Summary

When Sonic Teo Holguin was young, he lost his parents in a fiery blaze, having to be raised by his Uncle instead. Growing up on tales of his father being a hero, he strives to be just like him, finally getting a taste of being one when he foiled Dr. Eggman’s plans alongside his friends! But, as time goes on, he finds out more and more about himself, his friends, his family, and even finding out more about his rival, who has a lot more…complexities then he first thought.

Also known as: two Sonic nerds (@eldritchtaur/@abyssal-ramblings and @forestdragon778/@forestdragonart ) do a full rewrite of the series, including what we like from Sonic canon, non-canon, and even fanon properties, and then try to make a workable story out of it.

Systemhood in the Phighting Universe

So, our thought process is that there are two pathways when it comes to how systems are handled by Inphernal biology. We’ll call them the “splinter” and the “shatter” routes.

The Splinter route is essentially where the system is essentially different versions of the same person but they all have different memories and roles. This, for us, is Subspace, Exorspace, and Cutiespace! They all share the exact same appearance and gear, and the only way to tell is via their fashion-choices and the shapes that their crystals form into.

The Shatter route is when the system are all different people, with their own memories, roles, everything essentially. This is Father Overseer and Fauxbrand. They share some features that are “baked in” (we’ll get to that) but their colors can change and their gears can be different from each other. Their switches a lot more obvious and disorientating.

However, for both routes, there are some things that cannot be changed from alter to alter. For one: horn shape cannot change. The horns that they have is what ALL of them have. For another: body condition. Any scarring or injuries inflicted upon one inphernal ripples into all of the others. And the final thing that cannot change is distinct markings. Anything that is specific to that inphernal (pupil shape, specific markings, ect.) cannot change when an alter switches. They can be covered up via makeup and what not, but they cannot be physically removed without being removed from the original alter.

Something that can be changed is body type, but more accurately the weight can "shift" rather than change (ex. Father Overseer is extremely top heavy [having large shoulders and chest] while Fauxbrand is extremely bottom heavy [having large hips and thighs]).

Some inphernal shatter systems (such as Father Overseer/Fauxbrand) can wield both gears at once, but it takes a lot of energy out of them and forces a switch into whoever was not wielding the gears at the same time.

And I think that’s everything? If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! We love yapping about this, but it takes a lot for us to like…think of what to talk about, to be honest.

also as a side note before we continue: they+ is the indicator of "the system as a whole" <3

Anyway *holds up the Egg Carton* they+ were always plural as far back as they+ remember. It was always Robotnik, Edmund (Eggman's name before Sonic's involvement), and Tinker (Mr. Tinker's name before they became an adult) and then sometime when Maria was taken to the ARC, Martin formed.

They+ always a connection with technology, with each one wanting to use it for different reasons: Edmund wanted to use it to further their+ reputation, Robotnik wanted to use it to progress scientifically, and Tinker wanted to use it to entertain the masses.

But after some...incidents in their family (as well as the loss of some close friends), Edmund's view still was on proving himself, but more in the energy of "I'll take over the world so no one can destroy me", and he becamse more or less the default fronter for the longest time, though he doesn't consider himself a "host".

Actually, for the longest time, they+ didn't even HAVE a system name. They+ didn't even know what roles were, let alone that you could name your system outside of what the body's name was.

It wasn't until Sonic found out about them+ being a system did Sonic joking call them "The Egg Carton" and they+ just kind of were like "yeah that might as well happen".

Because of Ivo being a system, there's a fun game we like to play called "who made what plan". For example: Eggman was responsible for their "debut" plan in Sonic Adventure, Robotnik was trying to archive information about their+ grandfather that lead to the events of Sonic Adventure 2, and Mr. Tinker wanted to run a fun little race so was responsible for Sonic R.

Uhhh there's probably a lot more I just need more "prompting" if that makes sense?? Like their+ relationship with Shadow, Maria, ect. (which we& DO have a lot of thoughts about but this is getting a bit long so jasodfpojs)

Thinks of the characters who we hit with the NPD beam in Phighting and how well they bounce off/contrast each other.

Like Subspace being proud and ready to defend himself and Blackrock in order to maintain his position of being a good scientist, at the detriment of seeing any sort of failure sending him into a crash.

Contrasting against Medkit, who has masked most of his NPD traits but lets it slip out around people who he trusts, like Sword, or under extreme duress, like meeting Subspace again.

Another set of contrasted NPD havers is Ban Hammer's inflated ego from the duo of being a Sword Descendant and being the Warden who does an amazing job, but it comes at the cost of feeling out of place by being a non-bladed direct Sword descendant as well as the expectation to live up to his mommas legacy.

Contrast that with Sword who has had a very good raising by Venomshank, who hasn't told him about the pressure of being a Sword descendant, but he still has a feeling that he's meant for something, which both leads to a feeling of extreme pride...and extreme anxiety, worrying about not making Venomshank.

Like just food for thought, I guess

It's sorta unclear; they+ theorize that it's they+ always had a split identity because they+ weren't allowed their+ own identity it HAD to be based on someone else. So TECHNICALLY its trauma but also more so being forced to figuratively and literally be multiple people at once as well as forcing down any sort of desires they+ had

Martin 100% formed via neglectful trauma though he's the only one who has a clear origin.

I wish some singlets knew the nuances that yes, some alters view each other as siblings, or friends, or whatever, but some also are romantic and y'all need to be NOT be weird about that fact

If i see one more person compare in-sys romantic relationships, fictional or otherwise, as selfcest and/or incest I AM GOING TO SCREAM
