Idk if much can be done with this one but imagine diavlo who keeps seeing the reader before he dies. Like they keep trying to save him and fails each time and he slowly ends up falling for them since he's receiving kindness in the face of tragedy. Maybe he even ends up looking forward to seeing them again after each reset

♡ Angst/No Comfort ♡ Word Count - 2700 Warnings - Character death, Descriptions of death
The wind whips almost violently past his face as his chest heaves, tears dragging against sore skin as he turns quickly.
Trees.
Dark.
Cold.
His eyes scan erratically at his surroundings with a broken sob when he sees nothing, a thick forest twisting around him, the deep night coiling into his skin and darkening his vision.
The anxiety runs into his veins at the rustling of the leaves around him, his senses overloading when he turns again at the snap of a branch.
What is it?
Where?
Who?
Not again.
Please… Not again. Not again. Not again.
Please.
Not without you.
A howl splits the air around him from the shadows, the thrumming of his heart drowning out the sound of paws against the dry ground, a shaky exhale on bitten lips as he tries to force his eyes to focus through the tears blurring his gaze.
A deep growl to his left makes him flinch away before breaking into a run, a streak of fur and sharp teeth lunging at him from the blackness, narrowly missing as he stumbles towards the gap in the treeline.
Desperation like bile in his throat as he forces himself to move, adrenalin stinging his skin as the rain begins to fall, a small pleasure in between his dread woven whimpering.
There’s too many damn trees… He can hear them right behind him, the pounding of pads against the forest floor.
The huffing breaths from their drooling jaws.
The gnashing of teeth with every growling bark making his heart stutter in his chest.
Not again.
He can’t just give up. He can’t let them tear into his skin over and over.
He can’t die. Not yet.
He needs to live, just long enough to see you again. Then he can stop, then they can have him.
He knows they already do.
No one can outrun their fate, how long has it even been? Hours? Days? Weeks? He stopped counting after the pain settled into his skin like it deserved to be there. Perhaps it does, his sin runs too deep to believe he is worthy of more than this.
He stopped trying to condone the things he did after he started to fall for you, a small momentary kindness wrapped in his cruel retribution. Maybe this is all he truly deserves, the endless agony of running from a destiny that he knows is inescapable.
But you keep showing up.
Kind eyes as you hold him, a gentle sooth on your lips as he dies over and over in your arms, is this what his torture truly is?
To have love so close only to have it clawed from his grip again when his heartbeat splinters to a stop in your hands.
A scream is ripped from his throat when teeth drag into the skin of his calf, hard enough to tear into him but not enough to force him to a stop.
He won’t stop.
Forcing himself through the pain as he limps towards the light flickering through the trees, every step torturous as the crimson soaks into his clothing, shaking gasps on his lips as his tears fall faster than the rain can cool the anguish in his chest.
The light from the moon is almost a welcome sight as he steps onto the crunching gravel, moving quickly towards a clearing as the wolves break from the forest and slow, heckles raised as they stalk him low to the ground, starving. Rabid.
His eyes dart to the one closest as it lunges again, making him jerk back in a panicked stagger, foot stepping back onto the crumbling hillside.
His stomach drops in realization when he whips his head to look below him, the edge of the cliff cracking below his weight, loud sharp growling almost mocking as they wait for him to try to bolt.
He doesn’t get the chance to try to move past them and back to the forest when the rock shatters completely from below him, his breath tearing from him violently when he falls, jagged cliff-face ripping into his skin as he plummets towards the darkness below.
The pain is blinding as he hits the cold water, icy tendrils licking at him as his consciousness fades.
Maybe it was too much to believe he would see you again, perhaps it was a mercy that he dies without seeing you, you’re a kindness he doesn’t deserve.
One he never has.
He can’t see through the murk as he breaks the surface, rapids threatening to drag him below like a monster from the deep, why is he even fighting to survive? It’s only a matter of time before the next time he’s dragged towards his death, over and over. For eternity.
No…
That isn’t it.
“Come on… Don’t you dare die on me again. Please not again.”
Your voice is barely audible as you drag him onto the nearby sand, fingers faint against his pulse as you desperately try to keep him from fading.
His eyes are unfocused and blurring when they find yours, tears slipping down his scarred cheekbones as the agony curling into his skin. It’s you...
You found him again.
He can’t breathe, can’t speak. He can barely even see you.
But you’re here anyway.
“It’s going to be okay. I’m not leaving you, I promise... I’m sorry, I was too late… I’m so sorry.”
Your hands are gentle against his bruising skin as you cradle him to your chest, consciousness clawed from him as you cry into his salt licked hair.
He doesn’t know if you’re even real.
Perhaps this is your hell too, locked into an eternal battle of trying to save him but never knowing how.
The air is torment when he gasps in desperate breaths, body twitching in shock as his eyes flutter open.
His fingers are cold when they press against his chest, hands shaking as he cries into the cool night air, desperately trying to drag away the pain from his skin. Palm flat over his heart as he grounds himself with a pathetic sob on his lips, barely there warmth trickling over his chest as he weeps.
Your touch still lingers against his face from where you wiped his tears from his sore cheeks in between consoling words.
His eyes barely focus through his shaking as he frantically takes in his surroundings, sitting up quickly with a shuddering exhale. The clamour of the busy city streets deafening compared to the silence of the beach, cars streaking past him and making him flinch back as he scrambles to his feet.
Too many people.
Too many places.
Too much death.
It wasn’t the agony that he fears the most, not anymore. It wasn’t even where it was coming from, the terror of expectation that coils at his skin from every movement around him.
No.
It wasn’t even that.
It was the thought that he would die alone again.
Afraid and in agony as he bleeds out on whatever forsaken ground that Requiem chooses for him this time.
You’re the only thing he’s even fighting for, the desperation to see you, to feel you just once more before death takes him.
That familiar cold steel of the scythe's blade is already pressing against his neck when someone brushes past him with almost a growl on their lips.
He barely moves out of their path before they shove him with a huffing snap at him being in the centre of the street.
He doesn’t hold any anger to them anymore, it was violently snatched from his grip and replaced by the malevolent foreboding curling around his throat, constricting with every terrified pant that leaves his lips.
“Hey, watch it!”
The voice in his ear makes him whip around as a man forces him to move, hands barely stopping himself from falling as he steadies himself, shrinking as close to the nearby wall as he can make himself.
He looks small. Weak...
Pathetic.
The sound of cars braking violently has his hand covering his mouth with a muffled cry as he shakes in terror, breathing shuddering as he tries to stop the paranoia from taking hold. Not without you. You’ll be here, he knows you will.
You always come to him.
He can’t even run, legs refusing to move from the spot he trembles in, the cold brick sharp against his skin as he slips to the floor.
He doesn’t care that the jagged stone scratches into his back, not even when he feels his blood trickle down his spine. It’s nothing compared to the agony that he has to go through over and over.
He would do anything to make it stop.
Anything.
But maybe Giorno knows that already. Maybe he doesn’t care. He knows he can’t change fate, even if he tries to meld it himself.
The shattering sound of metal against glass makes him stumble to his feet as he darts away from the noise, panic settling into his stomach while he watches in horror as a car crashes into the opposite side of the road with a screech of rubber against asphalt.
Eyes wide as people bolt past him, every step making his heart pound in his chest as he tries to stay away from the reaper breathing against his neck.
Too slow.
He doesn't make his own fate.
The hand on his shoulder makes him recoil hard away from the callused skin, a panicked yelp on his lips before his chest hits the wall with a sickening slice of metal against flesh.
He barely feels the sharp pain as he yanks himself away, fingers curling around his throat as he gasps out around choked sobs.
He can’t stop the blood pouring from his throat, palm pressing hard over his carotid artery as the crimson seeps from the deep cut over his fingers, eyes blurring as he steps back in a haze.
Rapid heartbeat pounding in his chest with every drop it forces from him, pulse stuttering when he trips and lands against the cold floor as he bleeds out in the cold city street.
Alone.
His head lolls forwards with a shaky exhale, head aching as the confusion slips into him instead of the desperate need to see you.
You always show up anyway, what use is there to fight his death anymore. Maybe that’s all that he needs, to give up and let it take him from this cruel destiny.
He doesn’t get another second to spiral when his fingers fall, your own replacing them before he has chance to panic.
“Breathe, it’s going to be okay. I’m here… Why does this keep happening!? Why can’t I ever stop it?”
He can’t see you through his own tears, breath ragged as his voice dies in his throat, you sound exhausted. Devastation lacing your tone as you wrap your arm around his stomach to keep him against your chest.
You’re so warm...
He can barely feel your tears against his shoulder as you sob against his skin, his eyes fluttering as he tries to speak. To breathe. To live.
It's too late.
Broken gasps falling from him as your fingers desperately keep him alive, he doesn’t deserve this. He can’t deserve this.
You don’t get to know why. You never do.
You never get to even ask his name, always cursed to watch him slip from you in your blood stained hands, he barely forces his head back so he can look at you before he’s ripped from you all over again.
A small smile on his face when he finally meets your gaze, life draining from his eyes almost immediately.
At least he got to see you this time.
It could be worse.
He doesn’t open his eyes immediately, the faint sound of birds almost soothing as he keeps your face in his mind, a whimper in his throat remembering how devastated you looked to lose him again.
Just as much as he was to lose you.
The sun warms his skin gently, eyes fluttering open as he watches the birds dive through the air playfully, melodic songs breaking through the ache he feels against his throat.
He should have stopped to live just for just a little longer, who knew the sunlight could feel so comforting?
The clouds make faint wisping shapes above him as he stays still on the plush grass below, head resting back with a sigh.
Maybe in another life he wouldn’t have to lose you.
That he could spend his life with you.
Not his death.
“You know I never get your name…”
Your shaking voice startles him, jerking away from the sound like it burns, sitting up immediately and backing away as his eyes find you from where you sit on the grass a few feet away. A knife resting between your fingers.
“I can’t. Please don’t make me…”
He doesn’t say anything as he watches you sob weakly, body trembling as you refuse to meet his eyes, breathing heavily as you try to stop your distraught weeping.
“Diavolo.”
Your gaze barely slips on to him when he moves to sit on his knees, tears falling from his eyes as he realises that it’s you. He knows more than anyone that fate can’t be changed. It has to be you.
“My name… It’s Diavolo.”
His tone isn’t as cold as it once was, he barely even sounds like himself, voice raw from sobbing for hours. Exhaustion licking at him from dying over and over.
For a second he wonders if he should ask you who you are, deciding against it when you drop the knife into the flowers below you and cover your face as you cry into your palms.
There’s nothing that can stop your devastation, he knows that, fear flickering in his stomach as he stands to move towards you. He should run. You won’t chase him, he trusts you, even with his life placed neatly in your hands.
“I can’t kill you, this isn’t fair… I’ve been trying to save you!”
Your hands drop as you stare up at him, he doesn’t look afraid anymore, acceptance in his eyes as he watches your tear stained face as you try to stop the broken whimpers falling from your lips.
He should just run.
Run.
He inhales deeply as he sinks to his knees in front of you, picking the knife up in a shaking hand as your eyes flutter closed, shaking your head as your hair falls in front of your face.
Run.
He presses the knife into your palm with a shaky exhale, tears falling from his eyes as you stare down at the cold metal in your fingers.
His hand lingers against yours for a few seconds, the only sound filling the air is your fractured grief and the gentle birdsong around you both.
The wind drags across the soft grass in a caress as the flowers sway in the breeze, his eyes flickering down just for a second to admire them before looking back up at your tear stained face.
Run.
His fingers curl under your jaw to make you look at him, his eyes catching yours with a tired smile. Not happiness, nor amusement.
Surrender.
Stay.
“Find me again.”
He catches your hand again before you can drop the knife, fingers winding around yours as he presses the cold steel against his skin, a shake of your head as you try to pull your hand from his grip with a pitiful whine.
“I’ll stop this, no matter what it takes. I will.”
“No. Just… Promise me that you’ll look for me. Find me… Please.”
Your head falls weakly against his shoulder, tears dripping against his skin as he wraps his arm around your shoulder.
A sob catches in your throat realising he doesn’t want you to leave him.
That he would rather spend eternity dying by your side than living without you.
His head rests against yours while fatigue licks at him, a rare momentary rest as the sun dips behind the treeline, golden light caressing his back as he holds your hand still in his, fingers twitching slightly against your skin.
“I promise. I’ll find you, Diavolo... In every life.”
The sharp blade cutting through his skin makes his eyes flutter as he bites back a scream, he can’t make you feel worse for this, his fate forced into your delicate hands. You didn’t ask for this.
This isn’t your fault.
His fingers are soft as he entwines them with yours, slumping forwards slightly against you, voice tired in your ear as his mussed pink hair falls onto your shoulder.
“I'll love you. In every life.”
