I'm shocked that no more attention has been brought towards Muller, the marriage counselor, who seems to have involved himself just to smooth things over for Gaiman?:
At least with Palmer, one could argue she was afraid or that she selfishly knew how her involvement would affect her reputation, but Muller? He got nothing to gain nor lose out of this, yet still, he was playing on Gaiman's favor. The extent of male solidarity is chilling.
I'm starting to look at a lot of male artist that I've loved over time through this lens of Neil Gaiman's absolutely heinous acts. Especially the ones who've made a career on telling the stories of women. Like Robert Eggers, or Alex Garland. What have they done? Am I going to find something horrible about them that makes me unable to watch Nosferatu or Annihilation?
I know there are good men out there, and good creators, and it isn't fair to conflate them all. But in a cultural moment like this, it's hard to trust my own taste. I'm just furious. I'm wondering, what other signs am I missing? Who is the next snake in the grass? Who else is hurting someone who doesn't deserve it and using their money and power to cover it up? Is it someone whose art shaped me as a person?
And the shittiest part is, he won't be the last. There WILL be others. We've all known this for a long time.
Does anyone have a positive take I can borrow to get me through the night?
Hey BPP! Did you see the vulture article about the new documentary? It made me feel so crazy to see Hobi say he would hesitate to show Swim to someone when that's exactly how I feel about it too. There have been times before where I didn't totally love a BTS song but changed my mind completely after seeing how much enthusiasm they perform that song with. But if I don't love the album and BTS also doesn't love this album then I don't know what I'm doing here. I guess I'm just feeling really frustrated with big hit's creative decisions

“No matter how hard we try, what sucks will suck,” Jimin says.
Can I just say, I love Jimin. Park Jimin, nearly everything about him is perfect but as I've said before, I especially love the way he talks. Yoongi is another member whose speech is a big reason for why I love him. But man, Jimin....
There's quite a few interesting points about the members in that article but that's all I'll say about that.
Much ado has been made about the album at this point and I don't want to repeat myself so I won't comment on that part. I'm waiting to watch the documentary to determine things for myself, but just from reading that article, the thing that struck me is: wth happened with Nicole Kim?
For newer ARMYs, Nicole Kim is (was?) a key fixture in BigHit who worked in a quasi-translator / quasi-A&R capacity when BTS was starting to really blow up in 2017 through 2019. She became the main A&R chief sometime around 2018 I think. In 2023 she left HYBE to become A&R chief at Colombia Records - a development I've (distressingly) talked about before for what it implied about what Bang Sihyuk was doing at BigHit and HYBE more generally. Other older BigHit staff left as well, and with the corporate revelations and PR crisis that happened in 2024 about BSH and HYBE's direction, many of us figured it was only a matter of time before HYBE tried to entice older staff back.
What is surprising to me about the quotes attributed to Nicole Kim in that article in her new (upgraded) capacity as VP of BigHit and Exec Producer of SWIM MV, is that we know she wasn't involved in the A&R for this album from the start because Bang Sihyuk is on record talking about scouting producers for this album with Scooter Braun in 2023.... and there are anecdotes of ARMYs bumping into her outside of the initial performances of Black Swan in the US (in 2020 before COVID) where they talked about how much they loved the song and performance.
So - those quotes from her seem especially discordant to the impression I've had of her up till now. The cynical part of me has an easy explanation as to why, but again, I'm choosing to withhold judgement until I actually watch the damn doc.
I think this is the first BTS comeback where I'm more keen to see the documentary than the dance practices and live interviews lol. What a time.
Here's a brief history of slash fiction and fandom that I came across. This is a free article for a limited time so click and read soon.
A brief history of slash fiction.
On ER, Noah Wyle was a prime-time TV star. In the streaming era, he’s just happy to be part of the company.
And as a reminder, here's your 12 ft ladder.
Things I really, really loved in this article:
The author, Roxana Hadadi, is on tumblr. I am sure of it.
The weird, vaguely conservative framing of the article, where Noah is referenced as having "Old Hollywood, liberal-coded traditionalism" because he *checks notes* thinks actors should get paid.
And also reference to his activism (here for Medicaid, and then again later, striking for SAG)
But also, the weird moment when they ask if any of The Pitt's storylines are meant to be specific call-outs, which he denies, but then is immediately undercut when the interviewer asks about anti-maskers and Noah's like, "Oh, lol yeah we DID call out them on purpose."
And then, referring to him as "self-loathing" which......I mean, maybe the intent was to go for self-effacing, or self-deprecating, or even self-conscious, but self-loathing has strong "I can fix him" vibes at best, but gets quickly derisive at worst.
I also enjoyed the idea that his type is someone you would follow into battle, when the two military roles we know he was good for were Private Ryan, and Upham, in Saving Private Ryan. Both of whom are notably NOT the leaders of men. But I am absolutely on board with the Jimmy Stewart comparison.
And then, perhaps the crowning jewel of the entire article, is it ending with Noah explaining how, at 53 years old, Noah got frat-boy wasted, slipped in the shower, gave himself a concussion, and then when his wife told him to see a doctor, he said, "Lol, I am one"
I think this might top the interview where Adrien Brody talks about micro-dosing shrooms, listening to trap, and doing push-ups before a show.
I can't separate the art from the artist
I am so sorry to all the women who have come forward, including Scarlett Pavlovich, Brenda, Katherine Kendall, Kendra Stout, Rachel, and Caroline. I hope you all can truly find solace in each other and peace going forward.
I was never a Gaiman fan. At one point I wanted to be, but I never read more than half of Good Omens, and I've never seen how Coraline ends. That's the extent of my knowledge of him, but I liked his fans and the fandoms he created. I still think those people are so funny, insightful, and creative.
After reading the Vulture article, I want to burn my copy of Good Omens.
I am never finishing it. I just can't do it.
To everyone who has not read the article, I recommend it with caution. It is difficult to read, and you don't have to read it. Heed the content warning.
I'm speaking on this because sexual assault, rape, and child abuse, alleged or not, are important to discuss and try to prevent.
Stay vigilant and know that you are not alone. No matter who you are, your gender, your race, your sexuality, or your nationality, etc, take care of yourself and your loved ones to the best of your ability. Do not fall into complacency.
I have been able to separate the art from the artist in the past. For example, I have read a lot of classic literature, and Lord knows these classic authors' beliefs and actions were often harmful. But their life and death in a 'different time' has always been enough for me to acknowledge their issues and still consume their art.
I can't do it this time and to everyone else who can't, it's okay. And to everyone who enjoyed his art, that's okay too. Those who are deciding the art belongs to them in true death of the author fashion, that's okay and I understand. We can only move forward and hope that justice is served and everyone affected gets peace and support.
