THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT BOTHERED ME SO MUCH I WAS LIKE…I WANT OUT WHY THE PRAISING
Ooku BAD.
Bad for Kama, bad for the crime of being a boring ass interminable slog and bad for making a merciless butcherer out to be the hero like he didn’t take a castle and made a mass cemetery of it WHAT IN THE FLYING FUCK
Surely Japan has no shortage of heroic figures for a selfless sacrifice scene without having to resort to use the “burned children alive and slaughtered thousands”-kind of monsters? Surely?
[Image Description: Five screenshots from World of Warcraft showing a blue dragon in flight over the snowy mountains of Storm Peaks. The first four show the dragon against a dark gray sky, storm clouds in the distance, with a brilliant red star near a faint aurora. The fifth shows it descending toward a Vrykul village. Small ref sketch commission of the lovely Vyragosa!

What if...
...Instead of Portgas D Ace, it is Marco, that dies at Marineford? How would that shake things up, if Ace is still alive (with the possibility of Whitebeard surviving too) - since Marco also had a Devil Fruit.
This musing is the fault of an unsuspecting @vyragosa , that will probably scratch their head and feel pretty confused about how this came about.
The reason for it is quite simple really, I saw some art they had made of Marco with his head down.
And since you could not see his face, and his hair was flowing downwards, I first mistakenly thought it was SABO.
Though the hints of Marco´s Devil Fruit confused me greatly, until I realized that it was of Marco. And not Sabo, like I first assumed.
BUT. That slight second made me imagine - what would have changed if Marco was the one that took the hit (protecting Ace and Luffy) from Akainu - and died because of it. (Hopefully he managed to drag Akainu down with him too, so both dies, for some reason that seem a fitting revenge from the First Commander. To kill his enemy that would be the cause of his own death.)
The angst though. And it all lead to the thought of :
What would happen with his Devil Fruit?
Would Ace find out that Sabo is alive - and insist on his newly found again sworn brother, to be the one to eat Marco´s Devil Fruit?
Ace would feel selfish for wanting his remaining blond brother to take over the legacy of that Devil Fruit. But he know how hard it is to kill a user of that Devil Fruit, and with the almost-death Sabo had before, when they were younger? He would feel much more secure knowing it would take a lot more to kill Sabo off this time. If he eat Marco´s Devil Fruit. Even if it would feel like someone drag a knife into his heart, and twist it around. Because he lost one brother, but gained another. And life is not fair. But then again, it never was. Or else they would not have found themselves in this situation in the first place.
