This all started (my homebrew journey) because of this guy and one other guy lol. My friend has a podcast and we all decided to bring one homebrew creation to the table and now I'm many homebrew deep.
Anyway, this is inspired by Fallen Angels and their desire to return to heaven, with some options for what your Fallen Angel patron might be like/what their motives might be!
Day 5 everyone! Today we went to play with Warlock, one of my favorite classes to brew. I think the Warlock needs more love XD. The prompt was Big Hits / Crits, so I took that in the Big Hits direction.
Before I get into some breakdown, I like my homebrew warlock classes to give the spells rather than provide the option to take them, so that is why you only see one spell on the expanded list, but you automatically learn it.
The class is designed around two things, the Hex spell and utilizing resources to output high damage for a high cost. The Hex spell has always been somewhat underwhelming for me, is it good? absolutely, but using it never feels as good as I’d like for a concentration spell. Is this all personal? yes. Regardless, as you level in this class your Hex spell no longer requires concentration, and deals an additional D6 when activated by attacks.
The second major feature is Apocalypse, a nice big fireball like feature that overcomes resistances and immunity. It gets stronger, adding damage for each Warlock Level, giving reason to keep gaining levels in the class. It can only be used once a long rest, unless your willing to sacrifice one of your spell slots.
The subclass also comes with a couple Eldritch Invocations, because whats a homebrew warlock without a few new invocations designed just for them? Hope that you all enjoy this one!
Yo I’m making a really REALLY fucked up warlock subclass homebrew, like, even more pain and suffering than the Bloodhunter class >:3 But all wrapped up in ribbons and sparkles - a misled warlock barely hanging on by a thread of hope and light. I’ve only got some flavor text down and a brief idea of mechanics down, should I post as I figure out more?
hnnnng I have so much work to do and have done none of it and instead made homebrew for a warlock patron cause I know how to prioritise
anyway IDK how to balance anything ‘cause I’m a noob and this is the first thing I’ve ever tried to homebrew, and I don’t trust reddit to look over my stuff and be not a dick about it, but I trust tumblr marginally more. So if anyone would be down to do that lemme know, I’d greatly appreciate it :)
first draft is below the cut! (again sorry if it’s kind weird/very not balanced, idk what I’m doing my dude)
Aver'Bayzella is an ancient being, hidden away in her timeless realm. Is she fey, fiend, great old one, or a mix of them all? No one truly knows, and it matters not. For all that matters now is beauty, and adding that beauty to Aver'Bayzella's ever expanding collection.
*edited to include balance Crit from other places
Aver'Bayzella - The Collector of Beautiful Things - NE
Aver'Bayzella can't stand the dirty and disgusting material plain, but loves the few, rare, truly beautiful things that exist in it. Your job is to seek out and bring those beautiful things to her. Whether they are objects, buildings, plants, songs, creatures, people, places, etc if she wants it you will provide. Remember that beauty is the goal, not necessarily wealth. Though these things often coincide, they are not one in the same.
Upon your death or should you fail her one too many times, what's left of your body and spirit will also be added to her collection.
Expanded Spell List
1 level - Tensers Floating Disk, Identify
2 level - Locate Object, Gift of Gab
3 level - Clairvoyance, Blink, Incite Greed
4 level - Dominate Beast , Stone Shape
5 level - Creation, Dominate Person
Level 1 - Beautiful Servant
Upon taking this pact you become Aver'Bayzella's property, and all things Aver'Bayzella owns must be beautiful. She has mercifully and graciously scrubbed all of your physical flaws away, making you the most perfect version of yourself and granted you a connection to her realm.
Your new beauty is captivating and eternal. You may gain advantage on persuasion, deception, and performance checks, as well as any checks that would be bolstered by your physically beautiful being 3 times per long rest.
Your physical form is ageless through your connection to Aver'Bayzella's timeless realm. You are stuck at the age she set for you upon making your pact. Though you are still mortal in every other way, you cannot die of old age.
Level 6 - Creator of Beauty
Having proven your eye for the beautiful, Aver'Bayzella has decided to expand the ways you can serve her by training you to making beautiful things for her.
You are taught two artisans tool proficiencies from the following list: Calligraphy, Carpentry, Cobbler, Cook, Glassblower, Jeweler, Mason, Painter, Potter, Smith, Weaver, and Woodcarver.
With an action you are able to summon any of the tools from the list above that you are proficient in. These tools appear in a spectral form and will disappear when not in use.
As well, 2 times per long rest, you can instantly manifest a temporary object that you could make with your tool proficiencies from the list above. This item may be no larger than 5 ft in any dimension. The object lasts for 2d20 hours as rolled at creation. It is solid/real, non-magical but appear obviously magical in nature, and cannot be used as a spell component.
If the character has or attains additional tool proficiencies from the list above through other means, they can use these abilities with them as well.
Level 10 - Beautiful Veil
As property of Aver'Bayzella, you are a valued and beautiful creature. Those who would seek to harm beauty must be punished. A protective veil now shrouds you, which you may call upon 1 time per short or long rest.
When you are hit with and attack from an attacker, you may use your reaction to call upon the veil for protection, negating all damage from the attack. You may pick one form of retribution from the following:
Behold Beauty- Your attacker and all those in a 10ft cube centered on you must make a constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, or is blinded for a maximum of 1 minute with consecutive con saves each round.
Worship Beauty- Charm Person is cast on your attacker.
Poisonous Beauty - Starting on their turn, your attacker must make a con save against your warlock spell save DC at the start of each of their turns or takes half your warlock level (rounded down) in poison damage, and half of that on a successful save. After 3 successful saves the poison subsides.
Level 14 - Judgement of Beauty
Aver'Bayzella now trusts your eye for beauty enough to help her bring judgement to the beautiful and the ugly. Once per long rest you can use your action to send one creature of your choice to Aver'Bayzella realm to be judged by her. She will reveal her judgement to you on your next turn. Her judgement is decided by the DM.
Beautiful - Those she deems beautiful she will keep in her domain.
Normal - Those she rejects will be sent back to their previous position or the nearest unoccupied square and take 10d10 psychic damage from the encounter.
Disgusting - Those she deems disgusting she will yeet back with particularly nasty force, and they will instead take 10d20 force damage.
Bahari Vissara, our Water Genasi Warlock (Lurker in the Deep), was once held to a pact with a great Kraken beneath the deep ocean - Scylla, Thirdborn of Umberlee. After discovering that, to fulfill her pact and to find a place within the occult ranks of the Children of Scylla (all turned to Water Genasis by their patron), she must give up her old life and new friends and sentence herself to servitude. Disagreeing with this immensely, she severed her pact and was left powerless, until she found her father’s magical sword - a Vestige named Brinedge.
Brinedge was a creation of the Wildmother and Erathis, a sort of loving creation from an ill-thought out tryst the two shared. As such, this item throngs with primordial powers and godly energy. When Bahari took up this weapon, she found a new pact and restored powers! Now, she serves the ocean itself - in the form of the Squall.
This homebrewed Warlock Pact was heavily inspired by the Lurker in the Deep, as some of the abilities were carried over from it directly. This was to be symbolic, and I therefore do not take credit for most of the abilities. Likewise, the Storm Aura comes from a Barbarian Primal Path, and some other abilities and Invocations come from other online sources, but tweaked slightly. This was done in an effort to create something new, fresh, and meaningful to both the character and the player.
I take no credit for most of this, other than the flavor text and the few personal designs and creations within. Still, I hope it’s cool enough to warrant a look-see!
Two whole people voiced interest in my warlock pact but with wizards idea specifically, so I'm gonna post it.
I call this warlock patron...
The Order
You've struck a deal with an organization of wizards, whose goals are as various as the realms themselves, yet they've pulled their spells together to grant you unimaginable power. Mortal groups such as these could be pursuing the knowledge of the worlds, or perhaps they've learned of forces that they hope to guard against with your assistance. Orders with the numbers or power to forge a pact include Mordenkainen's circle of eight, Szass Tam's Red Wizards of Thay, and the Arcane Brotherhood; court wizard councils and bardic colleges are also suspect to make commoners into their agents.
Right then... first things first... the Expanded Spell List
The Order lets you choose from an expanded spell list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
1st level
Identify, Shield
2nd
Locate Object, Magic Weapon
3rd
Clairvoyance, Phantom Steed
4th
Conjure Minor Elementals, Ice Storm
5th
Bigby's Hand, Geas
I'm hard set on the spells because they give that "wizard" touch to the warlock. Features I'm not so sure.
Proxy Knowledge
Starting at 1st level, your patrons allow you to tap into the knowledge they've collected. When making intelligence checks, you can chose to use your Charisma modifier instead of Intelligence.
Watchful Eyes
At 1st level your patrons begin watching your every move, which you are able to take advantage of. You have blindsight equal to 30ft.
Arcane Defense
At 6th level, the influence of your patrons allows you to anticipate magical attacks. When you are hit by a ranged spell attack, you can force the attacker to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save they take half of the damage for you. Additionally, when you are subjected to an affect that allows you to make a dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage when you succeed on a saving throw, and only half damage if you fail. Your attacker takes as much of the attack's damage as you do.
Lesser Arcana
Beginning at 10th level, your patrons teach you how to cast spells as they do. You have one spell slot for each spell level below 5th, and can use them for any of your warlock spells.
Technical Sight
Beginning at 14th level, your patrons begin storing their magical notes inside of your mind. Once you've taken a long rest after interacting with a magical item, you know exactly what materials and methods were used to create that item, and in what quantities. If you try to replicate the item and you have all the materials, you have advantage on any checks required in the process unless said item was made outside of your current realm.
Roleplay wise I think this could be pretty interesting, because unlike other warlock patrons, a large group of casters will still have more mundane goals that you could understand. Also unlike other patrons they probably put a lot of time and spells into granting your character power. You're an expensive investment that they'd rather not lose because of a disagreement, but nobody said there weren't a few geas thrown into the ritual.
listen it’s just a glorified path of the archfey, but i wanted to tweak it a bit to work for my darling who is multiclassing into warlock. either way i,,,,am pretty happy with how it came out. i might change some of the abilities later, but.....
i wanted to enter it it in @dndnet ‘s latest search so i cleaned it up nice to post
