Chapter ∅ On a day like any other, the air seems heavy with anticipation. The smell of motor oil, the sound of heavy machinery and the sight of neon signs hanging off every surface, are all an inescapable, integral part of the city's atmosphere. But this, this lingering tension? This is something new.

The city itself seems as usual. The sky is a sprawling mass of moving lights, as more airborne vehicles than anybody could possibly count fly in every which direction, seeming from a distance like stars of a faraway galaxy. And in the middle; a perpetual supernova. The Lighthouse. A triumph of last century engineering, looming high above the rest of the city, guiding ships safely to harbour and letting them know that they are welcome, safe, looked after. What was once a lighthouse casting its beam across the Northern Sea, has since been transformed into an all seeing eye overlooking the entire city, the radio tower sitting atop it reaching even farther - the rusting necropolis of long abandoned shipyards, half buried in the impassable sands of the desert that now lies to the north, of little concern to it or its keepers.

Yet, far away from the prying gaze of The Lighthouse and the merchant ships unloading their cargo day in and day out, on the very outskirts of the city, lies the Phantom Port Ward. It is mess of ramshackle buildings, broken street lights, car parts and ghosts of people that have long since left in hopes of a brighter future. A port in but a name these days. And in one of its many unassuming streets a tiny old workshop that has certainly seen better days - and days it has seen many! Nested amongst the rest of the run down warehouses that keep it company, it stands out for one reason only - a weak glimmer of light shines through its windows. Illuminated by it, a group of people standing shoulder to shoulder. And between them, a blueprint.

i feel like einherjar is a must read for people who are deprived of steve angst. it does get a lil heavy (a lot heavy) with some of the subject matter because it does for once handle steve’s mental health before during and after the war while bucky goes in and out of his life for periods of time (mostly through cryo) but it’s overall a pretty good read even if i’m picky about some of the little things. the ending is happy. (71k words, 4 chapters)

i have to admit i’m a total sucker for good fairytale/fantasy aus so i rec chase this light to literally everyone. good aus to me are marked by the characterization remaining close to canon even when the situation is different and in this case healer steve and dragon bucky are perfect and i love them to death. 10/10. (58k words, 19 chapters)

this is possibly my favorite fic of all time because the plot is just so original even though it’s canonverse and the characterizations are GOOD but honeypot is amazing if you don’t mind the occasional sex scenes every couple chapters. i love russian bucky and dad bucky and this fic gave me all i could ever want of it. also 10/10, bonus points for including sub steve while still focusing mostly on the story. (133k words, 25 chapters)

also if you’re looking for a canonverse fic that will kick nec to the ground, my bestie’s fic series with romani bucky long is the road that leads me home is very good as i know they love steve and bucky very much and unlike some people don’t use slurs that don’t belong to them. (273k words)

and because i’m self centered i’m plugging my own multi chaptered fics aka my 116k long tangled au and my 80k 2011 steve/wakanda bucky time travel fic!
