Eveything about Matt

i have put everything the Wiki tells us about Matt into one because people are saying incorrect things about him. Also my own thoughts.

Matt is Mello's assistant and longtime friend who helps him with the Kira case. He is highly intelligent, known as the third smartest child at Wammy's House and the third successor to L. His specialty is technology, and he is tasked by Mello to monitor the activities of Misa, Mogi and Aizawa.

Matt is shown to have a dry sense of humor, asking, "Since when were the Japanese allowed to have such big guns?" while standing at gunpoint. He is confident, and his cockiness while monitoring multiple computer screens at once is what leads him to make a few mistakes.

Matt's hideout is shown to be littered with junk food and a box of cereal. Matt smokes cigarettes and is seen doing so even while driving. He enjoys and is often seen playing video games, and he dislikes going outside.

Obata says Matt is a "young man who loves gaming and doesn't really care much about the world."

Matt has brown hair and dark blue eyes. In the anime, he is seen wearing a red and black striped long-sleeved top, blue pants, brown boots, and white goggles with amber-tinted lenses. He wears black gloves that reach just below the elbow and at times, a cream-colored, sleeveless vest with fur trim. In the video game Death Note: Successor to L, Matt has blue-gray hair but otherwise looks the same, though his eyes are never visible.

While Matt helps Mello he follows Misa and observes her shopping with Mogi, then calls Mello with his cell phone. Matt describes Misa as "cute" and states that her age appears to be anywhere from fourteen to twenty years old.

Later on, Matt calls Mello again, having been watching Mogi and Aizawa via camera. He informs Mello that the two have come out of a building and are having what appears to be a serious conversation. Matt makes another phone call to Mello after having let his guard down and losing track of Misa and Mogi, who used a delivery truck as a disguise to sneak out of the building. Matt then follows Mello to Japan in their pursuit.

Let's look at Matt's skills compared to Mello.

We see that everybody except Near and L are 5 or above, which is why I would like to propose the thought that Matt acts similar to L and Near.

Because we see so little of him we know that he is cocky and wants to stay inside. Those might give him a loud personality, but L says he's childish. If L is childish and he still has that behavior, then Matt could also behave a similar way.

Most people depict him as being obsessed with cigarettes, I don't think that's necessarily true. He was in a foreign country, meeting up with someone he hasn't seen for five years, and working against a paranormal killer. Someone I know smokes during vacation, not regularly. Another person I know smokes during stressful environments. Matt was in both of these situations. In his manga panels and screen time, I think he only smoked 5 cigarettes that we are aware of. Only 5. I don't know how many days this was spread out between, but five cigarettes a day is considered light.

In my belief, Matt is a light smoker who does it during special events, like meeting up with someone you haven't seen for years to catch a serial killer. On top of that the person you haven't seen used to bully others and is now in the mafia.

I have also seen people saying he's a pedophile or lolicon because he called Misa cute. Though how did he call Misa cute? We don't know. It could've been, "Oh she's a cute girl I'd like to date her", "Oh, she's cute like a kid" he also believed she was 14-20, when she was 24.

So Matt believed she could be his age (19-20) but also believed she could be younger. This was also a singular manga panel, there's no follow up. It was an offhand comment. We don't know his tone of voice and saying it, we don't know what he's thinking. The only thing I can pull from that is that he's overly cocky.

The reason why that manga panel could imply he's cocky is because, he probably didn't even do research on her. She's a famous model. Her age is probably online. She's on magazines and in photoshoots and in acting. All he had to do was search it up, it was 2012-2013 during post timeskip, meaning Google and other search engines existed and were used.

Though a lot of what Matt's personality is like is up for interpretation, because he has like 18 panels and 2 minutes of screen time.
