The Weeping Peninsula Demigod
If you have no idea who I'm talking about, it's this guy:
Which, by the way, is actually a bastard child according to this spirit! Of course, this is only revealed to us in the Japanese version.
This bit of dialogue was the one that stumped me and my friend @katyspersonal and made us wonder all sorts of things about them...
No matter what we tried, nothing was fully satisfying in regard to this one Soulless Demigod. Every other member of the family found a spot soon enough, but we just couldn't slot him anywhere! After all, this child couldn't just be born when Godfrey was banished, since the Weeping Peninsula is full of his history, and the main fortification stores a cherished treasure of his exploits... but then, who could she have cheated on him with and why? It can't be JUST a nobody since she is God with a capital G! So who???
But after analyzing all of the Weeping Peninsula, I think the answer might have been simpler than we first believed. This Demigod bastard child is actually the son of Marika and Radagon, before either of their marriages fell apart. Here is why.
First of all, the Weeping Peninsula is inexplicably linked with Radagon. We have the Church of Pilgrimage, which bears a statue of him inside. This is relevant, as there are only three of them located in the entire game, one in Altus, and one where the First Liurnian War was fought.
Then we also have the imprisoned Hero of Zamor, who drops his Scarseal upon being defeated, which would imply he was the one who punished the old ally, and he did it on the Weeping Peninsula...
Most damning to me is the imprisonment of Sorceress Sellen, the Graven Witch and enemy of the Carian Royal Family... HIS family. Witchbane Ruins aren't found too far from the church AND the Evergaol with the Zamor warrior.
There is also Radagon's connection to the Misbegotten, though that one ended up being greatly muddied in the retail version of the game. Just keep in mind for now that his Golden Order Greatsword is in the hands of a Misbegotten Warrior and that Japanese internal names call the Misbegotten race "Children of Radagon", so this Demigod was going to have ownership of a lot of them at some point in development. While it can't be used as definitive proof, it sure works as supporting evidence with all the other overt references to Radagon we find around here...
Secondly, it's the motivation. Marika is God. Not just anyone gets to bang God, much less some random person. However, if it were, say, something she was interested in testing, like the effect of joining with her other half, perhaps she'd feel compelled to try.
This is especially relevant to the Tower of Return, which teleports you directly to Leyndell, directly where the teleporter to the Divine Tower of Malenia and Miquella is located, children of Marika and Radagon.
A very odd connection, unless there's something deeper.
Being born from them doesn't even mean they had to have been an Empyrean. There are several theories on who Messmer's other parent is, and while I personally believe he was some sort of karma-induced virgin birth resulting from trying to extinguish flame, many also think Radagon is his father... regardless of which option happened, he was not Empyrean at birth. Neither is Melina as far as we know, and she was probably born in a similar fashion (though she could have been born of Godfrey after Marika got GEQ-STDs too lol).
The twin prodigies were also "born of a single God" which almost makes it seem like they had more of an esoteric union when they conceived them, as opposed to normal sexual intercourse like they would have had with this one, back when they were still living separate lives for the good of the Erdtree empire.
It seems like the results didn't meet Marika's expectations, so she just had a bastard child for no reason now. She likely claimed ownership without sharing who the father was in order to avoid a nuclear-tier family drama with the Carians (unless he wasn't married to Rennala yet, which is possible; nothing contradicts this). This either means they took a lot more from her appearance-wise, or that she handwaved whatever red locks that might have come of it to be the same as what Messmer has going on and no one questioned it ahahah. Either way, this is why they were never reintegrated into the family as a "proper" part of Marika's lineage even after Radagon was her husband. Their little experience would have to stay secret.
While she all but verbally disowned the kid, it seems like Godfrey took them in and raised them as part of his bloodline. I am assuming they were in charge of Castle Morne, seeing as that's the one fortification on the peninsula, and it would be quite the honor for a child who is not the Elden Lord's to command such an important place for Godfrey and his legacy as champion.
Meanwhile, Radagon seems to have kept in touch from afar and likely favored the rascal despite Marika's own apprehension. I think the many Misbegotten in Leyndell (Crusader included) were a gift from the Demigod to him!
So basically, this explains the bastard's connections to Radagon and why they'd be intimate with the Golden Lineage too, and also why they'd be so distant with Marika herself.
In other words, they are Radagon and Godfrey's lovechild more than they are Marika and Radagon's, and I find it incredible lol
It just makes too much sense. You are told they are a bastard right next to a big-ass statue of Radagon that has no reason to be there otherwise, then you find his Scarseal, the imprisoned Sellen, and there's the Misbegotten connection... and yet, their home is intrinsically tied to Godfrey and his exploits, so they could never be fully divided from their warrior stepdad.
Finally, a satisfying answer for this... and it was so easy, too!

this might be my heavy obsession with Godrick, but wow going through the land I'm really picking up a lot of the stories around Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula, from freely roaming fields of trolls, Godrick forces guarding a trap chest that leads to Lydenell, and even Demi-Humans being contained in a lower area under watch via a ballistic. I absolutely love Godrick's region and how warm and adventurous it makes me feel as I explore and observe the surroundings
stunning clouds over Limgrave
it’s fun imagining fromsoft worlds industrializing because they would eventually have bourgeois magazines with articles like “top 10 beaches in the weeping peninsula!”
