i have a lot of feelings about war and the military complex and the tactics used to get people to serve but it’s difficult to express without sounding like i’m getting down on veterans and people currently serving. the thing is, my feelings about veterans are that they shouldn’t have to pay anything. the government should take full care of them. like work if you want, make extra money, live your life, but you should always be guaranteed safe housing, food, and medical care. forever. and the same should be true of families of people who die as a result of combat. in fact, i can’t understand why this isn’t already a thing. inb4 here’s why, I KNOW why it isn’t, but i don’t know how people are okay with it? i don’t know how it’s not just a given, or at least under discussion. it’s appalling. i don’t know why we ask these people to do these things and celebrate and laud them as the greatest heroes after putting them through hell but doing very little to make sure they’re okay. i don’t understand how people don’t find it vile that we ask for anything more from these people and their families when they’ve already offered up their lives. but then, i don’t get why my 81yo grandmother has to pay a cent for her prescriptions. i don’t get how anyone can be homeless and that’s deemed acceptable. i don’t get why people aren’t guaranteed a living wage. maybe i’m just stupid, idk.
