Untitled warrior cats rant

I’m going to lose my shit if there’s another Moonpaw “sibling” because of her being a chimera
This is exactly what I didn’t want. Chimera cats happen when two embryos fuse together in the womb. We’re not about to say that an embryo counts as a living person. That’s along the same lines as the kind of shit that anti-abortion people say.
I don’t care that it’s a fantasy series. The implication is still there regardless.
StarClan was always morally gray (at best)
I’m honestly so sick and tired of people complaining about StarClan’s writing. More specifically, people acting as if it’s only in recent books that they’ve been doing questionable things.
May I remind you that there were cats up there who were genuinely okay with giving 9 lives to Tigerclaw (who is practically a cat version of Hitler)?
Or how about that StarClan refused to give Nightpelt 9 lives because Brokenstar was still alive, even though Brokenstar had been driven out by ShadowClan (yes, with ThunderClan’s help) and was very much not their leader anymore in the slightest? Or how they let SkyClan be driven away and did absolutely nothing to help?
Or that they let Ashfur in because “he just LoVeD tOo MuCh”?
I could go on about things like that all day, but how about their whole thing of refusing to interfere when it would be most helpful? Like, I totally get not holding the hands (er, paws) of living cats all the time. But if cats are suffering and dying, maybe do a little bit more than just send a vague omen that could mean literally anything?
This is not a new thing. StarClan has always been questionable. Even the main characters have been calling them out on their bullshit for years now. If anything, StarClan’s been getting better in some ways, like with how Yellowfang defended Squirrelflight and Leafpool during their trial in Squirrelflight’e Hope. Or how they actually let the warrior code change for the better at the end of The Broken Code. (Or how they seemingly brought Tawnypelt back to life at the end of The Elders’ Quest? Idk, the way that scene was written seemed to suggest that she genuinely died and then was brought back)
StarClan being this way, and everything that comes because of that, is one of the things that makes the series as compelling to me as it is.
I feel like people forget that Jaypaw was, yknow, correct in The Sight. He was a jerk, especially in his own head, but like. Firestar kinda WAS lumping all the disabled cats together and 'hoping a tree falls on them'. Brightheart had no reason to train Jaypaw other than their disabilities, and Firestar DID only assign her because of her eye.
All the other mentors have sense put into them- Nobody knew how violent Ashfur was back then, and he SEEMED like a calm, sensible cat with a slight gruff side, which wouldve been perfect for a ball of stubborn energy like Lionpaw- Hollypaw was behind, and Brackenfur complimented her thoughtful energy while also pushing her hard enough to keep up. And the thoughtfulness of mentors continues, with Foxpaw and Icepaw both getting good mentors- Squirrelflight is energetic and confident to match Foxpaw, and Whitewing has experience hunting with a pure white coat along with being calmer like Icepaw. Mentorship choices seemed to have a genuine level of thought of who would be best for that specific apprentice.
Brightheart though? Shes not a bad mentor, but shes a sensitive, quiet, blunt, thoughtful cat with ptsd. Nobody in their right MIND would pair her with a sharp, stubborn, easily upset Jaypaw- Unless you only paired them together because they were both disabled. And Firestar couldnt even do that right!!
Brightheart had to ADJUST to her injury, and it was a very traumatic part of her life she had to move past and learn to cope with, while Jaypaw was BORN BLIND. She constantly treats his blindness like it was something hard for him, like hers, when thats not what its like for him at all! She gives him 'blindness lessons' with longtail, ANOTHER CAT BORN SIGHTED and just repeating things he already knows. Hes a jerk to Brightheart, all the time, in his head and out loud. But i cant blame him for that when its Firestars fault for pairing them.
Their personalities clash, their disability experiences clash, literally everything about them makes for a horrible pairing. Brightheart wouldve been better for Hollypaw, or Icepaw, or literally anyone other than Jaypaw. And Brackenfur wouldve been GREAT for Jaypaw, he's patient, not easily offended, and has a rather paws-off teaching style, which wouldve been PERFECT. I firmly believe Jaypaw couldve at least been an OK warrior, and all of his warrior apprentice flaws are either because of Firestar's bad choice, Brightheart not listening about his own lived experience, or his own unrelated flaws. He didn't fall into the lake because hes blind, its because hes a stubborn bastard. He sucks at fighting, not because hes blind, but because hes never been taught. LEAFPOOL taught him fighting more than Brightheart did.
Vital Warriors Question
Now that Ivypool's Heart has been released, WHERE are my prologue and first three chapters of STAR?! I simply need these. 😊 The tension is driving me crazy. I'm eagerly anticipating devouring that book on November 5th, but for now, WHERE ARE MY CHAPTERS?! Been checking the official website several times a day.
god PLEASE can we get more on the dynamic between ashfur and lionblaze
because we KNOW ashfur was physically and probably verbally abusive towards Lionblaze. but he was his mentor. in this culture your mentor is someone to look up to, your guide, your role model, despite how they treat you (bc as we know wc is very bad at avoiding objectively toxic scenarios).
AND ON TOP OF THAT, Lionblaze's power is physical strength. he hurts people. that's his skill.
ashfur's carelessness to teach lionblaze proper morales, on top of physically lashing out on him, would absolutely result in him not understanding going too far violencewise, leading him to becoming even more violent and unreasonable since there was no one there to guide him.
but he would feel awful. ashfur telling him how he's weak and pathetic so he tries to make up for it by fighting harder only to hurt the people he cares about? yowch
lionblaze COULD HAVE BEEN INTERESTING GOD-
I think the most frustrating thing about reading warriors (specifically the most recent arc) is that NOBODY remembers ANYTHING.
oh spoiler warning for the starless clan arc (i'm not finished with it myself actually (finished river and sky and partially through shadow) but my thoughts so far)
Mothwing. You had an apprentice before Frostpaw. Do you not remember when you had Leafpool teach Willowshine how to speak with StarClan when you couldn't yourself? Why don't you try that again, not with Leafpool of course, but yknow, anybody???
RiverClan. This isnt the first time a clan hasn't had a leader. I know you're figuring it out now or whatever but like the medicine cat has ALWAYS picked the new leader and/or deputy. You are not the first clan to have this problem.
and i dont even wanna TALK about Berryheart, respectfully (not), fuck you.
the more i grew up, the more i hate warrior cats for butchering essentially every single one of their character with HORRIBLE writing. not to mention terrible plots and wasted potentials. and cultural appropriation...
if not for the fandom, warriors WOULD and SHOULD HAVE been dead long ago, most fans don't even consume the book as is anymore, they just live off AUs and ocs.
i resented warriors A LOT because growing up it was a great obsession of mine. part of my identity. then the series got so bad i forced myself to distance from it. in fact now that i think about it not one good thing came out of warriors except for people who got inspired to do art (like me! i started drawing because of warriors).
