Back from the premiere and yeah, I can confirm, instant love.

*and* it leans more on the Dungeon Meshi side of the character design philosophy, as in all characters clearly visually belong to the same universe and culture*, while Frieren -for my tastes- is sometimes all over the place and isnt as immersive.

*culture here more in the "the world, it's clothes and objects in general had a coherent evolution and all read as belonging together" sense and not "we'll see a single culture in this story", which I dont know.

I'm glad the Agents of the Four Seasons anime didnt specify that the child the MCs meet in the 1st episode is twelve like the novel does, because that kid behaved like a 8-9yo *at best*.

I was reading the first 100 pages of the novel and aggressively thought: "Oh. The author hasnt met a 12 years old in 20 years, has she".

The news about the Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori anime is fantastic. It’ll introduce a whole new generation to the series and to this fascinating period of history!

I have to admit, though, it feels surreal to see Shinohara’s incredible historical epic finally adapted for the screen, 30 years after I first discovered the manga in Sho-Comi as a kid. It’s not my personal favorite among Shinohara’s works (just because she has so many incredible series), but it is one that has had a lasting impact on me. It’s a powerful and important piece, especially to Shinohara as an artist with a deep interest in the history of Anatolia.

While we haven't seen how the animation itself will look, I really hope the project enjoys broad support. It’s a strong series, and if you’re an English speaker who hasn’t read the manga yet, the VIZ Media rerelease is currently in print. Definitely check it out before the anime premieres.

This post is simply me, as an older fan, expressing how happy I am to see this project finally take shape. Even though we don’t know much yet, a Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori anime is something I never expected to witness in my lifetime. So, as a longtime reader I just wanted to mark the occasion. Truly feeling overwhelmed in a positive way right now!
