Vaggie: (Telling more family stories) Talking to my mom is like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube; Like, I think I can figure it out, but it's going to take me a while. Like, I remember growing up, she just bust open my door once, looked at me, and went... "Where... is the grass fucker?" (The rest of the hotel crew laughs) I'm like, "I don't know what you're asking me! Where's the grass? And I'm the fucker? Or where's the 'grassfucker' as in one word? (The crew laughs again) "Do you mean the gardener? Are you calling the gardener that? 'Cos you should stop if you've been doing that." (The crew laughs again) She's like, "No, it's an item, it goes, 'rakatakatakataka!' Where is it?" ...The weed whacker? (The crew laughs again) Are you looking for the weed whacker? "Si." The neighbor has it. Why would I have it? I'm sixteen! I'm just trying to figure out if I'm gay or not *spoiler alert*. Why would I be messing with your gardening tools? "Okay, go get it." I guess I'll go get you the weed whacker.

When I got home from my run Hubby had fixed a weed trimmer for daughter. Her neighbour gave it to her, she got some use out of it before it spluttered to a halt. Hubby spent$8.95 on a new spool and fitted it for her so she should get some more life out of it yet. My post run garden wander found plenty in bloom.
this area on the land is the downhill side of a dam - there's a pond to the right here, and blackberries have grown completely over it because it's hard to do anything here
at first it seemed like an ok place for blackberries because they're delicious but it's steep and very difficult to harvest them there and then they grow through the fence and that little border next to the canal gets overgrown with blackberries too and i like having that as part of a cross county jogging path (it's ½ mile going all around the property)
so i usually mow them from above with the tractor mower deck - it's on the back of the tractor and i back the tractor to the edge and lower the deck and it mulches them
but while that removes volume and kinda sorta controls them i'm hoping that blasting them now at the end of the damp season they won't grow back as aggressively and theoretically if i do this again in a couple months i may be able to actually decrease them so it's less of an effort long term (assumes i do this somewhat regularly...); elimination either requires a lot of environmental toxins (herbicides which are not super effective on them - himalayan blackberry are very hard core - and i'm morally opposed regardless) or digging out the root which is physically taxing though i've managed to get rid of it in some areas completely that way
