I think for Rio he’s starting to understand Beth’s limits. Also, I think they’re both defining their roles and what it means to be in a partnership. Beth’s job is to make a good front for them to was their cash. She’s the pretty face, the one that makes you trust her, the one that has a small business she runs with her cheesy commercials.
Rio, on the other hand, is all muscle. He deals with the drug dealers, with the bad guys. He’s the one who deals with the underbelly of what they do.
In that moment, Rio was more suited to the task of hunting those guys down and getting the money back than Beth was.
Beth keeps the front going and moving the cars while Rio deals with any issues that may arise during that time.
I don’t know who’s going to do what to Dean, but he needs his comeuppance. It has been a long time coming, and he gets away with everything. I don’t know if ‘gets away’ is the right term, but there haven’t been very many consequences to his actions, even from season 1. Of course he was shot, but that was more of a power-play by Rio for Beth than strictly about Dean himself.
I just want Beth to look Dean in the eye and call him out for what he has done. And Dean is freaking out about Rio and the life Beth is leading, but he’s the reason she’s there. If he hadn’t been blowing their money on underwear for his mistress and dumping money into his crap business he doesn’t know how to run, Beth wouldn’t be having meetings with a gangbanger in her backyard at all hours of the day and night. But Dean’s one of those people who are never wrong and will only say they’re wrong to gain sympathy from someone.
If I was Beth, I’d be absolutely furious that he lost all the money, AGAIN. I just want her to have her kids back because that’s all she really cares about.
