I love Hardison and Nate’s relationship as partners in crime. It’s pretty clear that Hardison is the one who has to have the clearest/most updated version of Nate’s plan because the computer aspects are the things that tend to change most quickly. From episode 2, they’re working together on the headquarters, and even by season 5, they’re just as close. Hardison was the first one to know about Nate’s plan to retire. He’s always the first to know.

👩 - What is your muse’s relationship like with their mother? Is it good, bad, or complicated?

Nate’s mother, Catherine Ford, is dead. But before she died, Nate got along with her very well. In fact, he looked up to her, idealized her a bit like Catholic boys seem to do with their mothers sometimes. To him, she’s a little like a saint. He can’t remember her ever having flaws. That’s the problem with their relationship. He never saw her clearly enough to understand her, and she was too fixated on instilling a good moral center in him to know that one day it would end up his stumbling block. She brought him to mass, she modeled kindness and charity, but she never taught him to forgive himself for his errors. Between his mother being the ultimate good, and his father the ultimate evil, Nate still sees things in black and white.

🐜 - How does your muse feel about animal lives? Do they treat them the same way they’d treat a person, or do they feel they’re inferior?

Thoughts?

Nate loves his turtle, Zicado, and his mice, and is pretty kind to animals in general. He even likes bugs. However, he doesn’t go out of his way to spoil any of his animals and isn’t overly affectionate with them. He has had stints of vegetarianism, but that was more in response to cruel and unsustainable farming practices than concern for animal death in general. He has what could be considered a healthy respect for nature in that he accepts that animals eat each other, but they shouldn’t suffer if it can be helped.

What makes you nervous? Not scared, just nervous.

          “bein’ in a position where i can’t see any exits. or… i dunno. when th’ comms go out. that makes me nervous too. why?” plenty of things make him nervous. “depends on th’ context, i guess.”

Okay, Eliot, purely hypothetically, which piece of kitchen equipment would you be LEAST mad about being broken. Or which one would you be most mad about, I guess.

               “…. what th’ hell kinda hypothetical question is that, hardison?” eliot is instantly on high alert because questions like that usually get followed up with ‘don’t be mad but i actually just broke that thing you said you’d be most mad about being broken.’ and eliot really didn’t want that just now. not when it comes to, “my brand new knife set, hardison. they’re fuckin’ expensive an’ brand new. i haven’t even gotten t’ do anythin’ with ‘em yet!” cue eliot pulling himself up from the couch to investigate in the kitchen. “what’s goin’ on, man? what’re you doin’?”

“Hardison, it’s you!” Nate’s grasp loosened on the trigger as he dropped his arm to his side. He gave a sigh of relief and stepped forward to pull him into a hug. 

“How did you get out? I thought you were a hostage?”
