Day 29 - Future (Free Day)
He wrapped his arms around his son, holding him close. He remembered when his son was just a little thing, small enough to be held in one arm. It felt like only yesterday.
And now? Two decades later his son was grown. The world had changed. He couldn’t give back the years they had spent apart. The years that even though he had never wished for a child, that he wished he could’ve spent with his and not have had to fear for anyone’s safety.
That he and his beloved could have spent the time together in peace. That neither one was wanted by the empire. That the fear of what could happen if the enemies they had gained had learned of their son’s existence…
It had been better for his baby’s safety. Even as they both had wished otherwise. That they wouldn't miss all his firsts, that they would’ve been able to comfort him through all his nightmares and worries…
But they couldn’t, so they gave him to those who could.
He both did and didn’t regret it every moment since.
But now? Now as he rested his chin on the top of his son’s head between his ears, he could only look forward to the future. A future that he had never thought would come to pass.
One where his family, what little he had left, and that which it had grown into, could all be together at last.
