what blew my mind about the maze runner is that it's not your typical hero-villain story; where the villain is selfish while the hero is selfless and tries to protect the world

because if you think about it: the hero, thomas, ultimately brought down wckd solely because of wanting to save minho - NOT because he wanted to save the world, but just his friend

whereas the villains, wckd and ava paige, WERE in fact working for the greater good, attempting to look for the cure to save humanity as a general and didn't care about a few people dying, as it wouldve been just collateral damage (had they been successful in developing the cure on a mass scale)

i lwk find that pretty neat

(pls recommend some more books that break this stereotype js like tmr 🙏)

one thing i wish the tmr movies addressed properly was how borderline creepy the higher ups at wckd were towards thomas and teresa. like randall was fucking terrifying, the crank put guy, the chancellor? although i did get a very weird vibe from janson in the elevator scene in tdc that i’ve never seen anyone else mention if anyone else felt that hmu. immediately.

and only kinda related but my god everyday i mourn what they could’ve done with ava paige in the movies. like why did they change her betraying thomas? they could’ve done so much more with her, she’s so interesting to me. like why is she doing this to someone that she sees as her son?

something i think people tend to forget about tmr is that WICKED is fully capable of coming back, but only in the books

in the movies, it's explicitly stated that the Last City is, as its name suggests, the very last city on earth. it gets bombed to absolute HELL. everything is burning, everyone is dying, nothing survives.

but in the books, this happens to Denver and WICKED's compound. Denver gets overrun, yes, but there's several more cities/communities in canada! theres most likely more in other northern countries, because it's also stated that WICKED is formed from the remaining countries' governments, and if it was only USA and canada left, they wouldve said so, instead of leaving the number of remaining countries unsaid.

because there's more countries, there's most likely more WICKED compounds, more Mazes, more Trials.

the one we see bombed in TDC is only one. they can't come back in the movies because theyre the only one. they can come back in the books because they have back up. more resources. they have helping hands guiding them back to their feet. only one section got destroyed, but theres at least one other somewhere

The entirety of 'The Maze Runner' series is just the trolley problem from the perspective of the people tied to the track and I fucking love it

WICKED's mindset is that it is as simple as pulling the lever and saving the majority whilst killing the few is completely justifiable. I kinda thought that in the trolley problem the 'right' answer was to pull the lever but I'm not so sure anymore.

I've been rereading + rewatching the series for perhaps the millionth time and I still... can't get over how stupid this organisation is. 🙈

It's especially egregious in the films. Like, you're telling me they never tested Thomas' super-special saviour blood — not even when they 'rescued' the Gladers at the end of the first film and literally 💥ran some tests on them💥?
