Okay so here is the plan I've written a very special ritual feel free to use it if you wish. I'm working on it for being for nightmares or anything that hunts me. You may feel free to change what you'd like, I'll be sure to place my reasoning behind each step so you understand the significance as well as logic behind why it is part of the ritual. Keep in mind I am a Norse Pagan so this may not translate to other gods easily, be sure to always do your own research before copy and pasting. If a particular aspect doesn't work with your god it would be wise to not slight them by using it. I'm going to call forth a devourer, I'm specifically calling Hati but you are free to substitute whatever God/goddess you would like.
Write these runes first on a piece of paper or have them readily available you will be writing them on your door frame to a specific room or to your front door during this ritual.
There are three sets the dots are the separation so later when I specify keep in mind you will write one set at a time.
I choose to write it on my front door but if you do it to your bedroom door to specify guarding your dreams that will be fine too.
They are warding runes. I've been working with them to better understand their power. There's a really great app that helps you write with runes so I used that. They are Elder Futhark, my reasoning for using this variation was because when they used these runes it was often carved into stone or iron. I'm keeping with iron themes so make sure you keep you edges sharp when you write it will be very important. Do not round off any of them.
Bag: spell bag, or the modern plastic baggie, keep in mind you'll be adding ingredients to this and placing it under your pillow.
3 Iron nails: in old lore three was the number for harmony, and iron is for protection. Since I am seeking protection against Fae it is double good.
Something to symbolize your deity: I will be using a medallion for Hati and Skoll since Hati is who I will be calling. I recommend calling a deity that either protects or consumes, I work with deities that are often seen as hostile and misunderstood, if you want to to use a protection deity that's completely valid. Any deity really as long as you share a connection with them they'll help you. I would not suggest calling forth one who you do not work with already, it will be very important for you to have a connection so that they understand your struggle and need for them.
White Candle: this must be a new candle. You can use any small candle it does not have to be big or anything more than a tea candle size. Keep in mind you will be yeeting this after the ritual so do not use one that has sentimental meaning. You will be blessing this candle before use so it is important that it be white, unscented and just a regular wax candle. No preference on wick since it is going to be a single use feel free to use your cheapest option because the work you put into blessing the candle is what makes it special.
Salt: table salt, sea salt, large grain, fine grain. Whichever size you want or feel most drawn to just make sure when you measure measure enough to where you feel comfortable it does not need to be more than a few tea spoons though and this will be going into the bag to place under your pillow.
Lavender: lavender helps promote sleep and relaxation you can use it as an oil or sprigs. I will be using sprigs that I grow myself but you can easily pick up an oil and three drops should be plenty. You'll be adding them to the bag during the ritual.
Virgin olive Oil: this will be used to bless your candle. You will be rubbing it on your candle in preparation so you will need just enough to dip your finger tips in. Honestly be a kitchen witch here. If this olive oil is what you use for cooking too that's fine!
If you are using your own resources and sacrificing your own materials no matter what the original intent was its still a good sacrifice. Don't even feel bad for using what you have. Part of it being a sacrifice is that you're using it now for a specific purpose and not for yourself the intent behind it is what is important not the brand of product.
Something to offer your deity: It can be anything!! I will be offering homemade moon water to Hati. Make sure you offer what your deity would like. Obviously moon water is not something Tyr would care for so if you offer to another deity feel free to change the offering. This is really where you make the ritual your own and special to your and your deity.
Something to write with: something really means something, as long as you are able to write on your doorframe and even a peice of paper and tape it to your doorframe. So pen, pencil, keep in mind pencils are graphite and not lead so it really does not matter what you use to write with. Like I said before the important thing is how it is written, keep the runes Sharp and do not round off the edges.
Something to make noise: again I do mean something. Noise scares away evil spirits and is a kitchen witch alternative to sage that you will notice is very absent from this ritual.
Why no sage: I do not want to scare away good spirits and often times people will use white sage (do not use white sage whole thing right now with it and only native-American should use it.) when thinking of what kind to use. Just to avoid any issues I have removed it entirely and there's plenty of amazing alternatives to sage.
Open up a window: the "bad" needs a place to go and you do NOT want to trap them or hinder their get away. Any window in your house or apartment is fine though it is preferred that it is in the same room as where you perform this ritual.
Before the ritual you will need to bless your candle. Dip one finger tip in the olive oil and rub in on your candle lightly. Do not let it pool on your candle keep fire safety in mind as well you do not need a lot of oil and you do not want it to be pooling on top. As you rub your candle you'll be infusing your intent into it. Make sure that you keep in mind why you are performing this ritual. Spend some time meditating while doing this clear your head and get in the mindset for what you're about to do. If you want to do it for the length of a song that is special to you that's fine. This is really where you can get creative, do what feels right.
Next set up for your ritual. Make sure you do what you always do, do not think you need to change your layout of your alter. You will need a second dish though, one for offering and one for the mixture of "stuff." The mixture of stuff bowl will be combined during ritual so have the ingredients readily available.
"I gather today to so seek protection. (Light your candle)
As the nights linger my troubles grow. I call now in a desperation and offer to (Hati) so that they may shield my dreams, guard my thoughts, and protect my mind.
What stirs my sleep is other wordly and beyond my control. Hail the gods and their power over that which cannot be seen."
I wrote this for Hati, please write your own if you use any other deity.
"Hati the God triumphant over the moon. Hail Hati.
I invite Hati Fenrirson into my home and mind. May you devour these troubles as you would consume the moon. Hail Hati the silver wolf who makes haste across the sky. Hail the son of Fenrir. Hail the family who teaches the inevitable. Hail Hati. Hail the devourer. Hail."
"Hati I offer you this water that was bathed in the light of a full moon. May you walk my dreams and seek out this evil that plagues them."
Moment of silence for meditation
"The offering has been given. May it be accepted."
Another moment of silent reflection
"Hati I thank you for joining me and may i aid you in your quest with tools of my own."
As each ingredient is spoken ass it to the bowl
"I empower you with lavender that will calm my mind, salt that will cleanse the spirit, and iron nails. Just as nails hold together a building these will hold together our shield."
Take your candle again keep in mind fire safety and now you'll need your doorframe, runes and something to write with. Either write on paper and tape to your door frame or write directly on your doorframe.
"As I stand at the frame where trouble may enter let the malevolence know they are not welcome. With these runes I write to protect. (Write the first set.) I write to guard. (Write second set) I write to shield. (Write third set.) With these tools may evil feel unwelcome. May they go back into the world and find no home."
Now let's makes some noise. Go through every room. You have issues with and make noise. Until you come back to where you have written the runes.
"With this cleansing may all evil be gone."
"Go now Hati and thank you for your aid."
"As we part tonight may the blessings be accepted, and may evil be banished."
Pour your bowl of stuff into your bag and place that bag under your pillow. Yeet your offering to your deity and you are done!
