Mum says autistic son 'deserved better from Waitrose'

The supermarket is investigating after Frances Boyd says her son Tom was stopped from volunteering.

Frances Boyd said her son Tom, 28, began work experience at the Cheadle Hulme store in Greater Manchester in 2021, and continued to work unpaid, accompanied by a support worker, as it gave him "a sense of purpose and belonging".

However, she said when she asked if he could be offered "just a few paid hours" in July, the supermarket chain's head office told him he had to stop and could not return to the store.

Thanks to the “Meghan Markle effect,” a scientifically-studied phenomena wherein companies report dramatic increases in sales thanks to the duchess, the luxe cookware brand Le Creuset has quickly sold out of multiple products in its Meringue colorway.

British supermarket chain Waitrose also said its website has seen interest spike for ingredients like edible flowers and truffle salt that she used on the show.

You might think that Waitrose is a posh shop with no good reason to exist

But did you ever consider that it also sucks to work there

Interviewer: I just want to know what your favourite supermarket is.

Louis: interesting question. I suppose, growing up, it would’ve been Asda. Big fan of Asda, couldn’t really shop anywhere else. As an older guy with a little more money in my pocket, I’m probably a Tesco guy. Tesco’s finest, yeah. I’m posh these days, guys, don’t worry about it. 

Interviewer2: This man has a Waitrose card, Louis. Can you imagine? 

Louis: Oh, bougie as fuck.

Interviewer: I’m dead embarrassed about my Waitrose app, but I do occasionally get notifications about it. 

Louis: What d’you get with the app? What’s the benefit, mate? Sell it to me. 

Interviewer: You get a free coffee. 

Louis: Okay, okay. Right, right, cool.

Interviewer: C’mon. It’s quite a good perk.

Louis: It’s a good perk, to be fair, yeah, yeah. Do people who shop at Waitrose need any freebies? Probably not.
