vegan activism webinar - insight, impact, influence 🍃
I recently attended a webinar by Clare Mann, author of Vystopia, about the strategies she has used & found most helpful in building productive dialogues with non-vegan people. I took a handful of screenshots of her presentation, which emphasized the importance of:
insight: developing an understanding of how communication interacts with human psychology, and as opposed to simply "being nicer", what distinct patterns of speech/choices of phrasing are observably more likely to foster open-mindedness, emotional honesty & radical perspective changes in others
impact: challenging the idea that stating facts/logic is the most effective path towards change (and hence that intense emotion such as 'vystopia' is a hindrance to be subdued before successful dialogue can occur); instead, positing emotional intensity as politically valuable & vital, and promoting healthy processing through mindfulness tools & channeled action
influence: committing to compassionate self-development in order to discover, build & refine the skillset needed for productive dialogues, rooted in the idea that the "influential vegan" is not a lofty or mythical status reserved for a select few, but rather a real & obtainable quality for any vegan activist
I took an audio recording of the webinar for personal purposes; I might share it privately upon request but would strongly recommend attending the live event if possible. she is hosting a waitlist for her next webinar, and you can also book a call with her for personalized advice on how to advance your activism skills :-)
