venomus. is a bit abivlant, not happy his last order of robot parts never arrived, likely because Boxman used them to create some sort of giant mech made entirely out of his children for him to pilot but it fell over because he didn’t use enough Darrel arms. He’ll get there eventually. 

So Boxman has them get seated while dashing to go take care of his hostages running into Darryl and Shannon respectively. Darryl wants to wear his sailor suit, and Shannon wants to sing her song. Boxman agrees to the latter to stall for time while he goes to his nemisises and wearing funny apron, is forced to admit he accidnetly double booked and simply wants to have it all.. and by that I mean he wants to bone his client, and keep his buisness, and murder three teenagers. Going for the triple crown there Boxy. At least I assume that’s what the triple crown is. 

So he leaves them and goes to Dinner while the Heroes break out, standard stuff. 

The Dinner is a shit show.. for starters Boxman had to run back because Shanon is singing the diheera song.. what’s the diherrea song.. wellllll

These are the only three places i’ve seen it refrenced. Anyways, Boxman shuts that down and dinner is natrually boogers given it was burnt, no one’s touching the sallad it’s an awkard mess. Awwww just like me. 

Things aren’t helped by the fact our three heroes, after getting free, decide instead to ruin Boxman’s evening, showing up as waiters with comedy mustaches and standard chef’s outfits to serve dinner... which is code for dump something on Boxman’s crotch. Maybe it’s acid, maybe i’ts maybleine, maybe it’s just ketchup, maybe it’s something rad keeps in his van, I don’t think we’re meant to know. 

They finish the course with desert: pies. A pie fight insues and Boxman, noticing Venmous getting increasingly irritated, decides fuck it and does the logical thing: Grabs his son, turns him into a bazooka, rips his daughter’s arms off to use as the aims, then grabs the pies as their thrown to use as ammo and goes rambo on them.. and Venmous is very into it. He even zeros in on Boxman’s chest. Check it out

Look if I have to suffer so do you. But I do love this scnee.. it shows off WHY Gar simply hasn’t taken down Boxman besides superhero logic: he’s just that good despite his neurosis and comical nature. And it also shows why Venmous finds him attractive, as he explains after he asks for the guns: a dinner party is freaking boring and he goes through so many.. but vanqshing a hero, seing boxman truly passionate and in his element, that’s truly special. Venemous sends our heroes off and decides to up his contract instead of ending it, giving boxman his hug and beginging the courtship... though Boxman does get boxing gloved by Fink for his trouble. Hey winning over your boyfriends kids his hard bud, takes time. You’ll get it.

Final Thoughts:

This episode is fun, well paced and amazingly sets up venmous, showing him as compietent, charasmatic and very, very bi. He’d only get better from here as would the relationship.. with thankfully no more sweaty closeups of boxman...

Good episodes if you excuse me I need a freaking shower. Nothing against boxman if you find him attractive you do you but for me... yeah still need that shower.
