Synthesis of our chosen songs:
Peaceful man:
- References to peaceful protesters of the past – e.g. Te Whiti who pursued peaceful resistance to the confiscation of Maori land at Parihaka
- ‘A feather dream, of a fairer hand but no weaker man’ – passive resistance, pacifism, compassion and gentleness do not make one weak.
- Slow plucking of strings, melancholic, wistful, regretful
Te Oranga:
- Follows the journey of a person from birth to death
- ‘Mai I te taiohinga, Ka puta mai he pōhēhē, Hau ana te ha o Tawhiri’ (Along come the teenage years, along comes rebellion, the breath of Tawhirimatea changes). Tawhirimatea is the god of wind and weather - could be a representation of the changeable, volatile nature of man / humans?
Nature of Man:
- Examples of atrocities committed by man, corruption and brutality - the nature of man is inherently violent.
- Jungle drums, tribal, building tension and anger
- Chaotic, gritty, frantic cacophony of sound
Reverse Brief:
For this assignment, we are expected to select a total of three Warren Maxwell songs from the five we were shown. The Bats theatre is putting on a season of plays inspired by Warren Maxwell’s works, consisting of three plays each inspired by one of our three chosen songs. Our task is to create a name for this season (e.g. A Season of ____), as well as to create promotional posters, a website and a video / animation – all of which must display conceptual and visual continuity.
Koha Week 1.2
In today's class, we completed an exercise which involved listening to Warren Maxwell’s music and responding to it - either by doodling, or writing whatever came to mind. Most of my responses were written scenes I was imagining playing out with the music, emotions or messages I felt the music was conveying or references to specific art styles or aesthetics I felt would work well with each song.

Bus.png
As my reflection for this week/last week, I have chosen a google image search screenshot of buses, because we have decided that buses would be a good focus for us. Buses are a part of everyday life in cities and are a huge stress for a variety of reasons.
Bus schedules are often inaccurate and poorly designed
Buses are extremely expensive for students ($2.50 each way 5+ days a week = $25 or more (my food budget is $40 - $50))
You have to sit next to strangers who are smelly
Bus stops are often gross and uninspired (there are exceptions, such as the artist revival bus stops in Aro Valley)
Apps for bus schedules are buggy and poorly designed (MetLink widget for Android)
Week 2: Slow Going
Friday and Saturday I was attacked with illness and I spent Sunday and yesterday recovering. Today I feel almost at 100% so that means it’s time to train.
This week is the Assassin program. I’ll be doing a space edition of this!
Day 1: [yesterday. I took a high intensity nap.]
Day 2: HIIT/High Burn (Star Trek)
Day 3: Casual Training / 30+ min walk (I’ll be using my stair stepper machine for a minimum of 30 minutes)
Day 4: High Burn (Jedi)
Day 5: Strength (Power 18, 5lb weights)
Day 6: Casual Training / 30+ min walk (walk/jog for 30 mins)
Day 7: High Burn (I Aim to Misbehave)
I’m thinkjng about having someone (not my mom) pressure me into working out each day. At least for 30 mins, even if it’s just some soft yoga. I find it very hard to motivate myself.
