This last week, I’ve heard two different people in two very different circumstances make nazi commentary/reference out loud in public. I will never agree with the way the Israeli PM is treating the Palestinian community, but it still shocks me to see people make nazi commentary with no shame or as a joke in 2025.

I do not wish to get deep into the current conflict right now, since it is an issue that needs far more time for me to expand on that I have right now. But don’t believe for a second that there is no correlation between both events.

But these are comments coming from people in Chile, that even though it does have a big German community, it also has a big Jewish community, and it is strongly instilled in all fronts that anything related to the nazis is to be rejected and shameful.

Why would any one in their right mind use the nazi salute as a way to casually say “Yes Sir!” in a dance class? You can just be more theatrical if you want to be the center of attention, it would be appreciated after hours of practice.

Why raise your hand in the same fashion to refer to someone who is named a very common (yet old fashioned) name? There are at least 3 other more positive/relevant/funny figures to make reference to if you want to make people laugh regarding the poorly given name someone has lived with for 30+ years and was bullied for.

My parents believe this is pure ignorance, that those people just have no ability to empathizes. But it doesn’t sit right with me....
