Long Awaited Wish: Descent of Our Beloved Star (6)
Man it's been awhile. I really didn't know what to do for Liyue, and I think the second half of this is particularly bad, but at least it's done. We're getting close to the end ;)
Part 1, Prev, Next
Liyue. Finally Liyue. Life gets busy, but this event was surprisingly still running. Though… you can't help an odd feeling crawling down your neck when you think about the lack of acknowledgement surrounding this event. You haven't seen a single post about it, even now.
It's been awhile since your presence was felt shining down on them and the people and powers of Liyue were on the border of panic. Why haven't they been visited? Have they disappointed you? Or did one of the previous nations do so well that you didn't feel the need to continue?
Had you already made your choice?
But like the sun after a storm, you returned and their breath left their lips in relief. They still had a chance.
The Qixing was quick to greet you, an entourage awaiting you in the harbor. It was unusual for them, and in all honesty they'd originally planned on sending Ganyu or Keqing to request your presence in the Jade Chamber. That was no longer acceptable.
And so the Traveler, as always in the place of you, was walking side by side with Ningguang herself. There wasn't very far to go until everyone reached the place they sell the moon to reach the Jade Chamber, but it seemed they weren't going to let you out of their sight. At least for now.
It was evening so the festivities in the nation of geo wouldn't truly start until the next day. In the meantime, you were being treated to a gourmet meal with Ningguang.
She seemed to do everything with a careful precision, including eating. She took a bite and looked to you, the camera now positioned as it would be during a hangout. So that she was facing you. Not the Traveler. You.
Maybe it was risky to address you so directly, but it was a calculated risk. She could handle that. Times like this called for such a thing, after all.
"You've really been all over the place for these festivities, haven't you? I suppose you're used to that," she said, resting a hand atop the other at the edge of the table."Though even if that is 'your thing', it's good that you got a break."
You pause, brow furrowing. As far as you remember, the Traveler, storywise, had arrived in Liyue right after Inazuma's relaxation focused events. You're starting to feel even weirder about this whole thing. She wasn't talking about your break… was she?
Maybe the dialogue just changes if you don't check in for a certain amount of time. A bit like the not enough Stellar Reunion. Yeah, that's gotta be it.
"Now I've heard that you have access to some sort of adeptal realm. A 'serenitea pot', I believe? That must be convenient," she began. "A place to stay while you travel instead of sleeping out in the wilderness, a situation unbefitting of someone of your caliber."
She glanced around her own abode, hoping to guide your gaze with hers. "Though I wonder how you'd feel about something more… tangible and connected to the world. Somewhere to return to between travel." She casually gestured to the floating building they were in with her chopsticks. "It wouldn't be too much trouble to put something together, I'm sure. Nor would there be much issue constructing something according to your personal tastes. Perhaps something reminiscent of home." She smiled calmly. "Just a thought."
Ningguang took another bite. She was pushing it. She was well aware of that fact. But too much was at stake. This was a silent duel between nations. The idea of losing such an important victory and opportunity, especially to a nation that didn't know it was competing… that wasn't acceptable either.
This was for herself, she wouldn't deny that. But it was for the people of Liyue as well. And for you even, as far as she was concerned. Where better to care for you, to cherish the light of a star as it should be, than the wealthiest of the seven nations? Nowhere, certainly.
"I'll think about it," you tell her through the Traveler. It was an interesting proposal for sure. It was just rather unusual compared to hoyo's usual way of doing things. You suspect this is just another thing that the characters say but won't really change anything.
Your doubt in the sincerity of intent aches.
With that complete, you're allowed to rest in a guest room. They're really pampering you, huh?
You're greeted by a sweet dream mini game where you jumped from cloud to cloud collecting stars. At the end you used the stars to purchase a spaceship ride to a nation of your choice.
The next day is more of the same. Festivities. It only feels good because of the characters you particularly like. Other than that it's starting to blur.
You run around doing activities, putting together crafts, and talking to characters. It's like a star themed lantern rite.
A highlight though, is going to a teahouse. Zhongli is there because apparently that's how he spends half his time. He suggested you try some of the new tea the place was serving.
You had an enjoyable chat, though you can't help but notice a similar oddness from him as from Ningguang before. He suggested offhandedly that the Traveler, or more specifically you, spend some more time in Liyue or visit more often.
And when the main attraction, the reason you chose to go to the teahouse, began, your stomach twisted further in suspicious unease.
Yun Jin was there to perform, and it was beautiful as expected. There was a whole cutscene for her, and it was actually voiced like in the Jade Chamber rebuilding quest. Her voice was as captivating as ever, soft like the powder on her cheeks and climbing to a strong sharpness like the strumming of strings.
But this song was not about Shenhe's story. It was about you. At first it was vague enough to match the journey of any Traveler, but there were small moments. Mentions of your habits and your comments referenced. It wasn't explicitly about you, true. But it was far too personal. And she was singing of a dream the people shared with you, for you to remember them and for them to stay in your heart as you were in theirs. For you to stop by again sometime when you travel to worlds afar, both on the path of the Traveler and beyond.
They referred to the Traveler separately.
This is about you.
By the end of it, it was time to say goodbye. The retired archon sitting next to you took a sip of the tea he'd been monologuing about and said, "It was a pleasure talking to you today. I'm looking forward to seeing you again."
You leave leave Liyue unsure why you're still playing.
