When birds stare at you head on they either look like the goofiest things possible, or they look like they are contemplating just how to kill you.
In my experience, white eyed vireos--like this handsome female (sex confirmed via brood patch)--tend to fall in the latter category. They are feisty and always seem to fly into the net right as you’re about to catch one of your elusive study birds.
I can’t count how many times a WEVI has ruined a netting attempt for me..
Still, all in all, a very handsome bird.
