Honestly, I turn my back to kpop industry since sajaegi accusation took place and $M (being one of the first company to ever bring kpop to international platform) had been mistreating the artists under their label since 2000s. Body shaming, playing favourites, ignoring fans pleas, locking promising artists underground for years (¥G’s not the only one who does this k) and with the recent and obvious neglect towards foreign artists under their label and how their subscription number drops, I can honestly say, from someone who kinda know how $M handles shit, and their false confidence, arrogance and smug smile; unsubscribing can only do so much. BigHit remains the only company to date, that I observe to be as transparent as they can towards the fans, us. It means a lot. Other companies aren’t so good at that—cue $M, ¥G etc.
With the stocks value continue to drop for ¥G, iKON is still going for Japan tour—while ¥G attempts to shove its many scandals under the rug and fans questions left unanswered, despite the obvious scars on the members face, having to perform without their leader. Renjun, with Chinese nationality was left to search his own car in the rain while Jeno, Korean nationality gets pampered with the umbrella being held FOR him to the car.
When will these so-called big-named small companies understand that the consumers/fans still holds the greater power and finally get off their high-horses? Their attitude is disgusting and shows no remorse to the artist that brought them money. As long as there is supporters to the group they birthed, there’s no guarantee they would fix this system. It’s safe to say that most of us knows how the systems work, I know my followers are mature enough to understand that kpop is a business. But the artists under their care and tolerance are inexplicably: human.
Considered my worries expressed, and eventhough I’m a BTS fan now, I was from a Kpop background and I cannot rest until this issues be spoken about, the wellbeing of artists should be the company’s greatest and utmost priority. Speak yourself.
