It's the 27th! That means everything in my store that says 'sell by the 26th' gets tossed in the trash today 🙃🖕🏻and not I can't keep any of it, it's against the rules. We also have the break the packaging so no one goes through our trash and takes it to eat or sell. Didn’t snag any photos from the Asheville Food Waste Solutions summit yesterday but LOVED the keynote by @wastedfood who, in a funny, entertaining, yet serious and informative way reminded us that we could feed every hungry, food insecure person many times over with the sheer number of food that gets wasted from farms to processing to grocers to restaurants and of course in our homes. Food waste in our homes is an easy place to start. Be mindful of your choices and be creative with your leftovers! What you put in the garbage doesn’t just disappear in the landfill. Rice, seed and fruit smoothie anyone? Its way better than it sounds. When you think about it, rice has very little flavour but adds a kick of creaminess and fillingness when whizzed up. If I have extra rice or quinoa I'll throw them in a breakfast smoothie to add substance. It's actually delicious and uses leftovers that might otherwise go to waste. I think one of the things that can make people waste more is the idea that some things are only allowed to be eaten at certain times.
