WARINING GORE AND BLOOD

“Whumpee!” A voice called out, causing Whumpee to turn around just in time for Caretaker to tackle them in a hug, which they quickly reciprocated.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” Caretaker muttered softly, tightening their embrace.

Whumpee was stunned, it had been so long since they had been able to hold Caretaker in their arms, and they couldn’t even begin to describe how it felt. Being unable to find the right words to say, Whumpee clutched Caretaker even tighter, never wanting to let go.

“I-I missed you so-” Whumpee’s sentence fell short when Caretaker started to go limp in their grasp. Supporting their shoulders and head, Whumpee carefully set them on the ground, then noticed the red patch growing by Caretaker’s left side.

“No, no, no,” Whumpee frantically took off their sweater and pressed it to Caretaker’s wound, then grabbed Caretaker’s hands to rest it overtop of theirs.

“Stay with me, okay? You’re going to be fine, you’re going to be fine,” with the shock wearing off, Whumpee started to cry in earnest, the intensity of the situation dawning on them. It wasn’t fair, it just wasn’t fair. Who would be there to help Whumpee out on a bad day, now? Who would be there to ramble about their morning when Whumpee just needed to hear a voice? Who would always be there for them? Who would be their rock? There was no one else like Caretaker, no one smiled the same, no one listened the same, and no one cared the same. The memories they had together would only exist in Whumpee’s mind, slowly fading with no new ones to take their place. The tendrils of darkness could eventually creep up from where they had been overshadowed for so long, having no other light to keep them away. 

Whumpee’s eyes refocused on Caretaker’s when they felt a shaking hand touch their cheek, wiping away a stray tear and leaving behind a smear of blood.

“Don’t cry,” came the weak voice, “you’re alright; that’s all that matters.”

Whumpee held Caretaker’s hand to their face and opened their mouth to speak, but Caretaker’s eyes fluttered shut, the “I love you” dying on Whumpee’s tongue.

The soft rays of the morning sun entered the room, illuminating the discarded clothes that lay on the floor, abandoned in a forgetful haze.

The quiet snores of your lover reached your ears, letting your sleepy mind relax as you were reminded of a simple, innocuous fact: you were a ghost. Unliving, passed but not gone, stuck to follow your living fiancé.

Even with you here, he never had taken up the habit of being more organized. It made you smile, and yet... it made your heart crack, wondering how he would ever possibly live without you. Otto would of course clean up after his eldest brother, and Oscar would most likely clean the dishes, allowing your Axel to mourn.

You reached out for him, hoping, wishing... Your hand passed gently through him, laying onto the blankets under his being.

He would never know how you followed him, remaining at his side forever. Would he move on? He most likely would, his brothers told him so, but you knew they lied to him, to help heal him.

Axel tossed softly as if your ghostly touch had reached him, turning to face your side of the bed. Your breath caught in your none existant throat, eyes taking in the way he seemed to look towards you.

“I will always love you, kärlek. Rest for me, I will meet you again, I promise.” Axel whispered onto the silence of your shared room, pushing his face into your pillow. You couldn’t help but chuckle as tears streamed down your cheek, knowing that your fiancé was hiding his own tears into your forgotten pillow, trying to breath in your scent that had long disappeared.

‘And I you, my love.’ You whispered back, leaning forward to kiss Axel one last time before allowing yourself to rest eternally.

And as you leaned forward, you felt a spark, a deep, burning fire, lighting your insides once more.

Your lips met his hot cheek for the first time since you had died, making you sob harder against him, knowing you had just been granted a last goodbye, watching as your tears wet his skin.

“I love you, Axel.” You spoke, surprising your fiancé, watching as he coursed through a myriad of emotions, tears steadily falling.

“I love you, Y/N. You look like you need a good rest though.” He answered as he turned fully to look at you, choking out a wet laugh as he relished in your face of playful annoyance that he had so dearly missed.

“If youre trying to insinuate that I look ugly, you are never going to find anyone else to love you.” You teased with a heavy heart, sniffling back your tears as best as you could. He looked absolutely divine, leaning forward to grab you, holding you close.

“You will always be my only love Y/N. Even with your radiantly tired face.” He laughed against you, kissing your temple over and over again, showering you with every ounce of love that he felt in his heart for you.

As the morning sun illuminated thousands of dust particles drifting in the air of the quiet room, birds chirping softly, you felt lighter, as if-

“Its time to go now, my wife. Thank you, for loving me, and loving my brothers as if they were your own.” He spoke softly, kissing your lips for the last time, tender and soft, just like your first kiss.

“Thank you Axel, for simply being you. Tell them I said goodbye, will you?” You tried to smile, unable to as your heart broke all over again, watching as Axel hid his pain, trying to allow you to pass in peace. He nodded, and hugged you as you faded, breathing in softly, catching for the first time in months the faint smell of your perfume.

“Goodbye, my husband.” You whispered onto Axel’s neck, holding him with all your might.

Quiet reigned once more around Axel, broken only moments after by the sound of his sobs.

He taught me how to do the head smash since his exact words were "You like to take out enemies with hand to hand, how about I teach you my headbutt then you can take out enemies and make them fear the others around you". Zavala is horrified by this as I have been head smashing everything.

Imagine a scenario where Natsu dies protecting Lucy from the White Mage and using his dying breath to apologize to Lucy for leaving her for a year, apologize to the guild for leaving them with the White Mage and confessing his love for Lucy before dying peacefully in her arms.

She gently runs her fingers through his bangs, sweeping them away from his face. “Sh-hh, N-Natsu don’t.. just conserve your strength, help is coming.” Lucy desperately clings to her sanity, wanting to believe with every fiber in her body he would be okay. But everyone around them was still recovering from the white witches spell and the hope of pulling through was just that, hope. She shifts her legs a tad to adjust his head in her lap to make him more comfortable.

“No, I have to.” Natsu takes a labored breath. “I have to tell you before I go.”

She could hear the strain behind his words, every syllable pained and gut wrenching. “Don’t say it, please...” her own wavering voice begging not to make it so.

Natsu reaches up with a weary smile, cradling her cheek, and wiping away the tears that stroll down. He wished he had more time. There were so many things he wanted to say, but he could feel his life force draining.

“I’m so sorry I left you alone for that year to train and for all the times I wasn’t there for you. I should have spent as many waking moments with you as I could.”

Lucy blinks, her mind not grasping why he was bringing this up now. Who cares about the past?! What mattered was now!

“And tell everyone, I’m s-sorry Touka hurt the guild because of me...”

“Natsu don’t say that...”

“It’s true...” his breathing grows heavier, ragged.

“You couldn’t have known! Natsu stop it! Stop apologizing! No one blames you for this!” And they didn’t, it was nobody’s fault, no one saw this coming.

Blood trickles from the corner of his mouth, and red-tinged mucus drips from his nose. “I just.....” His hand slips from her cheek, too heavy to keep aloft. “..wish I had told you sooner... how much I love you... Lucy...” Too heavy to maintain any longer, Natsu’s eyes start rolling back.

Seeing him slipping away, Lucy begins to panic. He was too strong to let some witch stop him! He stopped dragons for heavens sakes! Why did it have to be like this! “No, no, d-don’t do this to me now!! Don’t talk like this is the end! Natsu I love you too! Do you hear me, Natsu! I love you!! Y-You can’t...”

“I’ll always love you Luce...” his voice fading away like the ending of a heartsong.

She pulls his body tightly against her chest, screaming his name over and over as the ugly tears flow unimpeded. He was gone! Her best friend! The love of her life! The man who’d shown her a whole new life and endless possibilities... viciously ripped from their world! Why were the Gods so cruel to her! She was tired of losing the ones that she loved the most! First her mom, her dad, and now Natsu!

All the pain and anger rush to the forefront. “You can’t leave me Natsu!! Forever remember! You promised me!!” She rests her cheek against his and squeezes her eyes shut. How was she supposed to carry on without him? “You promised me...”
