Laurence reteaches Garroth to ride horses because he thinks the lessons he got were too clinical. Why teach someone how to ride a horse like you’d teach them to drive a car? One’s a friend and one’s a machine.

Horses still make Garroth pretty nervous so he puts him on the most docile one they have, a clydesdale Cadenza named Marigold. (Garroth almost evaporates when he first sees her. he didn’t know horses could be that big, he thought they were all like the same size because he’d only ever met thoroughbreds.)
