Finished “The Dragon Reborn” last night. Another early hours finish. Well worth it. Before I dive into “The Shadows Rising” with it whopping 1000+ pages, I am going to read this. The Man Who Fell To Earth written by Walter Tevis. I have the David Bowie film of this on DVD. I had seen it a few times before but like a lot of people, when Bowie passed on, the sense of loss was huge and I had to get more of him so I bought the DVD. I’m interested to see how the book compares. Walter Tevis wasn’t an author that I was familiar with and I was surprised to learn that he also wrote The Hustler and The Colour of Money to name a few. I’m a Paul Newman fan, Cool Hand Luke being one of my favourite films and a good read, so I am familiar with the films. I read chapter 1 last night before drifting off to sleep. It’s got me interested already. Escrita por el norteamericano Walter Tevis en 1983, Gambito de dama -o Gambito de Reina, en una traducción anterior, regresa esta semana a las librerías españolas aprovechando el tirón de la miniserie protagonizada por Anya Taylor-Joy, con un argumento que combina aspectos de la biografía del autor con la trayectoria del prodigioso Bobby Fischer. La misma invención del ajedrez tiene su propia leyenda, la del rey -o brahmán- para quien un sabio ideó el juego con el fin de que se distrajera y el jerarca quiso compensarle con lo que deseara, a lo que el ingenioso consejero respondió que solo pedía un grano de trigo en la primera casilla, y que se fuera duplicando en las siguientes... con lo que resultó que no había trigo suficiente en el reino para su recompensa.
